On the Score just now, a caller asked a Tribune staffer - David Haugh, I believe - when the Sox were going to get their due from the Trib. He said Sunday's Tribune is virtually a Soxfest. On the front page of the paper - not the Sports Section - John Kass, who is both a Sox season ticket holder and probably the paper's primary news columnist has a story. There is a two page story about Garland and his parents, and Haugh said the Sox coverage goes on and on. So now we know what it took - just play .750 ball into the middle of May, and the Trib will notice us.

I hope someone follows up on this, but the following appeared in today's Tribune: "Actually, the Sox were both lucky and good as they beat the Orioles 5-3...in a game that included the Sox surviving an umpires' postgame inspection of the height of the pitcher's mound." There was no further mention of this, and it did not appear at all in the Sun-Times, Southtown or Daily Herald. Maybe Farmer or Rooney will mention it tonight.

I got something in the mail. First thing you should know is it costs $300 per person.

For the first time since the Cub-Sox regular season series began in 1997, two local networks will broadcast the games. WGN-Ch 9 and Comcast Sports Net will carry the Friday and Sunday games. Fox will have Saturday's game. CSN will use the Cubs broadcasters Friday and Sox crew on Sunday, and WGN will reverse it. So no Cub-cast for us!!!!!

There's a day off on Thursday, but I'd guess Ozzie won't make any adjustments to the rotation, so it looks like Garcia, Contreras and El Duque. Beats the s*** out of guys like Wright and Diaz, imho.
-
El Duque ended our 3 game losing streak after the two Oakland and one Detroit loss, and now he ended a 2 game streak. Viva El Duque!

I don't think so. If we had a huge glaring weakness in the pen, then maybe you have to bite the bullet and make the trade, but just to shore things up a little, no I'd hang on to future. Now, if you conjure up a situation where Uribe breaks his leg and you can get a veteran sure handed replacement for him, then you might have to make the move. If you look at our roster, generally we have pretty good injury-forced replacements here already. Pods could take over Center, you can always find a serviceable corner outfielder, Willie sorta backs up Iguchi, eventually Frank backs up Konerko I hope, catcher's a little thin, but if Crede or Uribe go out for a long time, that would be a problem they would need to address.
-
So nobody thinks that Iguchi will benefit from a strong vote from Japan? I find that surprising.

The Royals don't qualify as an easy team?
-
Look, he's a good guy and all, but for Jamie Burke to be in high demand, there would have to be an explosion at the backup catchers convention.
-
I'm betting he plays. Remember, this is his city.

Singleton is a very classy guy. I had a friend with cancer who the Sox gave access to the field before a game. Singleton and Manuel sat with him in the dugout and prayed. It was pretty special. That aside, as I recall toward the end of his time with us he was a sucker for breaking balls, especially off speed, away. So I really didn't like the pitch selection by Freddy on that double by Chris. Looked like a slider in, and he roped it.
-
Who do you think will be our representatives on this year's team. Gotta figure Garland, most likely Buerhle too. Based on his play and with the bonus of Pacific Rim voting, I'm thinking Iguchi will give Roberts a run for his money too. Those would be my three.

Man Soo will be 47 this September. He played 16 years in Korea. According to the Sox media guide, he has 2 websites: www.leemansoo.co.kr and www.leemansoo.com. His hobbies include swimming, golf and tennis.

QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ May 8, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) Starting May 12th the Sox will play Balt(4games),Texas(6),Cubs(3),Angels(7), this will be a tough month.. If we can win about 13 games we will have a solid year.... How many games do you think the Sox will win Well, if they won 13 that would be a .650 clip, so do you really think that it's that tough a month? When we play at the top of our game, we've shown we are better than anyone. If we stay healthy, anything is possible. But let's win today, and then concentrate on Tampa Bay.

QUOTE(TLAK @ May 8, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) Dar-tanyon Sturtze Name the last White Sox MVP prior to Frank Thomas. Dick Allen. Who did we trade to get Dick Allen?

He was on their baseball show with George Offman from 9:00 to 9:30. I missed the first half, but I did hear Offman, noted Cub-jerk, say to KW "Kenny I get the sense that you know it's still early. Sure your club is 23 and 7, and you wouldn't want to trade places with Kansas City-" and Kenny interrupted, saying "With anyone!" Later Offman said "I want to ask you a question about your manager Ozzie Guillen and his mouth." Offman didn't actually ask any question, and after a few seconds of silence KW said "What about him?" Then he defended Ozzie, saying the media didn't report the circumstances of the Magglio rant, that Ozzie just responded to what reporters had brought to him. KW said he already has scouts looking at other clubs so that he's ready if he has to acquire anyone, he's satisfied with his infield depth as it is, the 3 injuries in the Oakland series made it look like the Sox were thinner than they actually are. He also said he's going to be more protective of his minor league talent this year than he has been in the past, because he sees some of the top guys down there as his foundation for several years to come. Jesse Rogers said the Sox should promote a contest where a fan could hang out at the bar with Ozzie. KW wasn't real keen on that idea. Did anyone hear the first half of the segment?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 8, 2005 -> 05:45 AM) I'm guessing (and hoping) that Ozzie throws the same lineup as yesterday out there today. I know Chacin is probably alot harder to hit than Lilly but yesterday's lineup seemed to do well against that lefty so may as well use them against another. But AJ will most likely be catching for Buehrle. They said in Saturday mornings newspapers that AJ probably would not start against Chacin either. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 8, 2005 -> 05:38 AM) Jimmy Piersall? DING DING DING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 8, 2005 -> 05:00 AM) Heh, Kenny Williams. What two players did we trade Brook Fordyce and 3 minor leaguers for in 2000? Harold Baines and Charles Johnson. This is real old. In 1959 the Sox clinched the pennant against the Cleveland Indians with a double play grounder, Aparicio stepping on second and throwing to first. Who was sliding into second base? HINT: He was a Sox announcer after his career ended.

1917. 100 wins, Clarence "Pants" Rowland. What White Sox rookie hit .281 with 11 homers and 50 RBI in 1987?

I thought the Karim made his name goofy enough. I had no idea he had the Gustavo working for him too. No wonder he goes by Karim.
