  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) I've never really understood why the midwest likes the Clinton's much either. Most of their core industries went downhill during his time in office, such as steel and automotive. I don't really blame American politicians for that although people do tend to credit and blame the president for things regardless. IMO that was just the Japanese industries beating American industries fair and square. They did what we were trying to do better than we were doing it.
  2. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) I'm very confused. Chicago seceded? When people ask where I'm originally from, I always, always say "Chicago." I never say Illinois. Ever. However, when people answer that question for me they say "He's from Illinois." And then I have to correct them. "No. I'm from Chicago."
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) Hillary Clitnon was caught conducting insider trading of cattle futures, but was not caught until the statute of limitations was up. The Clintons would not release their taxes from the late 70s/early 80. It wasnt until they were forced to release them that it was found. This is what I don't understand when her people claim she's been "fully vetted." Being fully vetted implies that you've checked out clean. If she had checked out clean, I would probably not have been so god damn anti-Hillary for the last few months, and I'd have no problems with her getting the nomination. It's kind of conveniently glossed over that there is plenty of dirt there, much worse than anything Obama has ever done or thought about doing, but the only reason it's not ever talked about is because it's old news and the media bringing it up wouldn't attract any attention. But could you imagine if Obama had said "screw 'em?" Or even Hillary saying it recently, for that matter.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) Funny analogy someone typed in a blog: Or the CPU opponent in Madden who is down by 3 TD's and a FG who runs the 2 minute drill every time they get the ball.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) I have a different answer. When you define big states as "Large states that Hillary Clinton has won", then you come up with a definition that fits that statement. If you define large states as states with large numbers of electoral votes, then that definition fails, because it then excludes quite a few states with >10 electoral votes that Obama has won, including Illinois, Virginia, Washington, Georgia, 1/2 of Texas. I'd be kind of stunned if Obama won GA in the general... that would mean basically the whole deep south can be considered "in play."
  6. Plus, the counter-argument to that counter-argument of Obama not getting Florida and Michigan is it's not 2 or 3 swing states that matter to Obama... it's honestly more like 10 or 12. (Although it is completely mind-boggling to me how so many people in Florida actually blame Obama for their whole voting fiasco when neither he nor Clinton had much to do with it.)
  7. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) Dye is lost tonight! No... I am not Dye. Good guess though
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) still, i think 8 points will stick. I'm so sick of this dem. race. word... May 6 will be the knockout blow. There's no possible way to spin that.
  9. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) If anything, the turning point is the Sox not scoring runs with runners on base (see Dye AB 2 innings ago) Swisher was a culprit too...
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) Odd seeing Swisher K looking. Happens to anyone. It just so happens that 70% of the time, the person doing it is Scott Podsednik.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) So what % does Clinton have to get in order for her to convince the DEM party she's still in the race? Like at least 15% I'd say, when you consider Obama's probably gonna win by double digits in NC.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Yeah, what you describe. Those have been around since what, the 70's energy crisis, they work pretty well, and I think its fairly silly that more people haven't used them over the past decade or so (that's where a government subsidy check would have worked really nice!) Isn't there a tax break available for things like that already?
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 08:56 AM) That's the key, right there - energy policy. There is good news and bad news. Good news: many things CAN be done about it, and a positive effect could be felt pretty quickly, if done right. Also good, all three candidates are saying its a priority. The bad news is, as you alude to, it seems unlikely that Congress and/or the next President will do it well. High gas prices are kind of a blessing in disguise, in a way. Americans sometimes need a good kick in the ass to get them to do something about an unfavorable situation. If we kept on having gas prices in the 1's, we'd never do anything about it. Now we have as good of a reason as any. It's kind of hard to ignore the guy in front of you when he keeps punching you in the face.
  14. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) Tripled the price of gas? I'm not an economist but I'm going to take a shot at this one and see how close I am. Not saying this is the main reason, but a contributing factor: US goes into debt (byproduct of a war, reasons for doing so irrelevant at this point) US borrows $$ from countries like China US needs to pay off loans, puts more money into circulation Currency devalues Inflation Cost of commodities goes up (throw in speculation into oil futures too) Gas prices skyrocket, with help of other factors
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) Every current, 1-hit wonder, mainstream rapper needs to be on this list. Rappers are getting worse and worse. Even the guy so many people hail as the best is terrible. Yes, I'm talking about Lil' Wayne. There are so many terrible rappers right now. Hurricane Chris, Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, J-Kwon, Chingy, Rich Boy, Mims, anyone in G-Unit or Cash Money... The best rappers that are currently semi-active are Jay-Z, Nas, Ludacris, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, T.I., and Eminem will always be one of the best. Andre 3000 is a really underrated rapper too. Lil Wayne's "A Millie" is probably the worst song I have ever heard, ever, regardless of genre.
  16. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) So was iguchi last year. Not sure I trust that noise. Bahaha I just looked up Jeter from last year for my own amusement (I know he is a below average SS) and he is next to last.
  17. Boston. Oh my god. Nobody else is this obnoxious. Specifically, it's all the Patriots "fans" who were barely even aware they had a team not named the Red Sox that played in Boston before 2001, but now are acting like they've been fans forever, and rubbing their success in everyone else's faces. Obviously, this doesn't count the real Boston fans who are like everyone else, but there's only like 418 of those guys.
  18. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) s***...you just f***ed everything up. When I was at the O's game last week I elbowed my (O's fan) friend in around the 5th, and I told him to look at the R-H-E. Yeah I shouldn't have done that because he blurts out "oh my, that looks like a NO-HITTER doesn't it?" And then that single off Crede's glove came the next inning a few mins later. Moral of the story: if opposing fans don't notice a no-hitter in progress, let them figure it out on their own.
  19. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) Im not sure who sand the Laffy Taffy but if theyre not on the list the list isnt valid. I'm not sure how Soulja Boy is not on that list... he is a prime suspect in the murder of hip-hop

    New York

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Head over there without any plans. I guarantee you will have an exciting day. Yeah this here. A better question that's easier to answer is what is there NOT to do in New York? Let's see, I'll make a list: Farming Drag racing Camping ...and I think that's about it.
  21. QUOTE (Soxy @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) I love that the article acted like $500 was nothing to spend on a birthday party. My birthday parties consisted of an ice-cream cake from Baskin Robbins and playing twister. And they were awesome. For my son's 1st birthday I took him to the ice cream shop around the corner from me, spent about 100 for them to have a party, and invited a bunch of friends and family. And he had a great time. No reason for me to spend any more than that... he's 1. He completely forgot about it all by the time he went to bed.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) The Financial Times just endorsed Obama. (Need to be registered to access their website so I didn't link it.) Couple this with Clinton being in the red and we see that Obama might be better at running the government. This long campaign is the closest that either one of them has been to running a business or government (granted it's not the same thing) and Obama has run a tight ship. It also helps that he gets fresh stacks of 100 dollar bills thrown at him every morning too.
  23. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 12:39 AM) And FYI, the war is not why gas has tripled. China and India increasing their demand and usage dramatically is the culprit there. The was has played a part, but minor compared to those two. China and India are pretty big parts of a lot of our problems right now... and there is basically nothing we can do about it atm. It sucks.
  24. QUOTE (CWSGuy406 @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 12:02 AM) He's looked pretty terrible so far but 200 bad at-bats isn't something to hang an argument on. This is the standard argument for anyone who doesn't like a prospect, for any reason.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) How is that relevant? The Sox outfield situation the past couple years has been absolutely brutal...you are talking about a team that had Scott Podsednik and Darin Erstad starting in LF and CF. I think taking a s*** in CF would have been an upgrade. This is the funniest post ever.
