QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Personally, I think he's right to apologize for using the Nazis as a reference. The fact is that anyone who brings up the Nazis is doing so not because of that particular part of the Nazi behavior, but because of the war and the Holocaust. That is the only reason to bring up the Nazis in any political discussion today; to try to link the behavior of your opponent to the Holocaust because you believe that the Holocaust is so evil, any remote connection to it will immediately discredit your opponent. It's simply wrong, and it does in fact trivialize the Holocaust. If our President erects gas chambers at Gitmo and starts killing people without due process, then I'll start making that comparison myself. But otherwise, it's just not a good method of arguing. Personally, if I were to use a metaphor like Durbin, my choice would have been the Hanoi Hilton from the Vietnam conflict. In that mess, our soldiers were tortured without any due process or any protections from Geneva, exactly as we've done at Gitmo. I think that reference is a lot closer than the Nazi one anyway. I don't know anything about Durbin but those comments to me aren't insulting and I think he got pressured into a weak apology.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) Joel Schumacher to direct the sequels! Every movie Nolan has made, have been top notch film making. If there are others besides Memento, Insomnia, and Batman Begins, my bad. It's funny you say that. His first movie was Following and I just handed in a paper on it. Also a solid flick. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0154506/

great work

Any word on whether Nolan might direct a sequel? I haven't seen Begins yet so I probably shouldn't make a judgement but he's one of our great directors and I think I would want him to move onto a new subject matter.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 08:23 AM) Not as funny as I would've hoped. Cruise actually handled it pretty well, maybe because the cameras were there. He made that reporter look like an ass. True, if he was actually on speed he would have attacked!

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Oh wow. This is just insane. I know that most of the time I take the opposite stance of you, Kip, but no matter what "political stance" you have, this merry-go-round of trying to bring down governments with doctored letters and the like has to stop. And yes, that includes the government f'ups who do the same thing. Well lets be clear that at this point there is no telling if there was any agenda behind this memo being... I guess "recreated".

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) Well barring a HUGE choke down the final few holes, Michael Campbell will be the winner of the US Open. I'm happy to see him do this; I've seen him in many European events on the Golf Channel over the years. He seems like a really good guy and well-deserving. Tiger did try to make it interesting for most of the day though. However, it looks like he'll probably end up in second place. Yah I was very happy to see Campbell win today too. Plus his golf shirt was rockin' today! It definitely beat the Tiger red, which was way too busy looking today.
