QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) Those that call for Gordon Beckham's release/trade need to step up and tell the rest iof us who is going to take over at 2B. Don't give me the "we can get by with Oh-Daewg or Escobar" either cause we can't afford going backwards as far as offense. There aren't many real good trade possibilities out there either that I am aware of. You need to replace him with someone of better quality, if you call for his trade. And I mean better as equal to is not acceptable to a winning club. You need to upgrade. Gordon Beckham was rushed to the majors period. He has shown improvementh in his offense and then falls back. My guess is he is his own worse critic. He will bring it around I think because he works hard at it. All reports support he works hard at improving. He is better than average - much better - defensively. Good defense can make up for astruggling bat. I know Hudson has a horrible batting average, but I think we could get by with him at second the rest of the year. Could he suck it up and hit .240 like Gordon? If we could get a good pitcher in a deal for Gordon and two bad prospects, I'd be all for letting Hudson play second. Or Lilly. Wait ... Lilly is gawn.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) It's easy to say it, tougher to implement it. We need to see how the hell they do this if they are baserunners. There's still going to be a ton of umpire judgment in placing them, and people will get pissed with that too. I just hope they make the calls quickly. Baseball can be long enough.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 08:17 PM) Greg, I love your new posting style, seriously. You mean not doing the haiku format? Or expressing my outrage for that punk who killed 12 people in Colorado? Or not mentioning Oz as much?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 08:35 PM) Humber is worse than mediocre. He really is. While I agree Kenny is going to aim high, he'll also get somebody to replace Humber if that's all he can get. Humber is so bad right now we have zero chance in Saturday's game. Zero. I love the posts on this thread. I've been reading them the last 10 minutes. The Greinke talk has died down but the bottom line after reading the posts is he's here for 2 months. That's it. No way he is going to re-sign with the Sox. Who cares how good he is? You can't give up valuable pieces of the future for 10 starts. I will be furious if he trades Reed, Q and others for a rental. As far as Reed, I don't care if the Sox trade him for somebody that will remain a White Sox for at least 2 years. Just no rental.

Did you guys see that item on TMZ where the orange haired guy was playing dumb in jail, asking the guards why he was there? A guard said the guards were all laughing at him saying they didn't believe his act. Also the orange haired bastard was complaining about the food. LOL. I hope reality is settling in to the spoiled punk that his life is OVA as he knew it. No more nice dinners; no more fast food when you need a Taco Bell fix. No more sex with women. The man is 24. Think of all the things he's given up for his stupid little 10-minute killing rampage. Ha ... get used to the lousy food, Mr. Orange Haired Asshole. The televised court hearings should be funny in the future as he does weird stuff trying to convince everybody he's insane. Ha. Lawyers should be ashamed of themselves if that's the behavior they condone trying to escape the death penalty. I'm starting to hope he just gets life in jail. This guy is 24 and it'll dawn on him pretty damn soon the things he gave up for his cowardly act of violence.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) There was the one game where he had to run to the locker room in the first half so he didn't poop his pants. Is this true? QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) You could just shorten that to "in life, money comes first." It explains everything. Ain't that the truth. Everything has always revolved around money and it's getting worse if that's the right word every year. You can be the ugliest guy in the world and u got money you got a 10 for a girlfriend/wife. No doubt. Show the green in Vegas and you get the ROYAL treatment. Run out of the green and unable to get some more? Bum treatment. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) I hope Penn St never wins another football game. I will root against them in every game moving forward year in and year out. The whole "these players didn't do anything" is out the window because they are essentially embracing the stupid ass 'us against the world mentality' and using child rape as a rallying cry to 'prove haters wrong.' Clueless, all of you. Good post. If the players decide to not transfer for whatever reason, I guess they should just shut up and use whatever rallying cries they have behind closed doors.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:09 PM) Many owners are. Bud Selig promised that the Brewers would be winners if they got a new stadium. They are good at fleecing the community into using tax payer dollars to build stadiums. Owners don't build them because they know they are bad investments. Good point. As OK as the Cell is, I don't think anybody would complain if the Sox built some amazing stadium somewhere else.

Man baseball changes its rules quickly. Does this go into effect now?

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 12:43 AM) Gordon is a valuable guy to have on a team as the primary backup infielder. He can play plus defense at three positions and can step in as an experienced starter in case of injury. Plus he's still cheap. This is probably the most accurate post of the thread. And the Alex Gordon comparisons will probably keep him in the league for some time to come. For some reason I see him eventually being a Brewer or Baltimore Oriole.
-
If Jerry really wants two teams contracted and baseball agreed, there would be a lot of candidates from that list. There are some teams not trying very hard right now. I'm afraid the Royals probably would be at the top of the contraction list.
-
If you are the Royals, do you fire Yost?

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 05:04 AM) Darn seems less positive then your previous info. I really want this to happen. But it's not the end of the world, if we don't land him. Here's how I see it shaking out: LA Dodgers- get Matt Garza For Zach Lee and Spects Braves- get Dempster after all- for Delgado or a lesser package Texas- shocks the world again and bring back An old friend Mr. Lee for their prized third basemen Olt since Phil really needs a 3B plus Spects. Whitesox- Land Grienke for Floyd+Beckham+ 2 lower Spects for Grienke+ Weeks + K Rod or Loe Josh Johnson stays put How old is Weeks? I actually could envision Beckham playing for Milwaukee.

That Passon story was pretty eye-opening. I didn't realize Loria and that team president were that bad. WOW. This is the first time I am thinking Ozzie may only last one year in Miami, cause that Miami owner is nuts. I love the line in the Passon story about how the players hated that speech Loria gave to the team. That he was laughed at behind his back. And Loria was all proud of the speech. I remember reading about that in the Miami Herald. Of course Miami lost that night he gave the speech I am pretty sure. Passon deserves an award for that story though. WOW, what reading.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) That, in a nutshell, is the problem with Ozzie. Everyone else wants a closer that can actually close. Yet he stubbornly refuses to change. Now the team in second-to-last place and are getting rid of their best players largely because of it. If I was a baseball manager I'd fail just like Ozzie, cause I'd go with the guy (for a long long time) that the GM and owner acquired for me in the offseason. I mean ultimately I think what Ozzie told Bell in that meeting is true: "We are not gonna win without you as closer." I find it pretty wild that the owner and GM wanted Bell demoted since they and their scouts wanted Bell in the first place. But I'd stick with the hi paid acquisition a long time and deal with the fallout in the offseason if the rotten closer didn't get me fired first. Somebody mentioned Ozzie to the Royals. That actually is just what KC needs. KC has a pathetic team and starting today (Chiefs training camp) will not again draw more than 20,000 for a game. KC could use a loudmouth like Ozzie to steal the headlines for a while. KC can't win anyway; might as well have the sideshow. KC is too cheap to pay for a name manager, however. Oh well, forgive my ramblings. GO SOX.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 04:00 AM) That may be, however I don't think many people would be just happy winning the central when we could possibly win the World Series. With Grienke that possibility is a whole lot more feasible when you need to shut down the offenses of LA, NYY, TX, Dodgers, Etc. Grienke is an ace and throwing ZG, Sale, Peavy, and Danks is down right scary. This move makes us WS contenders not AL Central contenders like we are now. I love this team and am not doubting. But when you have a chance to get a guy like ZG for a run with the team we have, you take the chance and worry about next year next year. These chances come rarely. Once in 95 years to be exact. True, but even with Zach there is absolutely no guarantee we'll make the playoffs. Before the Minnie series, the offense was putrid again. Still have some bullpen uncertainty and on and on. I mean with Zach the playoff rotation does look great, but getting there? That's the problem even with Zach. It's not worth the gamble for rental Zach. Like somebody said, Q has been as good as Zach so far this year. Makes no sense to include Q in a deal for Z.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:35 PM) Sox fans must be still spoiled with the 2005 World Series if they are willing to pass on this golden opportunity because they don't want to sell the farm. Greinke is a difference maker at the top of the rotation. Does it guarantee a World Series, no, but neither does hanging on to Viciedo, Reed, or Quintana. All this talk about this package is too much, or that package is too much because it involves one or two of those three is in my opinion nonsense. Giving up Q would defeat the purpose of adding Greinke. The fact there is NO CHANCE to sign him for the future makes giving up Viciedo and Reed and 2 top minor leaguers a very stupid proposition. Cause if the gamble does not work and we do not make the playoffs, the team next year will be in very bad shape. Viciedo's bat is pretty important to this team's future. Reed is the current closer. Q looks like a decent starter who will eat a lot of innings maybe. The fact the Brewers want a lot means the Sox should not go there. In my mind, it would be tough to be a GM to trade some of the organization's best prospects for 10 starts. Let's say he's blah in two of the starts and great in the other eight? He gets no run support in two of those eight. So he wins six games for us. Yes, he could be pivotal IF we make the playoffs. This is why KW gets paid the big bucks, to make decisions like this. I'd prefer trading a couple prospects to the twins for Liriano and have Coop fix him or send the Marlins players for JOhnson.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) Did you get that 3rd person speaking style from another Kansan, Bob Dole? Bob Dole approves this message.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) Damn, greg. You didn't know how to do that? That's almost as bad as you not knowing Jason is the site owner. I tend to not know who many posters are unless they've PMed me, like you. I do know fathom from longevity and caufield from longevity and posting late at night and I blocked caesar. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) Quintana, Jones and Saladino would be bearable if they could re-sign the guy. Otherwise it's a bad deal unless they win the WS lol. Great post. I agree.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:53 PM) Guillen can't handle a guy with any kind of ego. Ironic, isn't it. I'd bet money that Hanley has a huge year next year. Isn't Hanley the guy who cut his hand stupidly then wouldn't take the medicine so it got infected? He must be a piece of work.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) You must be so happy I taught you to reply in between the quotes in multi-quote posts yep. I was thinking about that the other day. Thanx.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:19 PM) I'm pretty sure ViciedO is going NO WHERE. He is producing and in my opinion untouchable. I also don't see Reed being moved. Viciedo can frustrate the hell out of me, but when he starts raking you think he might be a superstar hitter someday. Maybe KW is frustrated by his approach and thinks he'll never make it big. I'd be scared to deal him for a rental, though. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) a starting position player(viciedo, deaza, etc)under control for multiple years, at not a high salary is not worth giving up for a rental pitcher. no way. especially becuase greinke is not an ace(like verlander, weaver, cain, etc) hes really good but probably not even great Very true. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:25 PM) If I am Kenny, I'd give Minnesota a call about Liriano. It can't hurt. I'd go for that. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) so we would have(at some point) 4 lefties in the rotation..is that good or bad? That's bad. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) I just don't see the Sox EVER paying that much for a pitcher. I'd rather see a deal for someone else (Johnson, Buehrle, etc.). I want Johnson. Buehrle would be an awesome feel/good move as well. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) Honestly man, I can't say. I just get generalities no specifics. Guessing: Reed, Quintana & Saladino/Escobar - Greinke, cash? I don't know what benefit you get in giving up a guy who looks like he knows how to pitch (Q) for Greinke's 10 starts. I guess once again the Sox are trying to position themselves for a deep playoff run with Greinke, Sale, Peavy, Danks or Floyd being our postseason starters. Sox may feel it's worth the gamble. We could win a WS with that staff, however, the trick is getting there. Detroit after making that trade figures to run away and hide, which leaves us the Wild Card race and one game playoff if we make it.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:11 PM) Wow interesting!! Sounds to me like Viciedo and Reed are gone.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) Don't have names. Posted exactly what I was told last night. My feelings are that because of a variety of factors (1st place/Tigers trade/attendance spike...etc) KW is really going after it this year and wants it done yesterday. I do think there are fans that will be upset about who goes. Some very real concerns throughout this thread. Why don't the Sox try to get the starting pitcher the Marlins allegedly want to dump. Is it Johnson?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) Greg, do us a favor and stop. Talked tough my ass. He was referring to Mark's age. Plus, don't you love tough talk? No problem. I'll stop. You ask politely, Greg responds in turn.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:29 PM) Personally I think in any deal there will be a window to negotiate an extension, however I don't think it would hold up a deal on our end. KW is making this move (or any team for that matter) with every intention to re-sign Grienke. Kenny has wanted him for ages, him and Doc. I'm sure he has the consent of JR to attempt to resign him. The guy is young and has amazing stuff. If Ozzie was still the manager I don't think Grienke fits long term, but with the laid back baseball first clubhouse Robin has created Grienke will be a perfect fit. Any move made will be with an eye to the future as well as now. I also don't think a Grienke trade and ultimate extension means the end of Jake either. Jake has gotten paid, he has said it before. He will take a discount to stay with his "boys" loves Chicago, him and Dunner are buds. He will give us a sweetheart deal in the offseason, watch. Finally, if we get ZG all we have to do is win. We have a ton of home games in Aug and Sept and if Kenny pulls this fans will pack it in. If the team continues to win and sellout, make the playoffs and have a run in October, KW and JR will put that $ back into the club we have seen that. We are creating the right attitude and atmosphere as a Franchise people ate going to want to stick around. Win. That's it. Win. How many guys take a discount anyway? It rarely happens. Peavy will stay if nobody else is willing to give him huge bucks. As far as Greinke, to me it just doesn't make sense to deal major league players or an important minor leaguer for a guy that probably won't sign with you in the offseason. Like Fathom said, all that for 10 starts?
