HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
Controlled Chaos replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) This is hockey. You don't have to score points to be having good offensive games. Right now the Toews bunch is really doing the scoring. That leaves the rest of the lines to go into lockdown and cycle deep mode, which is what has been happening. Hossa has been great at clearing the defensive zone, carrying the puck, and getting it deep to start the cycle. I agree and have said he is doing some other things good, but he is also getting paid to score. He's getting paid elite money here and he's getting it for a long time. He's making 7.9 million. Only 10 people in the NHL make more than him and 5 of them are at 8 mil. So pretty much he is right there with the top 5 in the league. You don't pay that for someone to clear the defensive zone, carry the puck, and get it deep to start the cycle. His numbers are sure to fall with age, so he needs to start earning that's all. I'm not saying he isn't trying hard. He's one of the hardest and most consistent horses in the race, but there needs to be goal scoring. That's not an outlandish request. I'm not trying to change his game. I want him to keep doing what he's doing with the addition of putting the puck in the back of the net. He has 44 SOG these playoffs, 2nd on the team to Sharps 49. He's shooting enough....he needs to bury it. -

Come on Hossa defenders. I'm a fan of him, but he is having an average playoffs. He is being paid for his overall game...that includes scoring goals. He has 1 big time goal in these playoffs. The open net tap in, while huge given it's timing, was pretty much something anyone that can stand on skates would have put in. He skated to the net after his penalty and had his stick on the ice. I am grateful for it though. I'm also grateful for his overall game. He has been stellar on back checking and puck possesion...but he needs to step up offensively as well. He has had 0 points in 7 of 14 games these playoffs. 11 pts puts him 14th amoungst players still active in this postseason. He's better than that...he's elite. I expect better, he expects better and you should too. Hoping he heats up when they get home. -

Can anyone make a cool picture of the Indian Head headbutting the Sharks logo and smashing it's nose? -

Report: Obama to nominate Kagan to Supreme Court
Controlled Chaos replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 17, 2010 -> 10:46 AM) I'd just like to throw in here, that given Kagan has gotten such negative reaction from the far left and far right politically... Obama probably made a decent choice here. In fact I'm surprised he had the balls to nominate someone who wasn't obviously far left, which is what everyone expected him to do. She's as far left as they come only without the paper trail. This is why she's the perfect candidate for Barry. There isn't much to vet her on, but make no mistake, Obama knows where she stands. -
QUOTE (juddling @ May 14, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) Already got season 1 of Better Off Ted on DVD and still makes me laugh out loud...... Agree....these execs just don't know good tv.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 13, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) The combination of internet porn and actually having been laid has made it so that I could read any Playboy ever made and not even get...how do I say this politely...a chubby. Hence my initial internet joke...which fell as flat as kate hudson playboy spread.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ May 13, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) I still recommend the museums - LACMA, Getty, Museum of Tolerance, Griffith Observatory, Huntington Gardens, etc. Santa Monica is nice, but Venice and its boardwalk are better. Even Hollywood is nice if you like tourist-type stuff. The Chinese Theatre is amazing, and the best place to actually see a movie in LA. I imagine In-n-Out Burgers is on your list, right? Went to Santa Monica for my 1 year Anniversary. The promenade was nice..cool place to go stroll around with the wife. Santa Monica Pier was kind of a dump, but we went there to check it out. We took a cab to Venice Beach and then walked back to Santa Monica...it was a long walk, but pretty interesting. Venice beach is your chance to see every type of person ever created on this Earth. The one thing that caught me off guard about Santa Monica was the homeless people. They were everywhere. Most were harmless, but quite a few we're pretty aggressive. This was Sept 05...not sure if things have changed. I wouldn't let it deter you...just a heads up.

Katy Perry reminds me of Zooey Deschanel....so for me... cute and deserving of being on the list, but not hot and not #1.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 12, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) His point is wrong because of the data. Why is that hard to understand? He said there are horrible parts there and horrible parts here. He's right. He never said factually and statistically Chicago = Juarez. It was probably the most insignificant comment in his whole post anyway. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 12, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) Our point is that you have nothing to actually back that up. Whatever...I got his point... I don't need hard data... -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2010 -> 08:08 AM) Not only that, but were behind an attempted nuclear attack on US soil. Ya, that is not something you just allow to be covered up. It also sounds like it might go a lot further. Jack is wrong too in the way he is going about it, executing people, but I'd side more with him. Blasphemy!

Just for reference...more murders in Chicago than soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq this year. Not sure how many murders in Mexico. -

The June edition of Playboy will have pictures in 3D!! Consequently, doctors are predicting about 13% of pubescent boys to experience headaches, dizziness and carpal tunnel. The other 87% have internet access.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) Right now, this is basically the case for immigration from Central and south american countries: even if you have a job lined up, there are no permanent Visas available, only temporary worker permits (and for those, you better be both very skilled and very lucky, because there's vastly more demand for H1B visas than there are of those). Your grandmother couldn't have gotten in unless the person who was sponsoring her was also her spouse. And even then, we're talking about years. She waited years and when she was able to come legally...she did....just saying it wasn't easy back then either. I can't even imagine how coming here illegally would have been done back then...but she didn't pursue it anyway. She waited until her name was called. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) Damn Hawks not winning on Sunday. I have a feeling that when its all said and done Lost is going to triumph over the hockey game for television time. Hawks start at 8:30...So you can watch first half of Lost...then after first period watch some, then after second period watch some. No way I can miss the Hawks

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) And if people from Europe faced the same immigration restrictions that we've put on Mexicans...he'd have had to choose between not immigrating and immigrating illegally. Really?? I don't pretend to know all the restrictions...I'm sure others have parents that have gone through it and they can maybe explain it better, but things were pretty restrictive for my wife's Grandma. For her to come here from Italy she had to be sponsored by a citizen and she had to have proof of employment. She left her 3 kids in Italy with her husband while she came here alone to see if they can make a better life here. That was in 62...Her husband and the kids, including my mother in law, were able to come over in 64. The quota for Italians was 5,666 back then. Seems pretty restrictive to me. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) ^^And what would you do if that was your family? (Y2HH) "Sorry honey. We'll have to stay here and get killed my the drug cartel. I wouldn't want to impose on anyone by moving 100 miles north." You're missing another alternative...moving 100 miles south. It is a s***ty situation no doubt, but the options weren't get killed or sneak into the US illegally. -
