QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) Can't watch the game today...I'd appreciate as many updates and observations as possible. I will say that this 7-8-9 in our lineup is terrible. Konerko some how scored from first on a double by Crede. I only saw on Gameday so I have no idea if it was a bad throw or what. Crede advanced to third on the throw home. Uribe then popped to short and Anderson grounded to third to end the inning. Sox 1-0 -

Predict the date the Sox get eliminated
Controlled Chaos replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) big difference between things being possible and things being highly unlikely. Can't remember the last time this team won five in a row. believe it has only won four straight once since the all-star break. unless we get real hot, real quick, we'll be watching world series DVDs in three weeks. Possibility is all I need. Winning back to back championships was also highly unlikely, but everyone here was/is rooting for one. That's part of being a fan. So unlikely or not, I'm rooting to win it all and the math says there's still a chance at that. It might be more fun for some, to predict the date the Sox are eliminated, but I'll choose to cheer for them to win every game. To each their own. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) #2 offense (runs scored) #4 in team batting average. They havn't been the top offense in baseball for quite awhile now. It's even more dire now. The #2 offense in runs scored and #4 batting avg a whopping .03 point back of first has absolutely no shot. It's over this team has Kalapsed!!

QUOTE(JiveDaddy3 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) I really think we still have a shot, the starting pitching was been very good lately. I think we can rattle off a 5-6 game winning streak here and be right back in it. As long as our bullpen doesn't pitch much! By next week we'll have a slight lead in the wild card. Gotta be optimistic! The starting pitching has been very solid, but it's foolish of you to think the top offense in baseball can turn it on. They suck and even with great pitching the season is over. I'm working on picking a date that it ends...this is so much fun...

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) And theres the rub ................... This team should be able to reel off 9-10 in a row. Problem is they HAVNT done it at all this season, so whats to expect them to suddenly do it in the last 2 weeks of the season? The SOX have had NUMEROUS opportunities to run away with this division, but they havnt. Of course, now watch them finish the year on a 9game winning streak and miss the playoffs ............. didnt you say the season was over like a month ago?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) They worked, but if he had been more conventional we'd have still won the games. Everything just went our way that October, nothing really could have stopped us, not even Ozzie and his crazy, unconventional, and at times stupid moves. That's my point. You don't know if we still would have won the games. All you or anyone can go by is what happened and we won the way Ozzie did it. Now you want to just chalk it up as oh everything went our way....Unbelievable Your point is lame. Ozzie had a great deal in winning us a world championship last year. By no means, do I think that gives him a pass this year, but give credit where it is due.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) Controlled Chaos, http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...54162&st=45 and later on the next page by the same guy http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...54162&st=60 another guy, same thread, later on: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...54162&st=90 The debate in that thread is appalling, cc. I could go on and find other examples, I'm sure. Oh yeah, and btw: Jerry Manuel could NOT have done that job. He'd be still standing on the mound in the 7th inning of game 2 of the ALCS waiting for Wunsch to somehow come in. I pretty much stayed out of that thread. Thanks for showing me the posts.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) Look, no matter what you say, there is no way in hell that the 2005 team wins the World Series without Ozzie Guillen. I don't care what kind of spin you want to put on this. >>> Back to the point. Ozzie Guillen's vision of rebuilding the White Sox was the reason the team was even put in a position to win the division last year. It was Ozzie Guillen who demanded that Kenny reconstruct the roster around what he wanted - with more speed at the top of the lineup. Sure, KW went along with it, and made the moves, but as I understand it, the impetus was from Ozzie. And even though Podsednik basically sucks now, he was the catalyst of last year's lineup and a true leadoff hitter is the reason why we were able to succeed with players like Carl Everett and a one-legged Frank Thomas DHing. It was that style of play that won. Not Carlos Lee and a bunch of right handed beefcakes taking batting practice. Love him or hate him now, Ozzie Guillen is the reason why we got Freddy Garcia to re-sign in Chicago. Without Freddy, we don't win the series last year. It was under Ozzie Guillen's managing that Garland was able to finally live up to his potential, something that Jerry Manuel was never able to have faith in. It was Ozzie Guillen who kept the team's motivation up. Whatever that means, you cannot deny that the team last year NEVER quit. There are several more reasons why Guillen was invaluable. Suddenly now, he's the worst manager to ever don a uniform and people are calling for his head. Yes, he has made some atrocious decisions this year. But to discount his impact last season is ludicrous. Absurdly ludicrous. He may not last even one more season in Chicago, but I will never, ever for a second believe anything else but that Ozzie Guillen was one of the most important reasons the White Sox ever won the World Series. Everything had to go right for us to pull that off. And that includes the manager being the manager. It honestly sickens me to read some of these posts. I haven't seen any comments on this site stating that about the Anaheim series. Actually, I can't remember any posts that even refute your points. Who has argued that Ozzie didn't help us get Freddy and that Freddy didn't help last year? Who has argued that Garland hasn't excelled under Guillen by letting him pitch through trouble. Who has argued that the team quit last year?? Who has discounted his impact last year? I agree with your points and I think pretty much everyone here does too. I like Ozzie...I have a few issues with some of his decisions, but none of them have to do with last year.

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) heres the team i drafted last night in a 10 tem league i waited until i had a filled a few bench spots before even grabbing a TE or DEF and took my K in the last round like always: INDY BEARS (0-0) SLOT PLAYER, TEAM POS QB Daunte Culpepper, Mia QB RB LaMont Jordan, Oak RB RB/WR Brian Westbrook, Phi RB RB/WR Thomas Jones, Chi RB WR Chris Chambers, Mia WR WR Anquan Boldin, Ari WR TE L.J. Smith, Phi TE D/ST Seahawks D/ST, Sea D/ST K Josh Brown, Sea K Bench Roy Williams, Det WR Bench Joseph Addai, Ind RB Bench DeAngelo Williams, Car RB Bench Matt Jones, Jac WR Bench Drew Brees, NO QB Bench Samkon Gado, GB RB Bench Antonio Bryant, SF WR IMO there's 4 TE's worth taking early. Gates, Gonzo, Shockey and Heap. When you're playing a team that has one of those 4 it helps to have one as well. When you're playing a team without one of the big dogs...those are just extra points in the bag. Now if the big dogs are gone....then I would wait till prolly 7th or 8th round before grabbing one. -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) Agree on this. With Westbrook already hurting, for example, an Eagles backup rb seems more useful than a guy like Wiggins. If the bye week comes and nothing's changed, you can drop him then for someone as good as Wiggins. But if Westbrook goes down, you could have something really useful. Or a Morency, in case Lundy falls flat. Go boom or bust instead of mediocre bye weekers. You guys convinced me. I have always liked to grab my complete team on draft day. That includes players for the bye weeks, but I think I might have to change it up. What you guys are saying makes sense, especially since I like to find that diamond of the draft that nobody else likes. -

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) dont know why you have two TEs and Ks, also chris perry is on the PUP so that was a wasted early pick but overall not too bad it is hard to comment without knowing who was available in the later rounds when you took some of these guys as well I have two TE's and two kickers cause there are bye weeks and you need backups. Chris Perry was named to the PUP after our draft, but 106 isn't really an early pick. At that point all the RB's left are backups. Either way, I'm weighing dropping him and getting Stephen Davis who was just put on waivers. Here's how the whole draft went.... Round 1 1 S. Alexander 2 L. Johnson 3 L. Tomlinson 4 T. Barber 5 E.
