  1. always a good choice in author and you really should be at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago next fall trust me I am right on this not only where you should go to school because of your yet unrecognised vocation but very convenient to USCF
  2. some people hope to fill the world with silly love songs
  3. welcome to soxtalk - you live in Gettsyburg or go to college there? excellent analysis by the way
  4. I say yes. But I am always wrong about these things.
  5. what are you doing while you are watching the game?
  6. hopefully it is a new season for that... by which I mean, it won't be like past seasons... please
  7. then I am liking Gload more and more I am having a hard time remembering many (any) times in 01-02-03 when we gave up a late inning runa nd got it right back. A hallmark of the 2000 team was that usually when they gave up a run they got it right back.
  8. Under Illinois law can the Sox pitchers sue Jose for lack of support?
  9. I have had enough of StJosE6. More than enough. Knoblach had to sit when he got this way. So does Jose.
  10. Certainly has pleasantly surprised me
  11. No knock on Sandy at all, I didn't see the play and have no idea why he went for two, whether it was his or another's decision or this was legit - but this getting tossed out on the bases is happening too much there is a fine line between aggressive base running and stupidity we can't keep giving away 2-4 outs a game
  12. but I most definately do not want to go to a beer garden with a game going on I really don't want that at all I'd quit going if that is what happened to USCF and why imitate the north side? other than that the art of drinking and partying flourishes at USCF without being a beer garden (and some fine times happen in those regards) that only increases expense to go. But if USCF ever approaches the wrigley atmosphere I quit going
  13. there has been some excellent pbp in this thread! Thanks to you both!
  14. wtf is wrong with magnet days? it seems that dog day is an attraction for 250 people. What should be advertizsed is that at any of 82 home games you can bring your dog and board the dog at USCF for $3 which in my case costs me $6 to board both dogs as opposed to $52 ($13 a day for one dog, $15 for the other) two day boarding fees I'd have to pay at the cheapest good local kennel because it is an overnight trip. And there is a lot of good stuff at USCF like that. It always seems to cost me more to go anywhere else than to a game at USCF. It sure is cheaper there than Comerica.
  15. leave it to me to screw up a picture never call on me to do a photo i.d. in a trial! "Well, your honor it could have been Mags, I could have been Crede, it could have been anyone of 25 people I can think of off hand..." It is such a good picture it makes who's who irrelevant though. As I was saying in the deleted (by me because I am dumb as a stump in it) post the look on the batter's face is pure wonder, pure awe of baseball, it is baseball at its innocent best, the game we love. There is no ego, there is no hot dog there, just pure baseball. The contrast of foregroud and background which your journalistic eye caught is an incredible contrast. I love that picture. Thanks again for finding it.
  16. soxhead's version of events is correct - still looks mags-like to me even though I have been corrected -
  17. Somewhere in my files I have clips from newspapers going through the 80s and 90s of scrubs fans trashing their field. I have one posted in my office from 1999 where a father writes about never taking his kid to wrigley again after what he experienced. Don't let them lie to you - that cage was put in to keep trash off the field, that is why it is angled out. That cage was not put in for any other reason other then their fans trashing their own field since the 60s at least. As far as the cubs mental state - I was reading the Grand Rapids Press a few moments ago and it described Baker going ballastic over something he failed to do, make a double substitution properly. Today after Wood charged the ump he started thowing stuff from the dugout on the field. (Cub fans learn from their stars to trash the field.) That is total lack of self control. If they are going to blow up game after game they will be mentally and emotionally spent by the end of May and will be lucky to get 62 wins.
  18. What Dr. King said is reality. What is not reality is the concept that any particular act of violence commited now is going to be the first time ever that violence solved anything.
  19. Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. It is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. The old law of an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding; it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends by defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers. --Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. That statement is true for violence as a way of achieving any kind of justice.
  20. Your friend is totally absolutely 100% correct and right. I will try and burn a copy of the cd next week. Despite the "antiques" comment.
  21. see my prior post where I asked where we had seen that before, this is 1/2 the answer
  22. damn, can't anyone named Valentin play this game? although I suppose it wasn't his fault he had to pull his foot off the bag, that throw was wide (and where have we seen that before?)
