I don't think them winning the World Series next year has anything to do with trading for a replacement level player over signing an actual MLB player. Mazara was a non-tender candidate before we traded for him, and still is. Meanwhile, the obvious answer is still players that have put up much more WAR in 1 year than Mazaras career.

I just think based on matchups, injuries, rest, innings, RPs, score, Ricky...a platoon of Mazara/Engle are going to be in bad matchup a lot more than 10% of the time. Just too many variables in real life.

That's unrealistic because they aren't facing 100% positive match ups in real life. Also there is nothing in Mazaras metrics that prove he has improved in any meaningful way that weren't league wide. Engle had a run the last month of the season that boosted his low AB's which was most likely an outlier compared to his career #s.

?? Castellanos isn't improving? He hasn't had an OPS below 826 for 3 seasons. He was TRASH his first couple years. He ended this season with a 1000+ OPS in 50 games. This isn't the conversation to have when your team is on the verge to compete.

But that is not where we should be evaluating on a 2 year deal when we should be paying for (or trading for) above replacement level players when our window is open. I don't care what his true talent level is when he's 28, that will have nothing to do with the White Sox or this rebuild.

Ozuna has been an All-Star twice, and Castellanos put up over 1000 OPS with the Cubs after he got out of Comerica. Castellanos put up more WAR this year than Mazara has in 4 years. What the fuck are you even trying to argue? This isn't 2017.

That's not the point or the question I asked. The Sox aren't tanking any more and their window just opened. Castellanos was garbage his first year and has been worth 5.8 fWAR the last 2 years. We aren't in a position to fuck around with "untapped potential" vs actual MLB production.
