Hoping that the Sox replace Grifol while JR still owns the team is a lot like hoping a person with two broken legs gets new shoes.

Maeda vs Soroka
What do the Sox have in common with a teenage boy:
Still trying to get to 2nd base.

Okay, I will politely ask, on what planet do these guys "blow"?
Bullpen: CL Kopech; SU Brebbia; Leasure & Wilson; MR Banks; Hill; Swing: Garcia; Toussaint
John Brebbia's coming off a season of 1.174 WHIP, striking out 11 per 9 innings.
Steven Wilson threw a 1.170 WHIP and had 9.7 k/9.
Tanner Banks - 1.230 WHIP, strikes out less than a batter an inning, but his ratio is 3.19 k/bb.
Tim Hill, as recently as 2022 threw a 1.229 WHIP.
Kopech was great out of the bullpen in 2021. He can't seem to wrap his head around starting.
Jordan Leasure and Deivi Garcia have tremendous upside.
Touki was solid last year as a swing man, and has calmed down from a couple bad first outings this spring. If the bullpen can't figure out how to actually subtract runs from the other team, it won't matter.

OK this is nitpicky considering how well Crochet pitched, but why the hell was he throwing a hittable pitch to Baez on 0-2? The dude swings at literally everything.
Of course, if that hadn't happened, the game might still be going on.

Not available on the 300 level, which is fine anyway since I took advantage of my first opportunity to buy a beer at a baseball game.

Bought tix because I want to see the 2024 Sox when they aren't under .500.
Bought Club Level seats so we can retreat into the heated concourse in case the wind whips up.
Last year, club level ticket holders weren't allowed down to the 100 level. Has that changed? Food and merchandise options are limited on the club level.

Someone tell me if this could work:
MLB creates their own group of RSNs. Essentially MLB network but showing local games and with local studio shows supplemented by MLB Network national games and programming.
Teams would have the option to sell any or all of their games to a local OTA station and black out the game from the RSN in the area covered by that station (but ONLY the area covered by that station).

LOL at people trying to sell tix on Stubhub at 3x or more face value when it's not a sellout.

To be clear, several of you are actually watching the women’s tournament and not just pretending to in order to have something to discuss? 😆
I went to a game yesterday, does that count?

4/30 so far have put the Sox in the top three. Our spirit has been broken.
I feel pretty good about Minnesota 1st and Cleveland 2nd. On paper, Detroit is a clear 3rd but they seem to always underperform. I really think there could be three teams winning < 75 games.

We own Mexico at this point. Undefeated in the last 7. Beat them in 3 straight Nations Leagues.
Australia plays in Asia for competitive reasons.
Israel plays in Europe for political reasons.
Is it time for the US to find a new home?

On the men's side, only two of the Sweet 16 are not from the Power 6 conferences, and even those two, Gonzaga and San Diego St, are perennially strong. Somehow we ended up with an ACC team as the Cinderalla.

If DeJong's still getting serious innings in September, Monty's a ways off.
I was always under the impression that Lopez and Dejong become a 2B platoon once Montgomery is up.

Maybe Eloy is the RH part of that platoon until then. In which case, they're DHing Mendick/Stassi on days they're facing a LHP. Besides that, Wynton Bernard and Yoelki Cespedes are the highest ranking, right-handed hitting outfielders in the system. Bernard has hit in AAA for Colorado and Toronto, and Fangraphs seems to like him as a CF.
I wonder if Getz will be watching for more OFs on the waiver wire.
I'd probably throw Mendick out in RF before Eloy.

63-99. Dramatic 9th inning comeback in the last game to avoid losing 100.

Good chance Alt isn't there, and the next best LT is Fashanu, who is projected to go around 14-15.
So I think going nuclear if they don't draft a LT at 9 isn't the best approach...
Well, by failing to address that position for essentially my entire lifetime, they've backed themselves into a corner. They'll have to take the 14th best player at #9, or trade down and gamble that he's still there.
Odunze or any other WR isn't going to be worth anything if you don't get a LT who can give the QB time to throw.
I'd give up future picks to go up and get Alt but I know they won't do that.

I heard today Kiper has 20 WR in this years draft with a 1-4th round grade on them. I know Kiper isn’t what he used to be, but others have discussed how good of a draft class this is for WR. I still think I’d prefer an edge rusher at 9, it’s a bigger need for this team over the next 2 years, but if one of the top 3 WR are there at 9, would be hard to pass on them.
I would also add the 4 teams that were in the Conference Championship games this season…no one had a better WR than DJ Moore. And you could make the argument the only WR better than Allen is St. Brown. (Diggs looks washed at this point) That isn’t mentioning teams like GB and Houston, who had explosive offensives with no highly selected WR’s on the roster
If they don't draft a LT at 9, then they fucking deserve to lose every game.

Which also means it is a next year pick
Meanwhile, they didn't sign Tyron Smith. Alt won't be available at 9. Fashanu might not either. LT is arguably the second-most important offensive position on the field and it's going to be the weakest position on the Bears offense.

Fields to Steelers
6th round pick that can become a 4th based on playing time.
Would have kept him as the backup if that's all they got, especially since they're gonna need a backup with Braxton Jones at LT.

So they are shopping Fields, they just haven't liked the possible returns.
Or they're trying to make everybody think they're shopping Fields.

It's basically a mid 4th rounder if you calculate the difference in pick values. So you've got Howell going for a comp 3rd and Pickett going for a mid 4th. If the Bears truly aren't shopping Fields yet, I think that's like the floor for his value. If they have been shopping him and either nobody is biting or they haven't liked the returns, then I'm not really sure what you'll get for him with the number of backup spots dwindling.
I guess it's possible that spots can open up after the draft, especially with New England possibly trading out of #3.
And I know this sounds insane, but if Rodgers somehow actually decides to run for VP with RFK Jr., I doubt he'll be able to play football at the same time.
I doubt he'll be able to play football (well) anyway, but I don't see him giving up $38 million. It's not like it's a real campaign anyway.

Given how the Sox are playing, it's very unlikely I'll be starting game threads all week.
