  1. I was there in April 2000 and I didn't see you ... what's up with that? That is at least two road games (the July 2001 or was it 2000 at Miller) that we have attended at the same time - I thought and still think those bas relief tigers looked like they were coughing up fur balls the April 2000 game I went to was the Saturday game, Eldred won 2-1, and that was the day I met Jim Parque, Sirotka, and PK I usually go once a season but can't decide about tomorrow then again I will be their Sunday for the Eminem concert and then road trip to Chicago and I get so damned tired of driving sometimes
  2. Comerica Park sucks should I go to the game tomorrow? I could... best day of my life was last August (or was it September) when I saw the Wolverines beat Washington and the Sox beat the Tigers on the very same day - the best feature of Comerica (and they do have wonderful large soft pretzels) are the bas reliefs of tigers with what are supposed to baseballs in their mouth but look like fur balls - no good parking at Comerica so maybe I won't go -
  3. I originally picked Crede but... ... I am changing that to PK since he is starting... since PK loves Detroit... as he is going for a 3 scores after the game, I think he'll get 3 hits at least in the game - he's up tonight (if you know what I mean )
  4. 1) Who will win the series (CHW/DET) (2 points)? CHW 2) Will Jon Garland give up a homerun (Y/N) (2 points)? N 3) How many errors will the Sox make (4 points)? 2 4) Which Sox infielder will have the most hits (4 points)? R Alomar 5) How many walks will Frank have in the series (5 points)? 2 6) What will Loaiza's ERA be after the series (I will give 0.1 either way) (5 points)? 2.4 7) How many saves will the Sox have (4 points)? 2 8) Will Frank Thomas make the All Star Team (Y/N) (2 points)? Y 9) Will Carl Everett have at least 5 hits in the series (Y/N) (2 points)? N 10) Will Jeremy Bonderman have 14 losses after this series (Y/N) (2 points)? Y TIEBREAKER: How many runners will the Sox strand as a team for the series? 15
  5. why would Mags want to play for the Padres? why would anyone want to play for the padres? was Mags swept off his feet by their wonderful road uniforms when they were at the Cell? does he hate our singing O-E-O that much?
  6. that is why republicans must always be put under oath before you attempt to believe a word they say
  7. you must have posted your next post while I was typing my response to the earlier one only Democrats allowed mistakes? Clinton was savagly ripped, and still is, for far lesser things than are happening now - that is part of the general political hypocrasy - that is the game - please don't try and pretend the big bad demos are so mean mean mean to the repubs - between the two I have a preferance but my point was - and I think the point of your second post - was be fair - yes the s*** goes both ways - and lets agree on that and move on because I don't really like at all fighting let alone fighting with you, good Sox fan and ok guy that you are
  8. my memory could be wrong on that - in my mind Veeck and the Allyns are both there on that one - so thanks -
  9. Clinton used force necessary to enforce the no fly zone. Clinton did not bomb Iraq. I suggest that you read the 30 June 2003 issue of the New Yorker which details the anger that is rising in the Army because of the politicalization of the army under Bush and Rumsfeld and how a lot of officers are leaving - in the ongoing atempt to politicize the military the new Armey chief is a man who enevr sderved a moment in the Army, he's a former Navy guy, every Amry general was passed over so that Bush could isntall a puppet in his place in the systematic attempt to politicize the military. Read the articvle - taht's why I gave you the date of the issue before you deny that is going on. And doubt still? Go to the MLB boards - Sat46, who is the polar opposite of me politically, is posting on the anger of a lot of military people with what Bush is doing. Now when Sat46 and I are saying the same thing...
  10. the answer to that, I believe, is 0. That was an attack launched to get bin Laden. Bush killed Canadian soldiers - or was that an error in combat - Bush killed that Afghan wedding party - or was that an error in combat - Bush killed that Iraqi family, 10 of the 12 chiuldren, who had nothing to do with Saddam - or was that an error in combat so either Bush is a Canadian soldier killer, or get the f*** off the Clinton bombed children in an attack on an aspirin factory., or the Chinese embassy thing, etc. Errors happen - one of the factors I weigh in assessing the futility and evil of war. But to throw s*** at Clinton for things that just happen, and have happened in the past two years - either be fair or be prepared. (And how the Republicans laughed at Clinton because the couple attempts to get bin laden failed. The chimp has had what, since September 11 2001, almost 2 years of non stop war, and has failed to get bin laden. So whose mocking who now? Whose zooming who? Of course Bush can't find weapons of mass destruction, the nuclear fuel rods he swore in the state of the Union address were there - or that was a forgery and the White House staff knew it but threw it in anyway - and he can't find Saddam Hussein. All the charges tossed at Clinton - what bulls***. By the standards dished, Bush is the biggest f***ing incompetent around.)
  11. mine is 48838 I'd suggest using several different zip codes since they use those for marketing research - the more zips they have on votes for Frank, the wider they will think the Frank Thomas fan base is! You could also use 48884 (the zip of my Sox loving grandson) and 49005 (where I am hoping to move back to).
  12. Enron changed names too - but who cares because no one was attached to that field and no one lies Enron. Some of you may not be aware the Veeck changed the name of the field. It has not ALWAYS been "Comiskey." Veeck changed to "Sox Park" or maybe "White Sox Park" or some such thing. You may on occasion notice that some fans of a certain age refer to it as "Sox Park." But the usage of "Comiskey" was so common and long established that the name change failed to pass the test of time and the name was officially changed back to Comiskey. Now it has changed again. It has nothing to do with the corporate thing. Wrigley is a corporate name after all. I have a friend who has "Mary Smith" in her private and professional life for many years and after she married my friend John Doe she stayed Mary Smith professionally. After all this time, I cannot ever think of her as Mary Doe - it is always Mr and Mrs John Doe and Mary Smith in everyone's mind. In fact, if anyone calls their house and asks for Mary Doe, they hang up because they know it is not someone who knows them and must be a telephone soliciter. Some names just stick. Some names stick. Because the US Cellular Field name is so long, "Comiskey" is still what trips off the tongue. Does anyone call it "U S Cellular Field"? I hear people call it USCF or the Cell or whatever... it will take time before the name becomes established in common usage. The best thing about the name change now from that vantage point is the All Star Game will get the name U S Cellular out there - which was undoubtedly the point. And 20 years from now they will be a bunch of hot new posters on this board who will be saying, "did you know that they used to call it Comiskey Park? Imagine that... how bizarre..."
  13. Steff, I love the way you said, in another thread, the way you were voting - you are beautiful! and doable...
  14. not to disagree with anyone here, especially people I like and admire a great deal... but... I believe they had the goods on Rose big time, very big time, which is why he agreed to the lifetime ban and on the advice of his well paid law team accepted the ban as the far and away least onerous penalty he would pay. His luck was that Bart Giamatti died because Giamatti wouldn't have let Rose run around with his whine baby act - and Rose would have been too chicken s*** to do it with Giamatti around. Remember that in the consent Rose signed legal admissions. Rose is guilty as all hell and he signed on to his admittance of guilt with a battery of lawyers at his side. Any lawyer would relish having gone to court to play the hero and get Rose off - that would be a guarenteed life time income after that. That all of his alwyers agreed that he foresake the courts and sign on to the ban - that is called plea bargaining, and they copped a plea outside of the legal system to avoid the legal system. Betting on baseball is the cardinal sin in base ball. Everyone here should know why and what the results of gambling and baseball to do to a team. Every clubhouse has signs posted about gambling. Every MLB employee knows the one rule that is beyond all other rules. Rose placed bets from the dugout. And - that was his place of work. The possibilities of corruption far exceed any one game in which a bet is made. And it undermines every confidence which we all have in the game. Betting on baseball by anyone in baseball cannot be allowed and must not to tolerated. Sosa, or Belle, or anyone, corking a bat is minor in comparison. It is wonderful that MLB has stuck by this ban for gambling despite the star status of the manager and player involved. Usually those with star status get off, or get lesser penalties, or overlooked. But then again, it also gets overlooked that Rose is a convicted felon. He has served his time for the crimes ofm which he was convicted, and get off easy on the betting on baseball thing - he is running all over making a ton of money marketing himself. His little booth at Cooperstown every year brings hiom more income in one day than some (most) of us will see in a year. He should live his life and be be well and prosperous. I also wish he and his apologists would shut the f*** up about how poor Petey was picked. He laid his bets on the table - let him play the hand that resulted, and let him play it like a man.
  15. so now everyone step up the voting - the boston fans are beating us - triple your efforts for Frank now - time is short
  16. I was complimenting you big time - I had the gist of the story but not the text nor link and couldn't find them - and you did - it is seldom that someone's search abilities exceed mine - so my heartiest congrats - and thanks for posting what I wanted to and couldn't find - you da man
  17. everyone knows that the best thing in Oelwein is not the football team but that incredible marching band - hell, even living here in Michigan I have heard of that awesome band, and heard that great band via the wonders of the internet - post some links to that for others to enjoy!
  18. I deleted my post which reported what you posted, since I didn't have the link to the text and you did - good job, congrats, I couldn't find the story on the mlb site, I defer to your genius
  19. please psycho don't - please
  20. it's nice to have a face to associate with a good friend and good person who I haven't met yet - its an ok enough picture - I assume the shirt is maize and reveals a secret love for Michigan
  21. I loved old Comiskey deeply but it was time to go - structural collapse was getting to be an issue - I love the location, it preserves the tradition, it is tradition to touch the old home plate, and the easy access via Dan Ryan or the el is a really great thing - maybe a south loop location would have had the same expressway/el access but no one was thinking of that then -
  22. Don't know. Make it you're sig. K. I'm damn sexy. is that really your picture?
  23. that's the funniest post you ever made!
  24. I don't recall that - I can remember it being more even that it is but not tilted the WS way - but the current imbalance is pure marketing for the north side and the decision to pull the Sox off free tv in the early 80s and go the cable route - as well as the 94 lock out cheerled by our owner -leaving the field open - and the Trib uses all its might of course - but winning will cure everything, if we ever win
  25. actually, I couldn't care less... a big I agree to your post
