QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) Loria does have something of a history of discarding managers, although none of them had Ozzie type money to be rid of. They dumped Girardi after he won the manager of the year award right? I figured he'd be too cheap to can Ozzie. Loria hangs around the locker room so much I'm sure Ozzie already is realizing how much better he had it in Chicago. Here, Jerry rarely shows up to voice his displeasure from what I can ascertain and KW also stayed away from Ozz. In Miami, those team execs seem to talk with him a lot judging from the Franchise. Good lesson again in the grass not always being greener somewhere else. Loria was pissed in the one clip when Heath Bell blew that game with a three run lead. He yelled from his seat, 'Get him out of there.' And Loria's seat is mighty close to Oz's perch in the dugout.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 09:00 PM) It won't happen Greg, it just won't. How long you think it'll be before they give him the axe in Miami?

QUOTE (KG#1 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) There is this crazy new thing called the internet where you can look up information . . . Since joining the Indians he is 2 for 9 (.222), a run scored and a couple of strikeouts. With Boston he sucked. Kind of seems like 2011 was just a good year for a good guy . . . My guess is he will be in the minors for a few years, then be done with baseball altogether soon after. LOL. I'd rather ask my friends on here to provide me the info. 2-for-9 is about right. I think your prediction of his future is a good one.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 08:55 PM) :lolhitting Damn, greg. I'm not defending you anymore. Ozzie is terrible and I'll switch over to the Cubs before I root for an Ozzie Guillen-managed team again. Just a little conversation about where he'll end up next. I think he'll complete his four year deal with Miami. Loria does seem a bit insane though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) I'd join the riot and make the effigy of the GM that hired him. He's really been pretty calm since the Castro thing. Even his visit to Chicago didn't result in any fireworks quotes really. I think he's learned his lesson pretty much over the Castro thing. Seems to have humbled him or shut him up. His language is pretty salty for this P/C age with all the f-bombs, but that doesn't seem to bother baseball execs too much.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) This will assuredly be Guillen's final managerial position unless he turns things around swiftly and sticks with the Marlins for a few years of productivity. I dunno about that. I bet the Marlins keep him through his entire contract and then they let him go if they haven't made the playoffs. If he gets let go I could see a team like the Royals or Orioles taking him or even the White Sox taking him back if Robin decides he's not wanting to be a manager for 20 years. Robin has assured himself of staying with the Sox as long as he wants from his performance this year. He'll never say anything stupid to get himself fired and he's proven he knows what he's doing. But if he decides to quit in 3-4 years, I could see the Sox turning to Ozzie again, like the Yankees did with Billy Martin. Maybe the Cubs.

Do you guys/gals sense that because of our injuries and dead arm of Sale we are destined to play in the one game Wild Card playoff? I think that is the Sox destiny this season.
-
We play the Royals several more times. This could be bad, cause Broxton could implode in the ninth. They now have MUCH BETTER closer options in terms of stuff.
-
How has he been doing? Is hit finally hitting? Geting regular at bats?

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) and professional wrestling is real Why do you guys think the show is staged? Yes, the participants know they are on camera. Yes that may change their behavior a bit, but as far as a script? It doesn't seem like that is happening. Episode One was available on youtube. I watched most of it last night.

DING-DONG THE METRODOME IS DEAD- Sox/Twins game thread

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 03:23 AM) Another umpire who doesn't understand the game. Fire them all and start over with umpires who give a damn. That's what is sad. Somehow the umpires became bigger than the game of baseball. A huge part of what is wrong with baseball is the umpiring. I guess it's the ump union. Must be nice. Umpires are a disgrace to the great game of baseball. Like you said, THEY DO NOT CARE!!!!! -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) How do you know no one tried to trade for him? Because KW would have dumped him in about 10 seconds. No way he would have stuck by Dunn. Do you remember how bad he was a year ago? No way at the time Kenny would have though, "This season is an anomaly. He will lose 15 pounds this winter and work out harder and return to the Dunn of old next year and we'll gladly pay him." Kenny would have dumped that contract if anybody wanted him. At least that is my strong opinion.

DING-DONG THE METRODOME IS DEAD- Sox/Twins game thread

That bottom of the ninth inning seemed like it took about one minute for the Twins to bust the tie. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:45 AM) The idea would be that God operates on a higher plane of understanding than we do, so the reasons would be unfathomable. I also find that explanation to be an entirely too convenient explanation for everything. Interesting. The thing is, if you believe in God, you believe we are his children and he loves his children. Yet in granting the 6 year old girl in the theatre admission into this life, God did so full well knowing she would die at 6 in horrible fashion.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:01 AM) You certainly weren't the only one, but you were the most vocal on this site. Of course I wanted the Sox to dump him. He was a disaster. There were a few people that said he'd return to his norm. Looks like a lot of GMs agreed with me. Not one GM saw Dunn turning it around, because nobody tried to trade for him. Whoever said the Sox should keep Dunn no matter what, stand up and take a bow. He's having a very good season.
-
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 06:56 AM) Coming from the guy that was desperate to get rid of Dunn last year. That's cause he was the worst player in baseball history for a single season. Like I was the only one. LOL ...

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 03:58 AM) Danny Knobler of CBS Sports says the Indians are teling teams they may be open to trading Masterson. The Reds & Rangers had scouts at his last start. Choo is also a name popping up & the teams interested are once again the Reds & Rangers. Last but not least there have been rumblings about Chris Perez being moved due to the emergence of Vinnie Pestano, but Knobler says that is probably doubtful. I guess being swept by the Twins put a damper on their season a bit. It amazes me how teams sign guys in the offseason to huge deals, then once reality sets in and the team is five or more games out at the trading deadline, the teams try like crazy to get rid of the contracts. Wild.

Is amazing how much the Sox rotation has changed cause of stuff. Who would have thought Quintana, Sale, Liriano, Floyd, Peavy and Humber would be the rotation? And with Sale apparently needing rest even he will probably not finish the season. Wow.
-
QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 03:40 AM) Once everyone gets healthy the offense is fine. The offense is fine except on nights the Sox get shut out.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:30 AM) Yeah...I'm kinda done cheering solid contact for Beckham. He needs to get on base. It's getting ridiculous. Not really ridiculous. He can't hit. He gets hot for a 2 week period a couple times per season and that's about it for him. Why not just enjoy his great defense while realizing any base hit from this Brian Anderson clone will be a bonus. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:45 AM) All this "mentally weak" stuff about Gavin is such garbage. He's an OK starter, not amazing. I don't see why an interesting narrative has to be created about each particular guy Great post IMO. Gavin is what he is. He's about a B to B-minus pitcher.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) Maybe I'm being glass half-full here, but I would say he's a work in progress, raw talent and lots of upside if they can harness that natural power. Very effortless 98-99 mph fastball. Once he learns to control it more consistently, and couples it with a consistent breaking pitch, he's going to be deadly. I love the fact that he's seeing a lot of high-pressure situations against the league's best lineups. Sure, he's failing at times, but that's only going to make him better down the road. No wonder he's wild with that Keith Foulke type delivery.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) CC Sabathia. Halladay for most of his contract. Felix Hernandez. Verlander. Take Halladay out of there. He's hurt, isn't he? Three guys. Think of all the money going to pitchers that turned out to be a big waste of cash. The owners can't help themselves. They've got to have these big name pitchers and will pay them gads of money each offseason. Sad.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:41 PM) Kentucky basketball is the only thing people care about in the entire state of Kentucky, save about a 20-mile radius around Louisville. There are also plenty of people who have lived on the Indiana side of the river their entire lives that are die-hard Kentucky fans. It's reason #1 I want to get the f*** out of here. It must be sickening. Do the Kentucky basketball fans even enjoy the games? Or just expect to win the games and win them by a lot of points? All Kansas fans here do is b**** during the games. They do not seem to enjoy them, at least the ones who watch on TV. The ones actually in the fieldhouse seem to enjoy the games somewhat, albeit worried the entire time that the team might actually lose a game. I can only imagine what it's like with Kentucky fans. I wish the NCAA would strip all teams of scholarships for 10 years and start over and demand documentation of each kid's classes and determine which players are making a mockery of the system. It is not amateurism any more. there are exceptions where a player who knows he's not headed to the NFL or NBA might major in architecture or medicine or something, but for the kids with NBA aspirations? Ha. The academic scandal at NC I'm sure goes on EVERYWHERE.

I read a good column by Leonard Pitts saying that the liberal media never mentions the possibility that there is evil in the world and that evil has been around forever. He said it makes as much sense as anything to ask the Lord (the person the liberal media and Bill Maher say do not exist) to fix things. Interesting take. He takes everything out of the equation except the plain, simple fact that evil exists and in this case exists in the form of the orange-haired bastard. On a final note (it would be interesting to have a poll on here asking who believes there is God and who doesn't), let's say you do believe in God. ... Being that he is all knowing, for eternity he knew this creep in Colorado was going to do this on a certain date in the year 2012. Does God shake his head (if he has one) when the day finally arrives and say, 'Darn, why did I allow this bastard to do this?' Or say, 'Where did I go wrong in creating this guy?' or does he simply say, 'Devil, evil you won this one, but a lot of good happened in that theatre as well. Like people giving up their own lives to save others.' It is crazy to think an all knowing God knew the day would come when this creep would 12 people by blowing into a movie theatre. Just as he knew there would be concentration camps, Hitler, etc. Now does he sit around and wait for the next catastrophe on the agenda that he already knows will happen??

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 05:41 PM) If my math is right, Konerko is 18 for his last 39. Where the heck did we get the opinion he was struggling? It seemed like he was never getting a hit for the longest time. He still was excelling apparently.
