  1. no one at the Cell questioned what was going to happen the entire 9th inning - everyone was on their feet - the scrubbie fans looking nervous and our fans just roaring - it was incredible - the only game simlar was the September 2000 game (Friday or Saturday before Labor Day as I recall) against Anaheim when we were down 8-3 in the 8th and won 9-8 - the crowd expected victory and almsot willed it to happen the best thing said about Sox fans today is hardly anyone left during the rain delay - even though we were trailing - the Cell was almost exactly as full when the game resumed as wehn it started - it was one of the best crowds in a long time, not just interms of size (I think 5th largest in history) but in spirit and attitude and support - it was great to be there and not have the negativity that sometimes gets on here - I never saw a crowd stay like that during a rain delay and I cannot describe the feeling when AR hit that homer - the upper deck was all on its feet for the entire 9th and it looked like the lower deck was too - just incredible atmosphere can't be described
  2. found out today she is 79 - she got here 1 hour before she was supposed to, all eager to go - we had a nice drive down, we got into the park and got our food and shopping down and were in our seats 1 hour before the first pitch - she was so involved in the game, talking with everyone around, she knwos baseball and keeps score better in her head than I do on with my socrecard - when the rain started she was very clear she had no intention of leaving and was one of the first back to our seats - and she was ecstatic over the results and by the time we got back here (I am staying at her son and daughter in law's home, friends from college) we had been together about 9-10 hours and she was going strong and still just so happy to have seen the game - it was great! if she had thanked me one more time for bringing her -- and she bought her grandson a "Cork" shirt
  3. good post - AR is a player and he is starting to roll - he may never hit 350 but that hit was huge and he's not in the HOF yet but give the guy credit - he plays all out and holds nothing back and I still think he can be a very valuable team member and more than adeqete center fielder he certainly was huge today - 2 down, 2 out - without him the 9th inning meant nothing - the thrill when he hit that ball and we realized it was going out - wow! It turned the tide - we were looking listless for a few innings there on offense and sudden;y what looked like a 6-4 defeat looked like a victory - after his homer the game suddenly not only looked winnable but inevitable, he turned it around with one swing - and thus in the 9th, the feeling for everyone - the scrub fans who went and stood in the entryways for a quick exit and the Sox fans standing and roaring all through the bottom of the 9th - it was so great to be there - it was not IF but WHEN we scored the winning run - if AR doesn't come through, it would all be very different - the Sox p[layers all were at the dugout rail when AR came round 3rd and I haven't seen that since 2000 - the post home run roar was deafening - and his team mates got all juiced by what he did - I haven't seen the team members be all at the dugout rail like that since maybe September 2000 and it was AR's homer that did it -
  4. the place was roaring "Paulie, Paulie" for his last at bat. Damn I wish he had gotten a hit - but I'm not ready to so totally disregard, cast off, and degrade a player who has given us alot over the past several seasons and I think the opinion of the majority of the fans at the game - based on what I heard at the Cell - was we are all pulling for PK and whatever he needs to get turned around will be great - but PK is still very much wanted - he has given us a lot, he doesn't derserve the total slams when he struggles
  5. no excuse for being at home when you could be at the game

he was 0-scrubs before his 9th inning at bat - he is now 1-scrubs and a great hit it was - we need production from all of the team and he supplied it, once today and I saw it and loved it to say the least but he is still an arrogant little asshole with a big mouth (in other words, a dumb f***) and when he produces consistently I will be open to revising that opinion which is not to say that I did love his at bat today
  7. I like your signature - I take it as a salute to Bo Schembechler
  8. I've waited years to be able to go - I missed 1983 (had confirmation camp that week) and this is my one shot - and I am taking it!
  9. I suspect they can be held huglely liable in a civil suit for consumer fraud. A corporation can not do whatever the hell it wants - hell, if I were drafted the federal civil suit (and I believe one has been filed or planned) I'd start with the century old Sherman anti-trust act and allege violations of that - while MLB has an exemption from anti-trust, the Trib corp does not and what they did with these tickets is akin to fraud if not outright, illegal, fraud. The arena though will probably be a civil, not criminal case.
  10. Marte was tired - and it was a risk worth taking since we had a little cushion thanks to the Mags rbi in the 8th. I don't think it was a bad move to leave Gordon in - certainly in our section of the dstands there was no greta desire to see Koch start the 9th and worth a shot to see if Gordon could close it out.
  11. ignore the JM bashers - they complain nwhen we win, they'll b**** when we win it all. Twice the Sox pitched - one intentionally, one semi - around Patterson to get to sam-me and it paid off both times big times, and it took great instincts and gyst by JM to do that. I was wondering during the game the first time if JM wasn't playing the hunches that sam-me would be the one to really pitch to since he is more prone to get the cubs out of the inning. (THe 2nd time, no doubt he weas trying to get to sam-me.) I listned to Ed & John and they were saying the same thing - JM was going after sam-me. Consider the psych pressure on an already distraught egotist - the strategy worked, and as the column pointed out today, JM has done this before - twice, in what, 1999 - and it has worked every time. It seems counter intuitive to pitvh around patterson to get to sam-me, but it was the perfect psych job on mr cork earplugs lack of steroids pressing buffoon. No one manager would prefer to pitch to sam-me but JM called it perfectly on Mr i am pressing and cannot hel striking out sam-me. So I salute JM!
  12. since I can't email a question during the game, this is my question: which S&R announcer is the biggest stud?
  13. need a category for "No, I won't watch because for the first time in my life for once I will finally f***ing be at the game and I've waited a life time for this!" I would have voted for that category!
  14. I don't care about KC. I don't care about the twinkies. We have lots of games left with both and 5.5 back in June means nothing more than we have to play our game and win our games and the rest will take care of itself. If with 6 games to go we are 5.5 back, I will will worry. But for now, the future is ours if we win our games.
  15. you have a way with words, RPS!
  16. this would be very correct information being posted
  17. be thinking of me when you all get together - I'll be in the usual spot today, Section 534 - and everyone else but HSC, this message is for you: tomorrow, Sunday, I have a date with HSC to go the game and you all don't! looking forward to tomorrow, HSC!
  18. in the section where I sat today, I am 3-0 against the cubs - the 2000 extra inning game, 2001 CLee homer, and today - all walk off games
  19. hey on Saturday I am taking a 70+ year old woman to the game - mother of life long friends - as long as she has her health she wants to see every Sox victory over the cubs - that must count for something! She called 5 times today to make sure of the time for tomrrow cuz she is so eager to go and psyched after today's game
  20. I did have fun chanting "sam-me" to the scrubs fans around me after his every K - of course I was louding calling "strike one" "strike two" "strike three" for his every at bat
  21. 2ks I emailed my saturday and sunday PTC picks on Friday before I left for Chicago - did you get them - hope so cuz not sure who I picked but I'll stand by the picks -
  22. it was ok ... just another ho hum Sox victory (damn I love going to the games...)
