  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 02:11 AM) Invisible bat swing...the offense needs someone to step up and get a big hit. They're missing the swagger they had from last weekend. Didn't Oakland beat the piss out of the Sox earlier this year in the Cell? Seems I recall some sad nights vs. Oak this season.
  2. Hawk seems to be in the rare bad mood tonight wanting to pick fights with Stoney. Haven't heard him this way in a while.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 02:06 AM) You have to hope he doesn't fall into a mental funk batting lower in the order again. Yeah, his mental funks give me mental distress. You've said it before but he needs his parents to come to every fricking game to save their son's career. I will never say 'This game is Ova' in the third but I don't like our chances vs. former Sox McCarthy (cut Adam Dunn homer?)
  4. Gordon should learn how to drag bunt more. He is so mediocre as a hitter it amazes me.
  5. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) She just loves green and gold. Great great line. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 12:38 AM) Calling up Morel would be so stupid. You can't have an entire bench full of defensive-oriented players, especially with Konerko missing at least 7 games. If they do call up Morel, they need to then get rid of Hudson. The bench has been a weakness all year, and with PK out, now isn't the time for KW to neglect the bench. Amen, brotha. No Morel, please. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 01:44 AM) lighter bat? softer swing? Do something Tank. He definitely needs help. His approach is horrific. It's electric the times he actually makes contact with a slight uppercut, but the man needs to listen to his batting coach who certainly doesn't condone the way he approaches each at bat.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) I wonder if greg still thinks Miami is going to get into the playoffs, but I wouldn't put it past him. I guess I was wrong about the playoffs this year, but I still think Ozzie is a top flight manager. Don't know what will happen in Miami now. I haven't been keeping up with them. Don't know if the owners care or not.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 12:39 AM) whats your twitter? id follow the s*** out of you That made me laugh. My style of posting here gains me rabid supporters and those who block me. I have found I am more of a wannabee know it all on here than in real life.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 12:05 AM) I take it back. Spell words out like they should. Too used to Twitter. Where you put u instead of you and thanx instead of thanks.
  9. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 11:47 PM) I hate whoever is chasing us or whoever we're chasing in the standings. My hate for the Cubs has totally gone away this year. Theyre not the hot ticket they used to be, I get offered free tickets from a neighbor nearly every game because no one wants to go unless a good team is in town, back to being lovable losers and I havent heard a frat boy sing Go Cubs Go in quite some time so all is well here on the northside of chicago. Ugh. Do Cub fans really sing that song? Going to college in Illinois would be awful, cause there probably are a ton more Cub fans. I never thought of that. Do any Illinois state colleges have more Sox fans? I've heard ISU has a lot of Southsiders go there. How bout Northern Illinois being out West? I'd assume U of I is full of Cub fans.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) greg is really an outstanding guy. Who cares that he has a hard-on for ozzie as I do snooki and j-wwow. greg is great. Thanx. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 08:45 AM) I know. It's just since Robin was hired, he and I rarely agree. I documented the exact moment in the Robin Ventura Hired thread. But greg is pretty awesome. Thanx.
  11. I've never understood the Cubs hatred. When I was little my grandfather was a big Cubs fan so he took me to a ton of games. At the same time we had Sox season tickets so my dad took me to a ton of Sox games. I liked both teams at the time. When we moved to Naperville in high school I gravitated completely to the Sox and just didn't care if the Cubs won or lost. Now I despise when we play the Royals. I don't hate the Royals but I hate when we play them because I know damn well our performance against KC again will cost us the division title. We play 3 more in Kauffman next weekend and I guarantee you Sox lose 2, maybe all 3. That will be a killer cause Detroit can pick up 3 games on us next weekend. If I had to pick a team I hated it would be the Twins cause of the all the years you could pencil in a Sox defeat when we played them.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) There's a reason bench players are bench players. Yes, the Sox bench hasn't hit at all, but chances are anyone acquired to be a bench player isn't going to be a huge upgrade. Great post. The bench isn't going to be improved this season. The key is Viciedo to pull his head out of his ass and start hitting like he's capable of. A .250 batting average with horrible on base percentage isn't cutting it. He's just not having a very good season. Has anybody noticed Alexei's on base percentage this year is horrible with his 10 lousy walks as well? If Beckham, Lexi and Viciedo were able to have a great final six weeks, our lineup might be amazing.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) We would call this "Hate". It's also troublesome that you would use the phrase "The natural way". There is nothing "unnatural" about being gay. It happens in nature all the time. It has happened throughout human history. I simply meant having grandkids by nature, not by adopting. Only way a gay couple can have kids is by adopting. That's all I meant there. Do you know any of the people I speak of? If you lived on the southside for any period of time you know there are Archie Bunker types all over the place that would disown their own kids. It's all about pleasing them.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) This Annie Hall clip is getting a lot of play this last week: this is because the people Mitt Romney (and his campaign) have been citing to make their arguments keep coming out and saying that they've read their work completely backwards, if they've bothered to read it at all. That clip made me laugh; thanks for posting.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 05:50 PM) It's all part of the same culture of hate. You think so? I just think there's a lot of blue collar people on the south side who would disown their own kids over this issue and it has nothing to do with CFA or anything like that. They are just opinionated beer drinkers who want grandkids the natural way and don't want their kids to be gay. I could be mistaken, but there are some badasses on the south side who simply will not tolerate their kids being gay.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) "This is how hate sounds" It's incredibly sad a dad would disown his kid over this, but sure I could see it happening. Some of the dads in my old neighborhood on the south side remind me of Archie Bunker on those all in the family reruns. No way they are going to be around a person who engages in same sex activity, even if it is their son. And some of my relatives from the south side ... if I was to tell them I was gay (which I'm not) they would laugh in my face, say I'm disgusting and also tell me to get away. No matter what, some parents aren't gonna be OK with their kids being gay and it has nothing to do with CFA or organizations that denounce gay marriage. It's a parent being upset at all the hassles of having a gay son or daughter. Maybe hassles isn't the right word, maybe it's embarrassment or something. I feel for that person whose dad disowned him.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 01:15 PM) Maybe it was having her patriotism questioned? Fox Sports shouldn't have gone there. That segment sickened me. Sometimes people forget these gymnasts are 16 f***ing years old. They don't even have driver's licenses in some cases. Shut the f*** up, adults.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 07:09 AM) This team would have 100 wins RIGHT NOW if it weren't for Matt Thornton He's definitely one of my least favorite Sox now that Ohman is gone.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 03:31 AM) Early in the game, it was obvious they were flat tonight. Something just seemed off, and I think we really miss Rios' presence in the lineup. His swagger at the plate has been amazing of late. Sox are 4-5 against the Royals. Sox continually refuse to take this team seriously and play good baseball (I won't say play hard, cause I don't know what that means) against KC. When are the Sox going to wake up and realize KC gives them a game every single time they play the Royals?? The Royals suck and losing 2 of 3 is inexcusable in the Cell after losing 2 of three to KC earlier this season in the Cell. Sickening. We're lucky we won that 14 inning game in KC very lucky or we'd have lost that series against them as well. But just go through the motions against KC, White Sox, very smart. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 04:07 AM) Geez, I live here in Denver and watch National League teams just hit the crap out of Guthrie, both at home and on the road, and he comes to Chicago and throws his glove on the mound and no one can hit him. I did not see the game, all I can go by is the box score, but the White Sox accomplished something that looked to be impossible -- to make Guthrie look like a major league pitcher. Guthrie is one of the worst players in baseball again this year. Inexcusable. I don't agree it balances out, either. Fine that we can kick the s*** out of the Rangers. We just give it back by losing to KC all the time. If you want to win the division you beat teams like the Royals, case closed. Next faceplant against KC will be coming a week from Friday through Sunday. We'll definitely lose 2 of 3 minimum. Wonder who Detroit is playing those three days?
  20. It's like we are a different team when we play the Royals. Sometimes we play funky lineups like tonight ... usually we can't hit. They hit the long ball oft-times. They actually play well which they rarely do against anybody else. Very weird. I mean at least the Twins have played like a team with a horrible record against us, lot of errors and crazy plays. Not the Royals.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 02:05 AM) Even though the Sox have way more HR during the season KC out homering Sox head to head. I think KC is last in all of baseball in HRs. No matter what happens tonight, I hope nobody has posts praising Guthrie. Please spare us. If he shuts us down, it's all on the Sox. The guy is trash pitcher. 3-12 or something?
  22. The Royals have played great against the Sox even with Hosmer sucking big-time. Scary to think how bad we'd be against them if he could hit. Aza with a two out hit. will he be running?
  23. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 9, 2012 -> 01:48 AM) I don't understand why the Sox are willing to give away so many AB's with Viciedp in such a tight race in August. Who do you want to play in his place? He is the Sox left fielder this year for better or worse. His style of hitting is really maddening, though, when he is not going well which this year is a good chunk of the time.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) Of course you didn't. But my point is, even when Dunn is good he goes through periods in which he appears to be the worst player in baseball. As much as I'm tempted to blast a guy who is hitting .205 and is setting all kind of strikeout records, I can't. I don't know his WAR or anything, but my eyes tell me he's been responsible for so many victories the Sox would be sucking without him. Same with Rios and AJ. And Paulie the first half was responsible for a lot of wins. Youk the second half has been. Same with Reed's closing. He's been exceptional. So I will try all season not to blast guys who are responsible for the Sox being in the race. I do think we are gonna run out of gas badly, however. Detroit will win the division and there are a buncha teams vying for the WCs. I think we can sneak in and get the second WC. Hope I'm wrong and we win the division. Sox deserve a team grade of A at this point of season.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) Guthrie threw a quality start his last time out. Of course, that was one of only 2 or 3 he has thrown all year... He is crap. Hopefully even Hudson can hit this guy. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:43 PM) I can't believe all the whining that is done on this site, especially in the game threads. It's called the Internet. That's what goes on on the Internet. People act completely different than they way they act in real life cause they can use fake names and don't have to print their real addresses and real names. -- Hope we can win with the weird lineup. Rios has to sit cause of his back. DeAza also has a bad back. Morel out with a bad back. Youk has had back issues. Danks out for season. Peavy refuses to be taken out of games further risking injury in his comeback season. ... Paulie's wrist arguably wrecked or 60 percent .... Can our players hold up?
