Is that last base hit the reason Gordon will be our 2b for 15 years? He'll always be around .250?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) Batting 2nd: 44 games .265/.315/.414 Batting 9th: 43 games .182/.250/.280 That big difference is Beckham's only hope. His supporters can always say he thrives in the 2 hole. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) As much as I complain about Becks, his defense is incredibly valuable and he is in the back of the order. I just wish he'd get his head on straight and at least improve his approach at the plate. He swings at some awful crap and really has a problem staying closed. Really really love his defense though and I see significant value in the fact that he's cost controlled and heady in the field (and on the paths). Great defensive player. Will he ever learn how to hit? He's just a horrible hitter. Somehow his hot streaks are so hot (but so rare) that they give him a batting average between .230 and .250 most of the season. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) not a chance his career is over after this season unless he gets injured. it's possible he may lose his starting spot but at the very least he will stick around MLB as a utility IF for quite some time if his glove remains solid He still has a ways to go before experiencing what Lillibridge is right now. Lilly is getting flipped from team to team as his hourglass is close to running out.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:49 AM) Dunn has 65 games to hit 20 more bombs to become the first Sox player to ever hit 50. Can he do it? Yes. He has the home run stroke this year. He is having a monster season.
-
The Sox big bats came through late tonight. Dunn, Paulie, Tank, etc. Kudos to Hawk also for not being afraid to rant on the umps again after a huge, horsecrap call.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 02:55 AM) Hawk b****es about the bad call again.......Please, please retire I thought Hawk's rant was great; I wonder if it'll go viral again, all over youtube etc.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 03:43 AM) I proposed to my friend, who is a brewers fan, a Weeks for beckham swap. What say you, soxtalk? Who is our second baseman of the future now? Beckham is a flop, so who gets the nod next year?

This would be a helluva fun game to be at. These fans are loving life.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 02:23 AM) Umpires really do suck at their job And they don't care. That play, folks, could cost us the postseason. What a HORRID call.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 03:07 AM) Sometimes Big Bang Theory. But tonight it was Hells Kitchen and Master Chef. I blocked that one rude new guy and it's been great not having to read his posts. Nobody responds to him so I don't have to see his posts in the quote box.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 03:03 AM) That pitch couldn't have been more in his wheelhouse to hit into the LF bullpen. Instead, he's doing that stupid windmill swing that has no chance but to pop it up to right. I have absolutely no problem with KW trying to trade him this week. Beckham can't hit. Trade him to an NL team so we can forget about him. If we trade him to an AL team, he'll just haunt us like so many former Sox do. I thought Beckham would be a star. He can't hit. The only way I'm for keeping Beckham is if his parents come to every game the rest of his career.
-
Boy the Twins stink. That shoulda been an easy DP.
-
Terrible offense. I'd be surprised if the Sox don't get to this guy by the end of the sixth inning, but I guess stranger things have happened. Why no home runs tonight? Lift and pull it over the fence, White Sox.
-
We need a home run by Tank. This pitcher sucks.
-
I bet Youk wishes he had that pitch back. It looked like he should have hammered it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 11:49 PM) If we're more worried about Jake Peavy's feelings than the welfare of the ballclub, someone's got to man up. I really don't think this is the case at all...and Jake has to realize it would be insane for us to pick up that option. He's getting paid like an ace, and he's been close to an ace this year, but gambling on it happening two years in a row, with how he's been a lot more hittable in the 2nd half, it's just not a logical move. I would rather have Youkilis, Floyd, AJ and Simon Castro rather than one Jake Peavy (maybe you can erase one of those names of Floyd/Youk/AJ), but the point still remains, if the only other option is Morel, Flowers and Peavy or Castro, Youk and AJ, no way do I think about retaining Jakemeister. You make sense. No way Sox will keep Peavy. Sox are way to cheap to do that. I don't know why they'd give up any young pieces in a deal that involves Greinke as well. Odds are very low that Zach will pick Chicago as his destination in free agency. No way Sox are going to give him a long term deal for enough money to get a contract done.
-
Poor AJ. I wouldn't expect Flowers to do much the first 3-4 games in the lineup. He has to be full of rust. He plays so little.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) This is yet another heightened story that falls under Occam's razor IMO (which basically says that when deciding between two possibilities, the one which is simplest or requires the least amount of assumptions, is most likely the true explanation in your mind). Just waaaaaaay too many questions I have about it...but yet everyone is just dismissing it as an Honor's student that went berserk and went on a killing spree due to the ease and availability of weapons. So when the credits were starting he had enough time to prop open a one way unlocking door, dress complete from head to toe in kevlar and reenter. I'd like to hear more of the timeline personally. Also heard people interviewed who were there they thought there was more than one person. I'd also like learn more about tracing the money for him to purchase around probably all these weapons and gear (not cheap by any means). Just tons of questions. And yet the irony of this taking place just a week or so before a vote on the UN Arms Treaty...I'm really not buying this crap and dismissing this as this type of person with no real history of anything goes on a killing rampage to this extent and in the manor to which he carried it out. Interesting theories. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Greg, I'm guessing you've never stared down a guy who's likely packing. It's not exactly a moment where you feel in control and ready to hulk out. Even though I'm from this coddled generation, I've had that. And a gun scare at my high school. Got followed in school (without being told) by a vice principal because they were pretty sure I was going to get assaulted amidst racial tensions in the town (black superintendent stole district funds, my dad was school board pres.) But yeah, that first example was when a gang threatened to shoot up my friend's house because of s*** his brother did. I had a baseball and a few sharp rocks. Wow u are bad to the bone. Just kidding. That's serious stuff. Glad you were safe.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) i rather get someone else than someone who is going to leave after the year and doesnt like pitching at the cell Me too. Greinke is as flaky as they come. I'd rather pass and try to sign him in free agency and do without him this year. Talk about a rental ... if he doesn't like it here he won't for a second reconsider staying with the Sox. He's one very very weird dude. At least if he signs as a free agent you know he wants to be here.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) oh my goodness. greg, have you seen or read any of the witness statements? They all wanted to GET THE f*** OUT. Not get the f*** out and then chase a guy that had just sprayed the place with gunfire. This was a full-blown military-type style assault. You're in a ways criticizing the survivors for not going after the guy (despite the fact the cops were on the scene very quickly anyway). I am filled with rage for this guy. I want to beat the hell out of him. If that makes me a bad person, so be it. I for one do not take the worst massacre of this kind lightly. I am still furious and full of rage at this piece of s***. Sorry if you guys do not have the same level of anger as I do. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 05:32 PM) Luckily, Greg wasn't close to field or he might have attacked Mr. Cub after the Konerko beaning and we would have had another Ligue Jr. incident. That also angered me as I felt they purposely hit Paulie in the head.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) You're not feeling any rage at that moment. Your main objective is to survive. If your whole life is your 6 year old daughter and she is dead and you have a chance to get at the piece of s*** who ruined her life and your life, you might risk your own life to beat the tar out of the perpetrator.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) Nobody knew what his hair color was until he surrendered to the cops. If my 6-year old kid gets shot, I'm staying with him/her or trying to get him/her away from the scene or some help. I'm not morphing into the incredible hulk to chase down some guy with that type of firepower. I pray you are never victim of a horrendous crime if you've never been held up. There can be intense rage. If you witnessed murder on that night, who knows how you'd react? This guy was crazy enough to do what he did. A victim might just flake out as well and want to punish this lowest form of human being. I take pleasure in knowing this man will rot in a cell 23 of 24 hours of a day the rest of his life. I'm OK now with him not getting the death penalty. Solitary confinement for a nerd like this who prolly lives on the computer will be awesome.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 03:40 PM) That's just not at all realistic. If you were in that theater and fortunate enough to have survived, you're going get as far away from the scene as possible. Not to mention that nobody knew what the hell the guy looked like anyway. Multiple witnesses said the guy straight up looked like he was a SWAT officer. He had orange hair. I think you might be full of rage if your 6 year old child was killed by this bastard.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) I'm County, and on patrol now. I live in the city. Crime is always around, not sure how to answer that. I wish you hadn't told us you were a cop. Suddenly I'm scared of you. Police frighten me, even friendly ones.
-
Milk, what kind of police officer are you? Do you drive a squad car daily? Or do u do investigations or what? Is Chicago a horrific place to live right now crime wise? I read about all the murders. Is working the West side and Southwest side of town amazingly dangerous? Also, what are the rules as far as you giving a driver a break on a speeding ticket? Are you surprised the cop here did not ticket me for going 82 in a 70 after the 14 inning Royals game the other night? I pulled over right away and was polite and told him I thought it was a 75 zone, which I did, and he checked my record and told me he saved me 200 bucks by not giving me a ticket. The economy being the way it is, I'd figure all cops would be encouraged to write tickets of people like me going 12 over.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) lol. greg, the guy had an assault rifle, a 12 gauge shotgun and a glock. Ain't no civilian goin' nowhere near his ass. Yeah but if he killed one of your loved ones and you saw him unarmed you might definitely want to take your chances and rough the bastard up. I think real rage might take over as it should.
