  1. I can't believe we ever disagreed at all. Bt I suppose we have gotten all our disagreements out of the way for this decade because I always otherwise agree with you. And which one of us ever droned on about anything? You? me? No way! We simply speak the truth - it is all the others who drone on and on!
  2. I rather like that nickname! It is clever in so many derogatory ways that I am laughing as I type this!
  3. 1. Disagree. My reading shows that Jackson took money. These guys were banned because they conspired to throw the World Series and were on the take from gamblers. There does not need to be any other reason than that. (And Cubkilla, it is not what you you, it is when you hit it, and it is also how you play defense - being a step slow, the throw being a tad off and slow, etc. You know that these things cannot be "proved" now with all the participants dead. But the suspicions arose at the time by the people who saw the Sox suddenly play like bush leaguers and in a a few games suddenly turn it back on again. It was obvious to those who saw it.) 2. And this puts me in the odd position of disagreeing with you not only once, but also twice. Veeck may have been the most fun owner ever but it was hardly the best. In both of his tenures with the Sox he traded away our future and had all kinds of questionable trades. Call it being uncapitalized, call it being a riverboat gambler, call it having a very short attention span - his periods of ownership were (mercifully) brief, he always felt compelled to go on and do something different, but he left us depleted both times.
  4. agreed. but Comiskey was a scum too. that drama had many players.
  5. I hate no one! Although I am taking 50¢ side in his dispute with Jay-Z...
  6. I'm glad the park is not in your back yard! The traffic would be horrendous, no public transportation, and it would be horribly inconvenient for me, adding 1-2 hours on my travel time. Other than maybe the south Loop and back in 89 no one saw its resurgence, Comiskey is in the best place possible. And nothing in the suburbs should be called "Chicago." Schamumberg has its own team and it is minor league. And most of the worst moments are so 90s - what about the double header lost to KC in 67 - the deciding game of the 59 series - think back!
  7. No doubt that Jackson was the Thomas of his day but Thomas has done it for more years, only for us, and Thomas never took money to throw anything (no matter how much Jackson tried to re-do history later on).
  8. Rogers? Mr. Rogers? No, he is dead. Rogers Hornsby? No, he's dead too. Kenny Rogers? He is a rather old country singer. Oh, the other guy - please give a few hints in these threads, my friends! You know what you mean but I am too stupid to know unless you really spell it out for me with first and last names, situations, whatever. He and Boras can go f*** each other as far as I am concerned. I never liked him much and don't see what he has to offer anyone now. And he lost a lot of money by arrogance. Serves him right.
  9. Collins is the one you can make an argument for. Baines does not belong on that list, and Weaver and Jackson, 2 of the * Men Out? Give me a break. Fisk, I loved Fisk as a player, but no way is he the greatest Sox player ever. It is Frank.
  10. Thank you! That still leaves the mystery (to me) of Morgan - but at least I know who Brumbaugh is - how do you find this stuff? I am very impressed -
  11. 8 players throwing the series and causing us to lose what our heritage would have been had they not done what they did. Banning them from baseball was too soft on them. I am not necessarily a fan of JR, but when he bought the team he saved the Sox from possible relocation; he has 4 division championship s as an owener (including 94) and no Sox owner can claim 4 championships of anything iother than JR, and he just signed a deal extending the Sox's lease at Comiskey, guarentting the Sox stay in Chicago, through what, 2025? so he has assured us of no relocation fears after his death or whenever he ceases to own the team, and that is a damned, damned good thing and I love JR for that. I have torn into JR a few times (to say the least) in my life but no way should his ownership be a worst moment in Sox history. Try Art Allen who eventually depleted the team and almost moved them to Milwaukee before his brother John bought the Sox from him and kept them in Chicago - just as the Art Allen era was giving us the worst team in WS history, the 1970 Sox.
  12. I really dislike this poll - how f***ing biased can a poll be - and I think it is very disrespectful to the greatest White Sox player ever, and also way of whack with what the team needs in 2003. There are always a lot more options than what we were presented with here and really being a thinking fan means that you look at things as objectively as possible. When something is so biased it loses respect.
  13. I kind of assumed that, HSC, thanks - I think - are they any kind of prospect farmhands or just fill out the roster farmhands? Can they plow and shuck corn? Do they have any talents?
  14. Of course he is....do you doubt HSC? It is never wise to doubt HSC.
  15. not 83 Sox but the 84 Sox - which was a wasted season beginning to end which never fulfilled its potential because of the coke machine in the club house - oh, it's wasn't that coke and it wasn't a machine...
  16. he's ahead by 7 right now - anyone hasn't voted, get over there and vote!
  17. oh my friend, after a frantic day at the law office and then sititing four hours with a dying man and his children, grandchild, and greatchildren, considering I buried the man's wife and married and baptized most of the rest of those present, you can't imagine. We are waiting for Walt to die - he lay there gasping for air, he is 86, and for him, it is over, just a matter of when, but no matter how that is fixed in one's head it is never fixed in one's heart. After times like that I really need to get stupid with stuff like baseball and tattoos just to get an emotional and mental break - because today I go back over to the house for sitting with the family some more.
  18. I can't agree that a great moment is when a person dies, but I know whart you are saying. I also think that Jackson took the money or how else could he show it to Comiskey? Other than that, I concur whole heartedly with the rest of your thinking. There is no need to be defensive in that a whole of others here will agree with you as well. This is the place where educated Sox fans hang out! You are among your own people now - relax, enjoy, and welcome!
  19. email me your real life address and I'll mail you the four finalists - you know I have the current Sox logo on outer left ankle - the next goes on inner left ankle and considerations include color (how much, the current black logo tattoo is very understated, do i want to stay that way or do a spalsh of color) plus can they tattoo white and is the best contrast a logo that says Sox in some form or go with the visual sock in the diamond or perhaps my favorite but is it practical logo off the 1917 coats that one the posters uses as his avatar - that may be too much for an ankle, might be more of a rear shoudler thing, and if I do that there and get the second ankle one, am I becoming the illustrated man? I also like the early 80s batter with white sox underneather in red and blue but that might be more a forearm thing Of course Eminem has the Tigers D all down his right arm, maybe I should get a Sox with a big S and the o and x in the loops wrapped around my arm to show Em who the best team is - Step right up and see the history of White Sox tattoos all tattooed on the body of one crazed adult... now when I take the grandson out for the weekend, Mom says, when you broing him back, no tattoos, no earrings - as if I would have that done for my grandson without permission maybe she does know me, huh? (am I really a clergy person and a memeber of the Michigan State Bar and a grandfather? Aren't I supposed to act respectable?
  20. and why the f*** not? For the big $$$$ I pay to post here I expect perfection! So is the chat a big thing on these boards? Would be fun! The old old MLB boards were so fast that we could use that as a chat room, but last season it took me until the last week of September to fugure out that I needed to upgrade from Netscape 4.7 to get in the chat that was being used - are there any system requirements that we need to support the chat? I am on Netscape 7.0 now so I hope that will get me in -
  21. C Brumbaugh LF 1 0 0 0 who the hell is C Brumbaugh? and who is S Morgan RF 1 0 0 0????
  22. oh f*** tell me about it - the only thing that made today even remotely fun was, in going from work to the family I sat with this evening, stopping at the tattoo parlor and doing some preplanning on the next one - it is now narrowed down to four choices - I have 7 days to decide - something about the crush of the work day and the heaviness of the evening was lightened by narrowing down the choices of Sox logos to be imprinted on my body from 7 to 4 - what age do you think I grow up at? Give me baseball...
  23. you're right I was wrong, I was counting the intersquad game - been a long day and just came back from sitting with a family and the dying grandfather and all I could think of is we played yesterday and today - the fact that yesterday was an untersquad game escaped my mind - it is only game 1 of ST, nothing to worry about - is that better -
  24. its game 2 of ST - nothing to worry about
  25. welcome! Post often! Now what a baseball look like?
