  1. 4.5 games behind.....and falling! Twins lose!
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) A Juan Pierre triple...there's where his lack of arm really hurts you. That's not exactly fair. The ball got caught up in the corner which allowed the guy to reach third, not because of Juan's noodle of an arm.
  3. Does Hawk even have a home run call? I can't remember! : )
  4. Sigh....the Alexei, Kong, and CQ at-bats there were not very impressive. Geezus
  5. Yikes! Alexei is not our best bunter in these situations, but it has to be done!
  6. NOW, now, let's go and win this one for Gavin. I can't think of a better way to complete this sweep!
  7. AMEN, Brother! And now good speed aboard, tying run on 1st base!!!!!!
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) And he will ground out somewhere. More chance of that becoming a hit than a Kotsay K or Kotsay pop-out, which is my point.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Kotsay was on deck that inning. If it's going to be anybody in the 9th, I think it's got to be Pierre. His contact/slappy approach is probably more appropriate at this point than at any other.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) Ballgame. No it's not. Lilly is up to 97 pitches, we're only down by one run, and there are two innings left to go. Let's get to that Cubbie bullpen and then see how things work out from there.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 07:06 PM) HE GAWN. And HE GAVIN!
  12. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) Why the LaRussa talk? I haven't heard anything about him leaving St. Louis. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...bs-big-mac.html This article was posted back in February, and simply due to what LaRussa specifically mentioned about "leaving the field and going upstairs", along with wanting to "work for an owner that I like and that I respect as much as I do Jerry", well, it just seems to lend itself rather uniquely to a discussion about a possible replacement for Kenny, if in fact there were to be one.
  13. Earlier this year, Tony LaRussa gave an interview where he hinted that he might like to try his hand at something different in baseball, which included the role of general manager. He also indicated in that same interview that he loved Jerry Reinsdorf and would be open to the idea of working for him again. I think LaRussa re-upped with the Cardinals for just one year, and so with his contract expiring at the end of the season, coupled with the current mess the Sox find themselves in, I wonder if the timing might be right for the triumphant return of Mr. LaRussa to the South Side of Chicago, home of his first job in Major League Baseball, as the Sox' new GM (with Williams remaining in the organization in some other capacity).
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Fine. The Sox's offense this year is barely, barely below the relative offense output of the 2005 world series champs. They finished the season 9th in offense; we're 10th right now. Well then, appropriate for "Hawk Harrelson Night", to that I'd say "Don't tell me what you hit. Tell me when you hit it."
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Pre all-star, the Sox were 11th in the AL in Runs. Post all star, they were 13th. Compared even to just the 1st half offense last year...this year's sox offense is outhitting them. Feint praise, unfortunately.
  16. What is the statute of limitations for the statement "Relax....this is a good team......it's a long season"?
  17. I've been a big fan of the Hawk for each of these 25 years, so it's been really nice to hear people like the Wimperoo and Don Drysdale's widow call in and wish the Man of the Hour well. A bit of a walk down memory lane, you might say! : )
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) Really good play, the throw was perfect too from such a difficult position. Reminded me of Don Kessinger, who played short for both the Sox and the Cubs once upon a time. He made many a spectacular play in the whole at short very similar to the one Alexei just did. And more often than not, Kess found a way to get the guy out.
  19. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) Sounded like a retirement speech....as if we would get that lucky may that day never come! There! Much better!
