Sn Report: Lee's Future is Dim as Sox Eye Pitcher
Molto replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
we can't sign Colon and not Buehrle. if the Sox sign Colon, IF THEY WERE TO TRADE FOR HIM, and don't sign Buehrle, as HSC has said for a while now, he will walk the first chance he gets, or so I think. -
thanks ian, a threat doesn't mean favorite. also, there isn't one dominating team in the majors. the Twins were a pretty damn good team last year and could've just of easily won the WS. so this trade will make the sox favorites in their division and make them contenders for the world series, just like the Twins were last year after winning the AL Central. I get what you are saying though, but their isn't a clear WS favorite this year, not by a long shot.
-
also, it is a rumor, so no really truth to it, YET.
-
sorry for the mistakes. Colon will be making 8.25 mil in 2003 and had a 2.93 ERA. sorry about that.
-
they won't pick up both Lee's and Ritchie's salary. if we deal Wright, we'll have to throw in another minor leaguer. I don't know if I like this deal. I'm too big of a fan of Garland and I don't know if we will be able to sign Colon. IF we do, we BETTER sign Buehrle right after. If we give Colon 7-8 mil a year he'll be asking for and don't sign Buehrle, I will be pretty upset (which is unusual for me). Think about it this way. is it better to have Colon at 6 mil and get 18-20 wins for possibly one season. Or Garland at 500K for a couple years and get 15 wins and use that 5 mil elsewhere? I'm too high on Garland. if that deal were to happen, this is how things would look I suppose. LINEUP 2B-Vidro SS-Valentin DH-Thomas RF-Ordonez 1B-Konerko LF-Liefer 3B-Crede CF-Rowand C-Olivo/Barrett BENCH INF-Jimenez INF-Graffanino OF-FA (Palmiero?) ROTATION Buehrle Colon Wright Rauch Biddle we still need another arm.
-
I don't like that trade at all. I want Jimenez to play and I don't want to deal Garland.
-
yeah it is his last year. he'll make 9.5 mil guaranteed, plus incentives.
-
apu, that signature is funny as hell and oh so true.
-
I agree with you jas 100%. manuel has said a TON of things and has never lived up to them, but the whole Osuna and Marte will get opportunities is already known and was known. not like he said anything suprising there.
-
just because manuel says Marte and Osuna will get chances to close doesn't mean Koch will not be our closer. it simply means on occasion they will close, just like any other team. if Koch goes 4 game straight and throws a combined 6 innigns and the Sox have one run lead on day 5, you damn right Marte or Osuna are gonna be called upon. Manuel didn't say anything new, just facts.
-
Ritchie will be back next year.
-
on a side note, if it is a strong first rounder at SS or CF, NOBODY shoudl hate this deal, because then got a closer for three years, a solid lefty, and a CF and/or SS. I would then like the whole deal.
-
I'm going for Bynum or McCurdy. Bynum because he's a CF/SS, two positions we are weak at, and McCurdy cause he's a shortstop. those other guys serve us no purpose. possibly that catcher, but the A's are low on catchers. Before getting Johnson, they only had two set catchers between their AAA and big league team. when that is the case, you aren't gonna dump any.

oh, maybe it is the 20th. somewhere around there I guess.
-
there is no talk because the Sox have until the 18th. todays date was just for free agents. Ritchie isn't a free agent. just up for arbtration. if this was the date, than we'd hear about Buehrle and Koch also, as they are arbitration eligible.
-
but what about 2004? 2005? and even 2006? while Foulke could very well be on another team, since the A's don't have the money or rotation spot to give him, we will have Koch while the A's will have who? Valentine if he pans out. we will also have Koch who in my opion will get better as he goes along. I don't believe this is an awsome trade as many fans think, but I don't think we got beat by a long shot.
-
you mean he didn't? I could've swore he was just entered on the hall of fame ballot yesterday with Guerrier and Fogg.
-
Mendoza wouldn't be bad at all. see if he can start and if not, we'll then have a great bullpen with Koch, Marte, Osuna, Wunsch, Glover, and Mendoza.
-
I wouldn't mind Helling. he isn't great, but could be cheap and a good workhorse. I also think Ritchie will be effective this season. a lot of people are looking at waht he did in 2002 is what he'll do in 2003. he's much better and should prove it this season. I don't think we will get Daal, but Byrd could happen. pitchers are going fast though. three guys signed today in Moyer, Reynolds, and Traschel. a lot more signing will happen in the next week or so. we need to get a guy.
-
although I like this trade more than I hate it, I do somewhat agree with MM story. his points are well taken and I agree there are more important points on the team to fill. the one problem I had in the article was the whole Mark Johnson thing. NOT because I don't like Johnson, I think he can be a strong backup, BUT I don't agree that Olivo will need to spend extra time down in the minors. catcher is the one position I believe requires more learning at the major league level. his defense is already fine, and game calling and all that I believe is gained through major league experience. I don't think another year at the minor league level will help his game calling anymore. offensively it could help, but I think at this point, we can't be waiting on him. he's a talented ball player who should be up here learning. offensively I don't think he'll be great, because catchers have more of responsibility on defense in the early years, but he can't be any worse than Johnson or Paul. I actually wouldn't mind getting a veteran catcher though. to battle for the backup spot with Paul. they just have to make sure this catcher doesn't take time away from Olivo.

http://www.soxnet.net/snreport/374-12.6.html sorry for the late posting. this contract they signed is weird.
-
that is kinda why I'm looking at getting franks address. I've always had an interest in helping a hawks site or creating one.
-
I doubt he'll do that. Thomas will sign for 3-5 mil.
