  1. Both are bad. But with no Machado, I’d rather have younger cheaper Palka getting all the at bats than watching 32 year old Alonso waste $9 million of the Sox money putting up 500+ at bats. There really is no point in wasting at bats on Alonso and Jay at this point when they could be development at bats for younger guys.
  2. It wouldn’t be and no one that has argued this point has explained why it would be premature. Even if you sign Arenado or Rendon next offseason, they will both be 29 at the beginning of the season. Both Harper and Machado will still be younger going forward. It’s just a weak argument to try to deny Hahn’s failure to land a top free agent after planning to do so for over a year.
  3. The problem is that the Sox front office still thinks just like Bob and that a combination of lesser players for $30 million is better than one stud player for $30 million. Meanwhile, Nova, Alonso, and Herrera combined for a 3.6 WAR last year and Machado put up 5.7. The Sox front office is as clueless as meatball Sox fan Bob.
  4. Just don’t read the comments section. Worst meatball Sox fan takes ever... ”BOB: I would much rather them get 3 ten million dollar players than 1 30 million dollar player.” Congrats Bob, you got your wish — Nova, Alonso, and Herrera over Machado. Enjoy.
  5. Heyman trying to squeeze a few extra million out of the Phillies for Boras. https://mobile.twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1098749489521836032
  6. Follow baseball much? Machado at 26 years old has a career .822 OPS, 4x All-Star, 2x Gold Glover, and a career WAR of 33.8. Harper at 26 years old has a career .900 OPS, Rookie of the Year, 6x All-Star, 2015 MVP, and a career WAR of 27.4. Harold Baines, Hall of Fame DH, has a career .820 OPS, 6x All-Star, zero Gold Gloves, and a career WAR of 38.7. Unless Machado and Harper both get hit by a bus tomorrow, they will both eventually be in the Hall of Fame. Also, while I agree with you on Grandal, Moustakas is not a very good player at all and I wouldn’t be excited about giving Pollock a 4 year deal at age 31.
  7. It’s truly mind blowing. Sure, Eloy could eventually be that guy but you already know Harper is that guy. Now imagine two franchise players on this team. I just don’t get it.
  8. Always be proud that a free agent let you offer him a guaranteed $50 million shy of his eventual contract.
  9. You’ll have that in a couple months and you can thank Hahn, Kenny, and JR for it in advance.
  10. Ultimately, none of this will matter when the Sox land neither player. Unfortunately, for Hahn and the rest of the clown show front office, there are no consolation prizes for runner-up in free agency... even if Hahn thinks that they should feel great because they “had a seat at the table.”
  11. Bingo, and this is why I would be shocked if the Sox didn’t try. But I expect a legitimate attempt at signing him, not a half-assed one.
  12. You typed three paragraphs to crap on two 26 year old future Hall of Famers. C’mon, man.
  13. And now you are acting like an “insider” but are not sharing the information. It’s the obscure manner that most of these so-called “insiders” release their information that makes most people dubious.
  14. That means little after what he traded him for. Dumping a washed-up starter for the #2 prospect in all of baseball pretty much absolves him of the initially poor signing IMHO. He turned the corpse of James Shields into gold.
  15. Eloy will be in LF/DH for a long while. Robert should fill CF as well. I just hope they don’t pass on Harper for RF using Basabe/Rutherford/Adolfo/Walker/Gonzalez as reasons for not going after Harper. Bring in The Show and use the other guys as trade bait.
  16. The interesting thing is that both guys were/are worth the money to the Sox for different reasons. Machado would have been a bit cheaper but fills the 3B hole and may be more valuable long-term due to his defense. Harper still brings a lot of statistical value to the Sox in another hole (RF) but what his star power and brand could bring to the Sox, along with Eloy, would pay for itself. I don’t get what the Sox are thinking if they aren’t willing to give Harper $350 guaranteed. The Sox ownership and front office would go from loathed to loved with one big signing and the fact that Harper is talking to Philly when he supposedly hates it there shows that he just wants the most money like every other free agent. Pay the man his money and he can hang out with his buddy Kris Bryant on off days. And the fans will come to see him and Eloy and buy a lot of merchandise.
  17. Yep, and Hahn is the only one to blame for that. He hyped up the possibility of landing one since flirting with trading for Machado last offseason.
  18. It’s funny how one big signing could completely turn around the fan approval rating for the front office and ownership. But it won’t be pretty for Hahn, Kenny, and JR, once Harper signs with the Phillies.
  19. Apparently, the Nationals tried to defer $100 million of their original $300 million dollar offer to Harper. https://www.mlb.com/news/bryce-harper-remains-in-phillies-plans
  20. Or maybe I’ll get to change it to AdamJones2Sox? That seems more accurate to Hahn’s free agent level.
  21. It’s pretty obvious that Preller has completely duped Hahn twice. I don’t see how someone couldn’t admit this. Preller robbed Hahn and the Sox of an established franchise player for money alone and another potential franchise player for the used up corpse of James Shields.
  22. I just heard the The Score sports update that the Nationals aren’t willing to offer Harper the same contract that Machado just signed now. They also repeated the Nightengale story that the Sox are out on Harper. I also heard the Giants were interested in Harper but only on a short term deal. Whiffing on Machado was bad enough but it would be inexcusable for the Sox to sit this one out when there is one team in the Phillies that are willing to spend on Harper.
  23. Jerry Reinsdorf is loyal to a fault. Jobs for life!
  24. Nope, it doesn’t. Smith is a clown whose career is based on yelling his stupid takes on things. His entire screaming argument in that video is that no one is worth a 10 year deal and that the Padres have sucked for a long time. Amazing take in the Machado signing.
