  4. Stanford stays undefeated... 76-67 They really traded punches with USC in the middle to late second half, until USC couldn't hit a free throw down the stretch. I listened to the game online... It sounded like Stanford was calm, even after being up double digits in the second half, and letting USC pull back to even. They waited for thier shots and knocked 'em down. There's no Reason to believe that they won't make it through the regular season undefeated. (except for the fact that I just jinxed them by typing that)
  5. First of all Mondesi hasn't signed anywhere. There have been "Several published reports" but the Pirates have not confirmed anything. So your definition of OUTSPENDING is, spending less money for clubhouse-killer(mondesi) and a sausage-beater(Simon)? We have not been out spent. There are a reason those guys are still left on the market. Even astacio, who was a big trade deadline move just 2 years ago, has BIG ??? surrounding him.
  6. WTF!!! The pirates are trimming 15 MIL in payroll this season. scroll down to bottom of article
  7. They drew something like 3.7 MIL last season, and are likely to top 4MIL this year. :puke
  8. They were on the hook for 11-17MIL over the next two years to Wagner. Plus they got Duckworth, and two prospects. And they already have Dotel who is lights out, to close, and Lidge to set-up. So reviewing, they have a stud closer in Dotel. A quality set-up man in Lidge. And freed up enough money to go get TWO top starters. It boggles my mind how you can question Houston's offseason moves.
  9. MB had turned down an even larger contract the year before. Using your own words to illustrate why they paid MB the way they did: The Sox didn't want to damage a player who has already expressed interest in another team(Cardinals). They likely weighed the financial implications of paying him Maybe 500K more than he would have recieved at arbitration this year, versus locking him into a contract where he avoids arbitration altogether. Thus, MB doesn't have to hear bis name dragged through the mud, and will be much more likely to resign with the club at the termination of the contract. MB's contract structure: 3.5 Mil this season, based on the criteria you were just given, what do you feel MB would have earned by going to arbitration? My thought is that it would be very comparable to the salary he is already recieving, and quite possibly could be more. He did win 19 games in '02, had the best WHIP in the AL in '01, has pitched in 220+ innings in each of the last three years. He made 445K last year, a gagne-like %900 increase would put him at 4MIL next year.
  10. On PTI today, they had on Phil Martelli for thier "five good minutes" segment. He cited the reason they wouldn't beat duke/go deep in the tourney. They don't have any inside scoring presense.
  11. Everythign I have seen rates William as an Early to mid first round pick. and Clayton as a mid first Round to Early second round pick. Clayton did really impress at the Senior Bowl, his draft stock could continue to rise, but right now, he's still rated lower than Williams. Plus, I'm running this thing, so to you.

    Jason...

9 threads in the last year that had "Cheat" in the title... Of those: 2 were about Sammy Sosa 1 was about U of T 2 were regarding sigs 1 was about the show Cheaters and 1 was title "KICK THE CHEAT" -- started by me.
  13. I think the most interesting situation comes at the trade deadline. We know Maggs wants to test the FA waters. There will be a few suitors, but I think given another year, salaries will continue to drop. And next year we should have a lot more room to play with money-wise. I think maggs will end up with a deal at about 10-12 MIL a year. That is his value, and I think the market will have fully adjusted from its peak a few years ago. But what happens should the sox be 3.5 GB on July 31? Is there onother "white Flag" trade? If Maggs is involved, will he be willing to resign with the sox the following off-season? I see that as the crux of the situation, We may be able to get a stud prospect, and maggs plus payroll flexibility after the season. KW's job this season could be more interesting than his one last year.
  14. Hey guys, Jason set up this sub-forum for us, so I'm going to put it to good use.. Everyone should have recieved a PM with the league info, it's kinda hard to keep track since you can't send a mass PM, (or at least I don't know how). Here's who's alredy registered a team. Cheat - The Cheats WHarris13 - WHarris13's Soxnbears - Soxnbears' Army SoxBadger - Badger's Black Sox soxfan420 - Team Stoners DonkeyKongerko - DK Barons Ribbie Rubarb - Beecher meats Supernuke - Supernukers CubsSuck1 - Cubsuck1 Loaiza21 - hasn't signed up SoxFest - SS Hitmen Baggio202 - hasn't signed up ---------------------------------------- The Draft is currently set for Thursday, March 11th @ 8:15 PM CST. There should be enough time between now and then to clear your schedule. If it seems to be a problem for more than a few people, I'll look to rescedule it. It's highly likely that we won't be able to please everyone. Pushing the draft back just an hour, would make willie available, but that's kind of late for some. Take a look at the league settings over there, and make any suggestions here. I'd like to keep pitching and hitting equal, and not end up with too many redundant categories. Thanks- The Cheat
  15. That's bad news on the clifton thing.... The pack likely only had to clear a little room to keep him around. This was written yesterday, before the new cap was announced.
