So what do you say when Gen Norman Scharzkopf, former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. William Crowe, Gen Hugh Shelton, Gen John Shalikashvili. former Army undersecretary Joe Reeder, former Defebnse Secretaries William Perry and William Cohen, Maj General Charles Bolden, Merck, IBM, General Motors, Microsoft, Steelcase, Procter and Gamble, Intel, and Banc One, and I all agree? I think you say that if a group like that is all in agreement, they must be right because that is the most unusual coalition you ever see. And what do we agree on? And you better be damn careful before you of all people call those military people wrong --- we all agree that the University of Michigan policies need to be upheld by the Supreme Court. A lot of current generals, admirals, and other such currently serving also support the UM policy but could not sign the briefs filed with the court because of Bush's position - but they were ready to sign - so when the military and I agree, when corporate America and I agree - damn it we are right!!!!!!!!!!! Case closed!!!!!!!! Her is one link http://www.freep.com/news/mich/affirm18_20030218.htm not all the names are on it that I have just given you but if you want the links you know damn well that I can provide them. Wonder why the military and corporate America agree with Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown, Penn, U of Chicago, Duke, and 14,000 law students from 143 law schools all agree and have filed briefs to that effect? a) because we want to piss you off B) because everything follows the Bakke case which ended quotas but affirmed diversity as a educational goal c) because at the press conferance yesterday corporate America says they don't even want to consider anyone not educated in a system like Michigan's because someone educated without diversity is not educated and of no use to them in the real world d) because we are right!! Now as the generals and admirals and Bill Gates and I go walking off together, arms linked, singing Kum Ba Ya, we smile because we know you aren't telling Gen Norman Scharzkopf to his face that he is wrong!

I already have and already replied, you f***ing Notre Dame fan which proves you nothing about sports and why did I ever flatter you by the way what does this icon mean: I think it looks like a terrorist or a midwesterner on a very cold day

Sheeeeee-it, I have hanging on my wall a very expensive framing job containing Royce's autograph and pictures of him to remember the night and the game where I met him and I was Royce's biggest fan, ask anyone who sat near me and I wouldn't say what you said -- but wait until he leads Milwaukee past the Cubs a bunch of times - then everyone will love him - he will be beating the Cubs and not in a WS uniform!

I praised you in another thread and now I take it back. What is bulls***? Didn't I clearly say that disrespect for his team mates was a very live issue? That was my way of saying in English words that he did show disrespect for his team mates and that was a sure sign of it. Damn, does one have to explain everything with picture books for you? No wonder there are so many icons on this board! And when in doubt blame Royce avoids all kind of looking at our real and other problems.
-
you may be right too because what I see in the picture are Tigers in Tiger shorts and I can't match the earliest guesses with the bodies in the picture at all so maybe it was changed -

As a Michigan resident - I think you and Cerbaho have called this one all the way

RPS, how do you live with yourself being right all the time on baseball? I think you are right on with your last two posts.

Sorry Psycho, there is no purity anywhere. And our nation has a mixed and sometimes sordid history as do other countries. And nothing apu is saying is antiAmerican. He is freely discussing the issues of the day from a side that some people do not want to acknowledge. I think he is right 99% of the time and my son is a Marine and I consider myself a very well informed person because I deeply care about these issues. (Ask for about cars and I know s***...) That people have other opinions is fine, as long as they are informed and from a good conscience. But I for one resent the antiAmerican tag slapped on someone who dissents from the s*** the media pushes and government propaganda. Apu is thinking for himself. So, for example, is baggio, while they (and I and Baggio) are polar opposites on this. And I can respect everyone then and affirm both as proAmerican in the best sense of the term. SideshowApu, God bless you and

The sneakers incident was what, in August or September 2002? It had nothing to do with disrespect for the victims of September 11th, as you know. I recall the explanation as being he was toild he wasn;t going to play that day. I don't agree with what he did - how many times do I have to say I am glad he is gone - but it is unfair to accuse him of things that never happened and disrespect for the victims of 2001 never happened. Disrespect for his teammates is a whole other issue - South Dakota Boy, good catch on the stats. Without looking it up, I am sure he hit 9 in 2001 and if you say he hit 7 in 2002 that sounds very right. One month stats should never be used to judge a player or PK would be sent to the minors every year on June 1st after traditional dismal Mays. Clayton hit well enough - many of his team mates should have had his average in 2002 especially (including St. Jose). It is a 9 player team so when one is down, there are 8 other players who have to pick up. The horrid start in 2001 was due to many, many things, not Royce's fault, and his slow start in 2002 didn't hamper the team from having a good start through May 30th. I am tired of Clayton arguments. He is history, he is gone. He got dumped on by fans and the media very unfairly. And the worst thing about that is as someone goes on and on and on about the Blame Clayton thing, they are blind blind blind to the real problems that we had these past two years. What excites me right now by the way is an MTV focus on 50 Cent - I really like his stuff, great rap.

Without France, no United States, something to remember - whose navy do you think blocked in General Cornwallis so he had to surrender to Washington? Without France, no Statue of Liberty - they gave it to us. And I am very happy with France now, happier than I have ever been with them in my life.
-
The only thing more absurd than me being clergy is the idea of you becoming one
-
I honestly do not recall that at all and that is something I would remember. I think that is just piling on. But as well, Royce Clayton is also responsible for cancer, AIDS, drought in the Sahara, the Lindberg kidnapping, the War of 1812 and the Crimean War, as well as the Barbary Coast pirates and the Rape of the Lock.

there is nothing I can add to what SI has said - been there and know what you are talking about and if I ever lose this joib (or if my boss dies or retires) I will be up s*** creek right with you, with the age thing working against me - just keep trying out there - you feel like you beat your head against the wall but keep in there - and know that people are pulling for you -
-
if you are right on the over/under for Jose, that would be good - still too many, but we could probably live with that I have always had very mixed feelings on Ray - liked him more than many but less than others - I know he is one of your favs and don't totally understand your total high esteem but never liked people who tarshed him either - so I will retrack my statement about trading Ray now if he were still with us - is he going to play 2nd where he is at now (SF?). And who are your top 5 2nd basemen? I do so hope Harris can hit because his speed is great and I think he can be a very good infielder -

I think the Sox felt they had to act, Jose had made all those errors and then there was the flirtation wih ARod I think they felt they had to get a shortstop after all of that in the media. Whetehr they needed to or not was debatable. And as you say, we got what Texas didn't need but at least he came cheap enough trade wise - wasn't it $4 or $4.5 the first year, that was a lot of salary to take on but it seemed it was an act of desparation, they felt that they had to get a new shortstop and after ARod went out of the market they got the first available one.

check out who was a team leader in batting in September 2001 and compare his average for 2002 with the rest of the team including Valentin - his hitting was ok enough. We got rid of him because it just didn't work for whatever reasons and I am glad he is gone even though I was his fan - one of the rare few - whatever was going on with him and Frank's ex's and whatever else he needed t go but his batting was ok enough - many players on the 2002 Sox should have had as high a batting average as his.
-
I'd have no problem with that!
-
I understand that the Lakers indeed suck - one of the franchises I just really dislike year in and year out - but where are the Bulls going? No where? that's right
-
My friend, don't ever say that. I remember the days when it was said if our shortstop coulld just hit 240 but played stellar defense... and then along came Royce... who actually had a better batting year than Valentin last year, hit 260 for us, and did it mater? If our catcher hits 220 he will be a bum in the fans minds and I will think it is woefully inadequte. And 220 will only be improvement over MJ, not over Sandy and JP. I am following HSC on this, I think Olivo will be fine. If he is around 260 his first year, cool, but I want that average higher plus the stellar defense plus a good chemistry in the clubhouse player.

I love Mags, he is an alltime favorite of mine, but he has toi stop hitting into so many double plays. I hope he has been working on that in the off season. I still have to go with Frank. But they are both great hitters.
-
I was wondering who the other Atlanta vote was from - I agree - although when we get to the World Series, the opponent will be the least thing I am worried about - it will be the NL pennent winnr and that makes them good, and it will be the team we need to beat
-
Frank has always felt most comfortable at 3rd which is why he was there then and now

As CubKilla said, it matters to me - pride in everything we do means not playing in a schlock environment. As it is I worry about the black being painted on the upper deck underside reflecting heat in the summer - it gets hot enough up there as it is and if in the place of shade we have heat reflecting back on us, it will not be an improvement - but I will wait until it actually happens or doesn't happen before I start making a judgment on it - Green walls sound hideous to me and I hope that is not the plan. Pride in everything we do means not playing in a schlock environment. I have liked Comiskey aka USCF a lot and all the changes thus far have been fine, and everything that I have heard sounds fine, except for green walls. I can't watch the game if I am voimiting over extreme bad taste. :puke

He goes where ever he is going to go anyway after we don't resign him for the contract range that he will be in - I suggest we trade him now because after he makes 35-36 more errors at short and if he hits what he hit last year (less than Clayton and you can look it up) and given his age and contract range, he will have no trade value. We might get something for him now.
-
What about Rowland having a great year and Harris playing 2nd and Jimenez taking over at shortstop since St. Jose will be gone after the seaon anyway and I am getting too old to take the strain on my heart of seeing 35-36 errors at short on all kinds of routine plays...
