Cease To Padres per Passan
Most posters here see Cease as 2022 version. Yes, 2023 Cease did happen. What is the average between 2 years? That is what Cease put up in 2021 and for his career. That is likely what Dylan Cease is realistically.

Cease To Padres per Passan
You can have too much bad or mediocre pitching. Many teams make mistakes in acquiring and wasting resources because "you can never have too much pitching". Many teams overpay for them. If you cannot acquire good pitching, then walk away. Overpaying for bad pitching set the teams back greatly.

One of the worst cliches in baseball: "You can never have too much pitching." Definite false statement. You can never have too much "good" pitching.

Eloy Trade Rumor Thread
It is good to look at the average of last 3 seasons of a player. This is true for Cease and Jimenez as well. A player can have a great season that cannot ever be repeated. "The ceiling" is a nice to speculate, but never can be looked at as a norm.

A Tale of Two Cities . . . MLB Expansion.
I really do not hear too much about MLB in Charlotte area. I live near Charlotte, too. Even here, more people talk about Nashville expansion. Rather odd.

Orioles agree on new lease...
Expansion team is.

That is not what happened. The Dodgers had an exclusive window for the extension. Tampa did not extend Glasnow. Ability for a trading team to extend a player will increase trade value. Take Corbin Burnes for an example. A team trading for him will give up more if he agrees to an extension with the team than not.

That is something that the Dodgers were comfortable with since they went for the trade. Both Cease and Glasnow had TJS, right? Pitchers in general can get injured any time. Not that it mattered, but I believe the Rays also sent $4 million to the Dodgers

It was reported on many outlet that Glasnow trade was contingent on extension. Without it, the deal was not going to happen. That is also the reason for a long delay in finalizing the deal with physical and such.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Glasnow got 5 year extension which means the Dodgers have 5 to 6 years of control. Unless Cease agrees to an extension, this is not a good comparison.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Mayo is a third baseman, and Basallo is a catcher who may be moved to 1B. I would think that the Orioles may trade one of them, not both. They will likely trade Jordan Westburg before Mayo and Mountcastle before Basallo. Both Westburg and Mountcastle have many years of control and established to a degree in the majors already.

Cease To Padres per Passan
There is no way that the Orioles will trade Mayo and Basallo for Cease. Like someone said, it is the most delusional time of the year. ?

Shane McClanahan may have difficulty coming back with his violent pitching motion. Dylan Cease had one as well, right?
-
Cease To Padres per Passan
It appears that coming back from second TJS surgery is much less common than the first.

Cease To Padres per Passan
As for Atlanta and pitching, didn't Spencer Strider already have had UCL surgery already? They seem to be lacking pitching depth.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Probably not a good comparison with 5 year extension. More comparable case would be Corbin Burnes if he agrees to 5 year extension. Not likely with Boras representing Burnes.

The Padres are looking to further reduce payroll. They will want younger players instead of arbitration eligible players.

There were some chatters last night that the Orioles are discussing trades for Bryan Woo from the Mariners and Braxton Garrett from the Marlins along with Dylan Cease. I have no idea how credible these were.
