  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) Some players need the regular ABs. What makes you believe the rest will help? Plus, I'm not certain resting him that much is good for the pitching staff. I seem to be the only one that thinking AJ on the bench for a bunch of games is not a plus for the team. ahem
  2. I want AJ behind the dish for 125 -135 games. .302 12 dongs 76 steaks
  3. At 14 years old, I think I would have just used my own joystick and started playing.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) lol, my commish screwed up and put our actual super bowl in week 17. LT is the cornerstone to my team, so I NEED Balt to win so the Bolts are going for home field. (It was a legit screw up by my commish, the guy is a hardcore fantasy guy, and we switched sites at the last minute and it happed.) My lineup for my actual Super Bowl team: Vince Young (Stellar mid-season pickup for me!) LT DeShaun Foster Andre Johnson Mark Clayton Shockey or D.J. Hackett Shayne Graham Dallas D with your list I agree mostly, except Dayne... I would go Stephan Jackson, somehow I absorbed his 50 points against me last week I been kicking myself over Steven Jackson. Minny is the top run defense in the league. So I think the Rams will be passing a bunch. Dayne is a toal crap shoot. I might chicken out and pull him by game time. Most everybody has LT and LJ as their backs. So basically I'm picking Dayne to have a better game then LJ. uggh sketchy..... The good thing for you is Ravens Chargers game is at the same time now. They both will be playing to win. I think originally Balt was early game.
  5. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Thought most leagues ended last week, but your roster looks similar to one of mine, minus Dayne. It's a Probowl we're doing. Everyone can pick any player they want for week 17. Best overall team wins. We all pitched in an extra 5.00 at the start of the year for this. $60 goes to the winner.
  6. If you can start any QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, K, DEF this week, who would it be. Take into consideration players getting rested or not having anything to play for or whatever. Here's mine, but man I keep swithcing things in my head. Dayne has been strong lately and going against a weak Cleveland Defense, but Im not sure if I should play him over a stud like Larry Johnson. LT who knows how much playing time he will get, but I think he's worth it anyway. I think the Rams will score at will against the Vikes. They are way banged up inthe secondary. Mark Bulger LaDanian Tomlinson Ron Dayne Terrell Owens Torry Holt Antonio Gates Nate Kaeding Baltimore Ravens Defense
  7. (I thought Id make all of mine Sox related.) I lived in the building where Jimbo's is. My grandpa owned the building and the bar in the 50's-60's and my dad owned the bar in the 70's. We lived in one of the apartments upstairs. I missed opening day last year for the first time in 17 years, due to the death of said grandfather. Born in 1917, White Sox Championships were bookends to his life. My first time in Comiskey Park was not for a game. My dad snuck my friend and I in to run around on the field. My first driving lesson was in the parking lot of Comiskey. The first game I went to I got a homerun ball, hit by Chet Lemon. I didn't catch it, but picked it up off the ground only to get drilled by some older dude going for it. He knocked me down and I got a bloody nose. Missed an entire inning!!
  8. Yeah, I think you would have a chance if he listed the wrong date on the ticket, but the court date being incorrect won't fly.
  9. QUOTE(ChiSoxLifer @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 02:36 AM) I've taken a little time to think this over before I posted. First of all, for all those so-called Sox fans that are ready to give up on the 2007 season before New Year's, the bandwagon ride is over. You guys sound as if you started rooting for my beloved team in October 2005. Feel free to jump off the bandwagon and I hope you break your ankles as you hit the ground. You can hate the trade or you can love the trade but you never give up on the team. You root for the player but love the laundry. Now my post has a lot of sarcasm in it so try to follow me. KW gets panned for trading Freddy Garcia for Gavin Floyd and Gio Hernandez. My first reaction to the Freddy trade was I thought KW should've received more in return for a guy who throws 87 mph heat and allows runners to run the bases like it's a merry-go-round. However, I decided to do a little research before I form an opinion. Yah he's a big game pitcher and won 17 games last year. Out of the 17 games he won, the Sox offense scored 6 or more runs in 13 of them. The main reason he won those many games is because the Sox were third in MLB in runs scored. Here's a guy who gave up nearly 5 earned runs a game, is in his walk year, and I expected to get a kings ransom for him? If KW could've got a better package for Freddy don't you think he would've done so? Well, ok I was wrong and decided Kenny knows better. The Sox did manage to get the 2nd ranked left-handed prospect in all of baseball and got Floyd as basically a throw-in. This trade basically opens up a roster spot for Cy McCarthy! I mean, after all, he did manage to shut down Boston, Texas, and the heavy hitting 2005 Twins, right? This guy came up and set the baseball world on fire, much like Liriano did in 2006. He's ready for ten Cy Young awards in a row! Then guess what? Kenny lost his mind again and traded our "Dontrelle Willis"! How could he do this to us? I like many others thought BMac was ruined in 2006 because they used him in the bullpen. It's a completely different mindset preparing for relief pitching as it is for starting. You look at how the Red Sox ruined Jonathan Papelbon by using him in relief. Papelbon was one of the BoSox's top starting pitcher prospects and decided to use him as a reliever. That guy had a horrible year and only saved 35 games with a 0.92 era. Obviously, the name of the game is to get the batters out no matter what the situation. Papelbon failed miserably. So KW trades Cy McCarthy and we only received the top ranked left handed prospect (6th overall I believe) in all of baseball. In addition we get a reliever who can throw some serious heat. This trade could do for the White Sox what trading Pierzyinski did for the Twins (Nathan, Liriano, and Bonser). The Garcia trade opened up the 5th spot in the rotation for a player that has question marks. We then traded McCarthy for 3 question marks but could eventually be better than Brandon. The 2007 season does not completely hinge on the 5 spot. It hinges on one through four to pitch the way we expect them to. You can't compare this situation to the 2004 5th starter debacle. The only decent pitcher the Sox had that year was Buehrle. The rest of the starting rotation wasn't that strong with a nearly 5.00 staff era. I fully expect this year's front four to be one of the best in the AL. Buehrle will bounce back and Jon will probably flirt with 18 wins again. Who the heck said Contreras was injury prone? He's averaged 31 starts the past three years. Please tell me where he's injury prone. The wild card in the rotation is Vasquez. He's got the stuff but does he have the mental makeup to get past his so-called 5 inning starts? I tell you what, if Javier had the same run support Freddy got, Javier would've won 17+ games. In his last ten starts, the Sox averaged less than 2 runs per game. It's these four guys that will make or break the 2007 season. Not McCarthy. Floyd will not be in the running for the fifth starter position. Kenny has said he will either be in the bullpen for this year or if he decides he'd rather start, he'll start out in the minors. I truly believe Charlie Haegar will get the 5th spot. I don't care if he throws a knuckler or 100 mph heat. If you can get the hitters out, you're doing your job. I've seen plenty of guys throw 95+ and get knocked around like a pinball. For the true White Sox fans, get the hell off the ledge. The White Sox still have one of the top ranked offenses in all of baseball. The front four rotation won't be as bad as it was for the 90 win 2006 team. The fifth starter only needs to be .500 or better and the bullpen will be downright nasty. It's going to be a great year and I can't wait for the season to start. Followed you just fine. Well done.
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Morrisey is getting to be as much of a douchebag as Mariotti. I said that same thing to my dad when he told me to read this article.
  11. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) I see. The nature of the vast majority of fans is that their expectations exceed what actually happens. Check out the prediction threads every year. I bet 85% or more of the win total predictions exceed what the team actually ended up winning. That's what fans do. They want their team to do well so much that they resolve most of the uncertainties in their head about their team in the positive direction. Anyone who isn't following the positive fan current is then labeled a pessimist. Isn't that what being a fan is all about? Rooting for your team to win. Rooting for them to exceed expectations, as they did in 2005. From reading your posts since you joined I really can't remember one positive post. It's like you live to be f***in complainer. For whatever reason your logic is b**** and moan CONSTANTLY about your team instead of cheer for them to win. You want to be a realist in life, go for it, but part of being a fan is being optimistic. It's rooting for your team even if they're the underdog. That's not to say you can't be critical, but you're for your team to win. Just like a player doesn't go into a game thinking we have no chance. Some of us fans aren't far removed from playing sports...hell I'm sure a lot of fans still play sports and you don't go into it thinking "we suck, we're gonna lose" You call yourself a realist...I say be real and take a look in the mirror and check out what you've been shoveling.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 07:56 AM) Interesting follow question that goes to the "illegals do the jobs that no one wants" arguement. One of the plants which was raided is taking applications, and had applicants lined up "out the door". http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/loca...5215724,00.html Related story Unions: Fewer Hispanic immigrants hired since raids Associated Press Posted Wednesday, December 20, 2006 OMAHA, Neb. — Fewer Hispanic immigrants are being hired to replace meatpacking workers arrested at Swift & Co. plants in Grand Island, Neb., and Greeley, Colo., during last week’s immigration raid, union officials said Tuesday. Local 22 union president Dan Hoppes said Tuesday that 40 to 50 new workers have been hired at the Grand Island plant since the raids. “The lion’s share of those people were Caucasian,” Hoppes said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials arrested nearly 1,300 people, most Hispanic, at six Swift & Co. plants in the sweep. Some experts say the raids could lead to a shortage of meatpackers, higher wages, and higher prices for the beef in homes and restaurants. Several union officials said Swift, which has denied knowingly hiring illegal workers and has not been charged, improved its wages, benefits and bonuses before the raids. “They’re trying to staff up their plants and they’ve been raising their wages the past few weeks,” said United Food and Commercial Workers spokeswoman Jill Cashen. “To me, it’s an example that when you make the job more attractive you get a different kind of applicant.” Raids were also conducted at Swift plants in Hyrum, Utah; Marshalltown, Iowa; and Worthington, Minn. Cashen did not provide phone numbers for union officials in Iowa and Minnesota. The union in Utah said it did not cover the Swift workers. A message left at Swift & Co. seeking comment was not immediately returned. In Greeley, where Swift is headquartered, union local president Ernie Duran said about 75 new workers have been hired — including about 30 Caucasians, 15 Somali immigrants and seven Hispanic immigrants, with the rest U.S.-born Hispanics. But the raid has not dissuaded Hispanic immigrants from seeking work at the plant, he said. Before the raids, roughly 90 percent of the Greeley plant workers were Hispanic, Duran said. It was unclear, of that 90 percent, how many were immigrants and how many were U.S.-born, as the union officials said they did not keep track of members’ immigration status.
  13. had me in tears. I've never seen that before.
  14. We use yahoo's rules, minus the def players cause we just have team defense. It sucks for you...I've been involed with my share of GM disputes and you swaer some people act like you get paid to put up with their bulls***. I now have my ass covered for everything. Not sure how much money is involved in your league, but that always heightens things. I personally think your team a,b,c thing for week 16 is your best bet. At least you give both those tied teams a chance. Lets face it, they both could have easily lost and now they both get second chance. Hopefully it works out. Fun thing we're doing this year is a week 17 Probowl. Everybody pitched in $5 for it, so $60 goes to the winner. Here's our rules I sent out... Here's the deal....Week 17 in the NFL can be a tricky one to predict. Who's resting for the playoffs, who's fighting for the playoffs, who can care less cause the season is over and their team sucks. Pick the players you think are going to do the best. Everybody picks a QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, K, DEF. ALL players are available to ALL teams. Teams will have some of the same players and that's all good, the only thing we can't have is 2 teams having the exact same lineup. If that occurs, which is highly unlikely, then it's first come first serve. The team that turned in their lineup first gets to keep it and the other team needs to change out one position. It can be kicker, tight end or whatever. If you choose players playing in the Saturday game(Giants@Skins), you must submit those players before the start of the game, Dec 30th 7:00pm and you will not be able to change out those positions. All other players on your team must be submitted by 11:45 Sunday. You can turn in a lineup by doing a reply to all in this email and listing your team. Everyone will be copied on all emails and it is your job to make sure you do not have the exact same team as someone else. The team that turned in their lineup first will win the money and you will win nothing. So be sure to check it out. Teams submitted after the deadline will not count and you lose your $5.00 Good Luck. The points have to be calculated manually so give me a day to let ya know the winner. In the event of a tie, which seems pretty likely this fricken season..we will use Yahoo's tiebreakers for the playoffs. 1. Most touchdowns scored by entire starting roster. 2. Most fantasy points by starting quarterback(s). 3. Most fantasy points by starting defensive team(s). 4. Most fantasy points by starting wide receiver(s). 5. Most fantasy points by starting running back(s). 6. Most fantasy points by starting tight end(s). 7. Most fantasy points by starting kicker(s). 8. Random "coin flip".
  15. QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) Isn't she some kind of genius? I thought she had left hollywood to be in academia? McKellar studied at UCLA, majoring in mathematics, and graduated summa cum laude in 1998. She coauthored a scientific paper which appeared in a peer-reviewed physics journal. 17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) I am a little biased since the sports department for the Herald writes me a check every two weeks:P , but the Daily Herald IMO has one of the best, if not the best sports section in Chicago. I've been a subscriber for about a week and a half, so far it is leaps and bounds better than the times.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 08:41 AM) How would requiring selecting someone with different views honor the voter's intent? I don't see anyone here mentioning anything about Federal. My point is honor the intent of the voters and select someone similar in views. So far no one has tackled this from the voter's perspective. How do you prove voters intent?

  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) You don't feel comfortable with the debate panel? Its two people from opposite ends of the political spectrum, neither of whom are running. They stay. Just to be clear, if you read the original schedule, it states the election schedule - next week. Let's stick with that. We hadn't specified a new round of debate, but if you'd both like, we can have one - if Soxy and SS2K5 are willing to put the time in. Otherwise, if you just want to start some threads yourself to do whatever kind of debating with Rex you want, you are welcome to do so. So let's start with this - each of you pick a Veep. And if both of you are in for this, then you can debate at will on whatever topics you'd like. Alternately, maybe you could actually answer the debate topics you chose to ignore previously. Either way, I'll set up the vote for next week, as previously planned. So basically the debate panel isn't up for debate?
