  1. Again, I want Kotsay to be replaced at DH as soon as we can make that happen (as I know everyone does), but after tonight's efforts, glad to see him come through with that big hit.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Danks has had great command tonight! Huge pitch to Figgins there. With Stone Pony calling the double play - what new!
  3. I really do enjoy watching Omar flash his 43 year-old leather at third base. He really is something special, even at his age.
  4. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but we will have seen Andruw's 400th career home run this season; Pierre's 500th stolen base (forthcoming in the next week or so); and Vizquel's 400th career stolen base at some point this season (if he gets the playing time to make it happen).
  5. I'm actually officially feeling a little bit sorry for Kotsay after that one. I still want him replaced at DH post haste, but I do feel sorry for him.
  6. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) The whitesox need to invest more into their drafting as well as the international free agency period. That investment can pay off in future trade capital as well as to help shore up our major league ball club with talent. But that is only part of the puzzle. We need to a much better job of preparing our young players from the first day that they step into our organization to be a major league ball player. Every step on the way for a minor leaguer should be teaching fundamental baseball, and how to play it. Each level should have the same organizational philosophy so when a player arrives they know how to plug into the team and start playing. That, over any scouting, is why the Twins have a good approach with their minor leagues. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you mess up their preparation you will never get the full talent out of that player. We have rushed flawed hitters and pitchers through our system for years, either to showcase them for a future trade or because their physical talents could overcome any deficiencies. Only later do we find out that major league scouts can exploit any major hole. The one time I was completely head over heads livid with our lack of talent in the minor leagues was when Miguel Cabrera was available. Kenny would of traded the entire farm for him, however the farm was bare. Too many Josh Fields and Lance Broadways. If we spent a little more time on development, and maybe a bit more on the draft we may have had him. Now that guy is a game changer, and a building block. Thats a guy to get upset about. Not random X rental player. I would like to see the sox pick up a bat, because the Andruw Jones/Kotsay DH thing is sad. But in the same token. I dont want to sack half my team for a rental player. Sure if Miguel Cabrera is on the block, then sure. Wasn't the presence of Buddy Bell supposed to change the culture/development of our minor league players? I'm not saying he hasn't had an impact, but at the same time, has he?
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:43 PM) I will be less of a White Sox fan the day Kenny Williams is no longer the General Manager of the Chicago White Sox. I am so tired of this nonsense about farm teams. Look around, people. Look at who the best-rated farm systems have been in the last 5-10 years and then look at what they have actually produced. The once amazing systems of the Angels and Dodgers, loaded to the gils with player after player after player. And where has it got them? The Red Sox are a very unique organization, and I often hope that we will model ours after theirs. That being the case, there are not a whole lot of other organizations out there that I would want our FO to try and replicate. I truly enjoy your posts, all the time. This yet another example of a well-grounded yet wholly realistic analysis of the Sox' situation at hand. Well done - I'm a big fan!
  8. Ugh. I wish I had not just eaten lunch before I decided to read a thread where people, with complete evidence to the contrary, are still suggesting that Teahen is either a "mediocre" player or even worse, one that has the "ability" to be a better player than he's shown in his 5+ years of Major League service to date. I really don't understand what people base these assessments on. What part of that atrocious defense that he features, or all of those strikeouts he racks up, or that lack of power and speed, creates any confidence or hope in this guy. I just don't see it. If anything, at least for me, it's far more telling that I'm easily more willing to run a 43 year-old out to his supposed position every day than I am him.
  9. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Again, it's not 1 game, it's 3 straight games....against the Twins, after the all-star break.....not a good trend to be setting. And this is a marathon, not a race, which means that there are 159 other games that eventually get factored into the equation. So stop with "the sky is falling!" routine already. It's obnoxious.
  10. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) Truth hurts doesn't it? The old White Sox are back. Oh, I have no problem with the truth. The truth and I get along just fine. Now for this wacky claptrap your hacking up all of a sudden here, that's a whole other story. Meanwhile, the White Sox remain the first place White Sox, and it's onto Seattle. Go Sox!
  11. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) That's 3 losses in a row. That's called a losing streak. Get use to it folks, the real Chicago White Sox are back. They'll be 6 games out in 2 weeks. Season. Over. The worst post I have ever seen on this board. The worst.
  12. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) Major turn around for Alexei this year in the field. I remember most wanted him no where near SS. Maybe there was something to all that stuff about bringing in Omar to work with Alexei afterall.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Can Freddy get one more out? I guess he can!
  14. Way to bristle up and hunker down, Bobby! BIG time pitching there!
  15. Terrific at-bat for Juan, and a wonderful night for him overall as well.
  16. Putz' stats are really extraordinary.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) I don't think we can afford to resign him in the offseason. He will have too high a price tag. Surely he'd give us the hometown discount!
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) absolutely I ask this question not knowing the answer, but when was the last time Thornton appeared in the 6th inning?
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) Get Thornton up to face Mauer Do you really want Thornton facing Mauer in the 6th?
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) Time for a CQ homer And now just a solo blast.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Is it normal for a left fielder to throw the ball to a center fielder after the final out so the CFer can throw the ball back into the infield? Or is Pierre's arm just that weak? Lol - be nice!
  22. That was....weird. But I'll take it!
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) Especially since their bullpen has been faltering lately. That may just come into play tonight!
