  1. hey jas, not that i do anything productive around here, but can you give me my admin/moderator rights? thanks
  2. It isn't about numbers though. If a guy produces and contributes to wins, it doesn't make a difference what he does. He's a team player and a guy that brings a lot of intangibles.
  3. He was signed by the Red Sox back in Febuary and is in the minors.

    Holy Shit

I helped coach a little league baseball team this past season and it was quite sad seeing the mindset of little kids, and worse, the thinking of the other coaches. all a kid wants to do is throw the ball hard and throw a curve, and every damn coach in the league encourages it because they are complete morons. I'm not really a pitching guru, but I tried to stress to them accuracy and throwing strikes. Thing was kids are so brainwashed by so many jackass coaches and try for that blazing fastball and show no committment to being a PITCHER and building up leg strength, which is the most important thing. It was a shame because one kid actually blew out his arm. A 13-14 year old kid blew out his arm. What's is even more sad is the kids being overworked on the mound isn't even the worse thing in these little league's. Kids don't learn a thing it seems. The kids and the parents treat playoffs and stuff like it is their life. They do whatever it takes to win, when the point of little league baseball is to learn the game and have fun. the manager for our team was telling his players in one game to not swing toward the end of the game? why? because they were losing by a lot and the pitcher was the other teams best pitcher, so he wanted to wear him down so he can't pitch the following day. He then had his pitchers intentionally walking the other teams best hitter. I'm still disgusted by that. What does a kid learn if he's told to go to the mound, throw his hardest, and walk any kid who poses a threat? Or if he goes to the plate and make no effort at all to hit a good pitcher? NOTHING. sorry I went on a little thing here, this conversation just brought me on the topic.

    Radio

If you mean chisport, the first "official" show will be friday night. Mike and Guido will be doing a show at 6 pm ct. Then you can catch jason's show (at least as of now) on Saturday. I am not sure what time he will be going on though. I will be starting up my show in about two weeks or so. That dave willis thing is pretty interesting, however, the station won't be a play by play anymore, due to legal reasons. So it would all depend on who is doing a show late enough to catch post games and all that. that is a good idea however.

    Mark Buerhle

I never thought Buehrle would be a number. I always saw him as a reliever/end of the rotation guy. But then he started using all his pitches and showed his pitching ability.
  7. Boras goes for the pay day, because the bigger pay day his guy gets, the bigger one he gets. Him and Steinbrenner are terrible. Steinbrenner is willing to give impact player money to mediocre players, while Boras is asking for impact player money for mediocre players.
  8. The Sox offered 18-19 a year, but not many years and some clauses in it, or something like that, I know it wasn't 13 mil though.
  9. I agree with roman that many people fail because of the hype that is brought upon them. however, nobody should be considered anything until they prove it for a few years in the bigs.
  10. I don't think you would win with 9 rowands, but you need guys like rowand to win, just look at the Angels.
  11. I'm not sure why people are so down on AR. well, not down, but don't see him as a good player. he may not be the best defensive center fielder, but he works hard and knows his way around the OF. offensively, he's great, but he has good speed, good hustle and baserunning skills, and knows how to handle the bat. when he goes up there and is willing to bunt on his own accord, that tells me he's a team guy who can actually back it up with good, all-round fundamental play. I think he needs a full season where he starts before anyone can judge him. give him this season, about 140 games and 500 AB and then we can see what we got. I think he brings a lot of energy and brains to the team.

    baseball video games

I had All-Star baseball last year. I always used to have Triple Play, but it sucked for a couple years now. last year I had All-Star, which was pretty good and the year before I had MLB. hard to say, because anyone of them could suck this year.
  13. I don't think anyone who like CLee for 2003 is going by his number increase. unlike his most half successes, he matured greatly last season. Before, when lee was hot and cold, he was taking few pitches and/or swinging at many. He would rely on a big game here and there. Last season, he waited for his pitch more, took walks, faced 6-7 pitch at bats, he looked a lot better. I don't think he's goig to have a huge year, simply because he'll be batting 6 or so, but I also feel 2003 will be his year.

    Joe Valentine

I was iffy on the trade too, but we got a solid lefty starter for a solid righty closer. then we gave up a backup catcher for a power-hitting minor league OF. plus Koch till 2005 for Foulke who is a FA. also keep in mind that our strong point next season and for a few years will be in the pen, so Valentine going won't really hurt us outside of when we play the A's.
  15. umm, you are going soley by what KW said on the radio the otehr day, but it was also reported back in November taht the Sox offered him 3 yr and 10 mil and he rejected it. so a report in november and KW saying on the radio just a few weeks ago that they offered him Zito/Hudson money, although he never said the amount. I think the offer happened.
  16. umm, who said anything about hiring? anyone who is willing to work can work for us if they choose.
  17. though I think he's a decent GM, I wouldn't be at all upset if he is fired, simply to make sox fans happy. what is everyones thoughts on this? if KW were to get fired, who should the Sox hire as GM?
  18. I understand the whole divorce part and I know about money. and it could very well suck that she was there every game, but off the field stuff stays off the field. Thomas had a rought couple years, Clayton had nothing to do with.
  19. if it was Thomas' wife, yes, that is a problem; but ex-wife? they are fellow teammates/employees, not brothers, family, or best friends, why the hell should Thomas care? Thomas is a pretty sensitive if he does. Why would you care what your fellow teammate and EX-wife do?
  20. you don't like to read posts do you? first off, you are comparing JR to Steinbrenner, not 29 owners to Steinbrenner. second, paying a pitcher who is 31 (MAYBE) $8 mil a year for 4 years is stupid. just because the yankees win, doesn't mean all their moves are great. they win because they spend so much damn money that they are going to great players along the way. they've overpaid a lot of ballplayers. THIRD, JR has spent money. he spent money on Belle, spent money on Wells, traded for Ritchie which added salary. signed Konerko, signed Ordonez, signed Thomas. he's spent money. but of course, now you will say that when JR has spent money, he spent it in teh wrong places, you mean just like Steinbrenner did, right? personally, and I really don't care if you believe me or not, I wouldn't want an owner like Steinbrenner. (yeah, I know, you think I'm full of s***). I like baseball and respect baseball as a game. although I love the Sox and will always like them, I want the game to remain fair and on equal grounds. and isn't that I think Steinbrenner is wrong in spending money that MANY other owners have, but that he overpays guys by $2-3 million, thus raising the demands of players, which in turns hurts some teams in the league. I love the Sox, but I want the MLB to become competitive again and salaries to stay within reason.
  21. I'd assume Double-A. He'll probably start there, and pending his progress, MAY go to Charlotte. I bet they will keep him in Birmingham the full season, then start him off at Charlotte in 2004. I don't think they are going to rush him though, but rather take it slow, something I would be prefer.
  22. that is okay with me, even though I don't agree. I wouldn't want either guys and would take a few guys over both of them. BUT, I find it hard to believe Clayton caused Thomas' struggles. As far as Valentin. I have to say in all honesty, his throws never really scared me, even though he made some bad ones. It was his inability to catch a routine grounder, I just can't accept that.
  23. wow cubkilla, i didn't see that coming how does the Yankees spending money foolishly have anything to do with JR? I never knew baseball was a two team league.
  24. lol, this is sad. Not that they are spending money, but that they gave 15 million a season to two guys who have never played in the majors. just when you think the Yankees were going to settle down and watch how they spend, they do this.
  25. once again, not saying Clayton is this great guy. a clubhouse cancer, as much as a dickhead someone can be, CANNOT EFFECT AN ENTIRE CLUBHOUSE. if one guy is going to change the course of a clubhouse, you got a bunch of babies on the team. do you think they found out Clayton was messing with Thomas' Ex and all of htem said, "oh man, he's such an ass, let's play like crap the rest of the season, jsut to show him". Clayton was here for defense. and about his arm. would you rather have a pussy arm that will throw the ball where it is meant to go? or an arm like Valentin, who has no direction that you wonder whether he is really trying to throw to first.
