2015 MLB Draft Thread - Discussion - DAY TWO

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) That wasn't a turn around. Luck isn't an abstract as far as I am concerned. You improve your odds of success based on how you handle things. When it comes to pitching the Sox are doing something better than almost any other team in baseball to keep churning out top of the rotation talent. Hencing making your own "luck" isn't really luck. It is skill. If it was luck as an abstract, it wouldn't keep happening, luck would even out. Just like it isn't luck that we aren't dveloping hitters. There are clear reason for our failures. Neither is luck in an abstract form. last time for me. how many times has sox's prospects developed...... lousy drafting, poor luck in not developing...etc... re.... bolded.....it is b/c of bad luck. the skills weren't there to take that person to the next level. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) Justin Garza is a name I like later on today. JR at Fullerton who has been a horse for 2.5 years, however, he got hurt late this season and needed Tommy John. Would have been a top 4 round pick but now a guy you might get later on and be able to build up. Small built but good stuff and some upside. Might profile more longer term as a very good reliever, but has the repetoire of pitches to be a successful starter with above avg FB / Ch / Slider. description sounds like Jace Fry. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) You make your own luck. I am not dismissing Sale, Quintana, Rodon, and company as luck. now you are double talking. my head is spinning on your turn around. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) You are just making stuff up now. not really, according to you, it is not luck so by default it is skills, so every pitcher is a success, b/c of the skills set of the sox. simple logic chaos. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) I know you have done a lot of research on this draft. What are some names you think could pop up for the Sox in the fourth round? quite of few, but my problem is i don't know if he value of the player is where experts say they should. look at David thompson 3b, Miami, all except for 1 mock had him going in the comp round of the 1 round. now, in round 3, he is still on undrafted. i already mention some hitters earlier in this post, Mitchell Nau - c George Iskenderian Sean Trent, i really like this navy kid, i am just unsure of his military commitment. kep brown or something. there is 1 player i am very intrigue about is c j hinzo something or another. he was suppose to have been a potential first rounder and they fell apart. my question is why??? too much pressure?? can he be fixed?? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) The Sox can draft and develop pitchers pretty well. I call that a skill. They suck at hitters. I call that a failure. then there is no luck what so ever, uh. so every pitcher they drafted is a certified success. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) That isn't a consistent line of thought at all. yes it is, how many times have posters criticized KW???? this system is at what state b/c of KW?? how many successful draft picks been under KW???? have you forgotten all this?? -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) I dont think it's out of reason to believe that the Sox may pursue Matt Wieters this offseason. Unless they can trade for a catcher, they have absolutely nothing in the system that can replace Tyler Flowers which is pretty scary. nice. for what i am about to write, do not take it personally. but here is the wild card, at what salary and the overall salary expense that sox have allotted. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) If this is luck, then you have to classify the lack of bats coming out of our system as "bad luck". I am not willing to do that either. if this isn't luck, what would you describe it. Skills in drafting. -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) I think Hahn has the organization in a pretty good place personally. He has a good young nucleus at the major league level in Sale, Rodon, Abreu, Q, Avi, and Eaton with some actual legit depth coming in the minors. You could have potentially two first round picks in next years draft and have relatively large salaries coming off the books in Samardzija, Danks, Alexei, and LaRoche in the next two seasons. There will be good offensive options in free agency, Sox just need to spend their money wisely. They definitely need to address C and 3B ASAP though in my opinion. I had pretty high expectations for this team this season and they have fallen well short, but that was largely me being unrealistic about the state of the franchise. I think the arrow is pointed up, I just hope they can make it count while Sale, Q, Abreu, etc. are cheap. excellent and a voice of reason. i am at a dilemma at this point. i was a huge proponent of this season and this team. while i ranked on several points, i just don't know. those holes you mention, needs to be address, so should we trade off, let say, Shark, to look for those prospects. how else would they be address? re bold, is it of your opinion that the sox address it via FA's? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) They weren't lucky at all. They scouted and developed a guy that many were afraid was either destined to be a reliever, or would have major arm surgery by now into one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. That isn't luck. oh pls.... in this area, they were lucky for many reasons. all the reasons came and worked. they were able to sign him and he fully developed as hope...... this is all luck. pls look as it was a subjective point of view. -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) Sox need just better all-around baseball players. Guys that can hit .270 and get on base at a .330-.340 clip, but play good defense and run the bases intelligently. let me also add, you have a great point, but before, ahhh before the Hahn era, the sox has no depth at the hitter pos in the system. i believe with Hahn that will change. but at this time, the sox are really at a crossroad, the sox has to find a way to address the holes the system has. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:29 PM) For example, if you can get Fulmer to take $3 million, you can make about a million dollar offer to the 4th round pick, even if you save no money is rounds 5-10. with the allotted slot money, at this point, i have no freaking idea what to think. i am so totally lost in what to do. i guess the vacant spots in the second round and third round, threw me for a loop. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) Ours is going to cost us only $46 million over the next four years. That won't even get you two years of Lester. the sox were extremely lucky in drafting the #1 pitcher in Sale and signed him to an extension. now add the fact that the sox has the potential to a full set of sp's, and at this point, it maybe too early, but i don't really see a weak link. but the sox needs hitters to really set up the team with the other half of what a team needs, again hitters. so do the sox sacrifice pitchers to fill in other area of needs, who is to say, the sox will be able to get their #1 wish list. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) Hoefully Davidsoin can get it figured out. He is leading Charlotte in HR's ad RBI's and of course in K's. Needs to make more contact or be more patient at the plate. I don't know what is the main reason for so many K's. Batting average is low and has been since we got him from AZ. Is his defense better than Gillaspie? i am trying to figure this out.... mathematically, can he hit enuf to make the majors???

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) And they had to spend $155 million for one SP. but if that was the only payment they needed to make, that is not a bad payment. in the playoff, every team needs a #1 starter. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) Brian Malone @ChiCityBrian 1h1 hour ago Most G with 12+ strikeouts since 2012: 1. Sale, 13 2. Darvish, 8 3. Hernandez, 7 3. Kluber 7 3. Scherzer, 7 6. Verlander, 6 6. Price, 6 ummmm price.... interesting.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) If you have pitching, you can trade for hitting. Ask Avi Garcia and Adam Eaton. now, i can envision other teams asking for an overpayment. the sox has a nice set of sp's in depth and supply. but still, it is good to develop your own positional depth..... look at the freaking norhtside and their pos players. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) With the Sox picking Fulmer and the collection of arms the Sox have, I really hope they get after some hitters. At some point, this organization will have to develop some hitting. i totally agree, at this point, some prep arms maybe the the better route. but this systems needs positional players, no matter what. -
QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) I was sitting 15th row between the plate and the Sox dugout last night. This was goddamn amazing to see in person. And to think, so many Sox fans missed it for a hockey game. but the hawks are in the stanley cup finals. way different hype.
