  1. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) Yeah, sure. He trusts a guy as his bench coach who doesn't even have the sense to pinch hit Soto OR Boni vs. LHRP, instead staying with Flowers and Sanchez (who while being a switch "hitter" ostensibly, has never hit lefties well) What does that say about the staff and their strategies? Also, replacing the struggling Melky in the two hole with Lexi is such a typical treading water move for this crew. Putting a terrible OBP guy in that position because of some vague idea of "bat handling" or whatever it is they're thinking, is just plain stupid, again. Avi should have been moved to the two hole - that's what Maddon and most good modern managers would do in this situation. The fundamental truth is you score runs by bunching up your hits, not by spreading them out. Do our guys even get this? and you are nitpicking on little items to make a point. the other point is, except for a couple of players, hitting, this whole team is struggling.
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) The only way it makes sense to trade Q is if the Sox were to get a package ( for example) starting with McCullers from Houston. Given Q's cheap contract, it might raise Houston's eyebrow despite not wanting to trade McCullers. That said, I still stand behind a front three of Sale, Rodon and Q for years to come and at some point hopefully Fulmer as well. The Sox are in a position where a team would really have to WOW the Sox in order to obtain Q or the Sox just give them the finger ( not literally). but the sox needs 2 key prospects from Hou. cat and 3b and as you said, the team talking to chi, will really need to wow them. but like anything, conversation on the sports forum is way different than talk in the FO. btw..... excellent post.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 05:34 PM) The White Sox have the worst average offense in MLB and 2nd worst defense in MLB over the last 10 seasons. This isn't working. nice one. excellent point. but how to fix this??
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) They would need an absolute haul to trade Quintana. It doesn't make sense. We've been over this ad nauseum. and the constant idea of signing Shark. the strength of the pitching is where the sox have some room to move.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) Quintana is one of the most valuable players is baseball. Unless we're acquiring a star C or 3B under an equally affordable deal, Jose won't be the the chip we'll need to move. IMO, a package of Danish/Montas, Hawkins, & say Jordan Guerrero would be incredibly attractive to a lot of teams in this day and age. A package like that should be able to land us a very nice upgrade at C or 3B with multiple years of team control. while i see what you are saying, and i will not dispute you in this scenario. however, some teams with some key prospects are also in the playoff hunt. those teams want to add a missing element to their team, carrying them, hopefully deeper in the playoff. again, those team have what the sox needs, prospects who are at least 1 yr away at a position that the sox needs. i don't think they would settle for a pkg of prospects who are several yrs away to help them. they want and need that help now.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) We'll have to dive into our minor league system to upgrade the offense. Let's say you can resign Shark to a 5 year extension, you'd essentially have him, Sale, Quintana, & Rodon until control for the next four years (five or more for everyone but Sale). All we would really need is a #5 starter for the foreseeable future, plus some depth in case of injury. Between Danks, Erik Johnson, Beck, and maybe even Junior Guerra we should be able to have that spot covered for 2016. With Fulmer likely to be a fast mover, AA prospects like Danish & Montas become very tradable assets right now. One of them combined with one of our better position prospects (anyone not named Anderson) and a solid secondary arm might be able to land you a nice upgrade at C or 3B with multiple years of team control. re - Shark, based on his performance this yr, there is no way i would sign him, unless he comes in at 15 mil. a yr. to max the rtn, esp for a major league ready cat and or 3b, some one like Q is going to be needed to be traded. btw, i am not advocating this to be done, i am pointing out what will be needed to get it done.
  7. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) Not sure if they have signed or have agreements with their top 10 picks before signing Sangri and Comito. It's interesting that they went overslot with them before reports of the top 10 pick signing came out. They also must expect Fulmer to sign for slot or less, much different than the Rodon situation last year. it also goes down to the adviser / agent.
  8. the offense yesterday was soooo ummm morbid. i wonder it they even had a pulse. now, RV was not here, he didn't make the lineup, so, any more harsh notes on RV and is lack of managing skills??
  9. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) You are assuming they can afford to sign Shark then. But again, if you don't trade pitching , how wll you upgrade the offense. If this pitching staff/bullpen finishes .500 or less, unless the Sox spend on signing Shark plus a few FA position players, you will be in the same position next year. I am not sure you are going to see the payroll take another big jump next year if this team does not make the playoffs. excellent post. you know, Danks pitched a good game yesterday. too bad the bats didn't wake the f~~~ up.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 13, 2015 -> 04:50 AM) They aren't going to get enough value for Shark to trade him. They have 4 good starters and a good bullpen. They need offense and they will definitely try to compete next year. They won't be trading any of their newly added players. The only option is to upgrade the offense and try to get into the playoffs. They have a chance if they can get in with their pitching. but the sox will need to trade someone in order to get the players needed to fill in those holes. as much as i hate this, someone from the pitching staff will be needed to get those missing pieces. now comes the question of who to trade.
  11. well, that will add to the overall depth of the system. all that signed except for 2 were college players. i just hope the sox finds some surprise prospects.
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Rutherford is my favorite guy in this draft, followed by Riley Pint, Jason Groome and Puk re pulk, he did so many good things that is not in the game recap or box scores. very advance for his age, pretty much like the freshman sp from lsu. very compose.
  13. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 07:56 PM) #WhiteSox Rick Hahn believes Carson Fulmer could 'handle expedited path' to majors: http://t.co/ebdfbk0J6Q http://t.co/FtKoSzpuTH https://twitter.com/CSNChicago/status/609421022668955648 just like EJ.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Basically, he said Robin offered to fly overnight from LA (or whatever) to St. Pete, manage Sunday, and fly to Pittsburgh with the team. Rick told him that was too much, enjoy his time off, and join the team on Monday in Pittsburgh refreshed. Pretty simple decision. Moving on... excellent find.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) I think he should publicly post his vacation schedule so that we can all analyze it.
  16. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) Amazing. You can't make some of this stuff up. Hopefully there won't be anyone wearing Sox gear protesting the graduation. that is there is some radical sox fan out west.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) Lol. I fail to see a legitimate comparison between a working class father that works 9-5 five days a week ( granted some work longer hours) and a baseball father that works all hours of the day 5-7 days a week from February into October plus what they do in the off season. Also. The working class father has the luxury of seeing his family every day and is not separated by hundreds/thousands of miles. Apple meet orange, orange say hello to apple. I'm really curious as to how many pages this thread will be by Sunday evening. this is funny.... i my weird way of thinking, i was expecting to see a "MR" in front of each name sitting around a table in a dinner.
  18. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) Well it was certainly a summer that money needed to be spent. I simply think we went the wrong way about it, buying players who have less long-term upside with little resale value if things go south. I would have spent money, just not in the same way. I've said I would not have made the Samardzija trade, so I now have Semien who I start at second, and Phegley who can platoon catch (as well as Ravelo who I believe can be a major league first baseman). I said I would have gone after Miguel Montero, who was picked up for a 40 future value rated prospect as well as a prospect not rated yet by Fangraphs, so I give up a little more than that, something like Hawkins/Thompson. I said I would have picked up Wandy Rodriguez off waivers. I would have outbid the Giants for Nori Aoki. I would have gone after Brandon McCarthy. I would have gone after Jason Hammel. Danks to the pen. I would have gone after Luke Hochevar. I would have seriously considered Headley, but apparently he only wanted the Yankees, so I would have gone for Jung-ho Kang and platooned him with Gillaspie. I go after Seth Smith and give up a little more than Maurer to do it. I DH Avi. Rotation: Sale Quintana McCarthy (blew out his arm, but maybe that doesn't happen here, if it does I'd promote from within) Hammel Rodriguez That's to start the year, and I have big depth (I love starting pitching depth) with Rodon, Junior Guerra, E.Johnson and my boy Surkamp as next in line to come up. Starting: Eaton CF Semien 2B Abreu 1B Smith LF Garcia DH Kang/Gillaspie platoon 3B Aoki RF Montero/Phegley platoon C Ramirez SS Bullpen: Danks Petricka Putnam Whichever 2 of Rodon/Guerra/Surkamp that are not in rotation Hochevar I believe I spend about 100 million in this scenario, accounting for overbidding other team, as well as assuming the remaining 40 million on Montero's contact. I think it results in a much better team (bar the bullpen) with players that can more easily be flipped if things go south. i can see that you thought long and hard on this, but Hammels and Brandon..... you lost me. now you do not go that Robertson. nah... no offense.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 01:17 AM) http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...?P=yoan-moncada The key point is differentiating the top Cuban talent from the pretenders. Time will tell how good guys like Soler, Rusney Castillo, Moncada and Yasmany Tomas are...for awhile there, teams like the Cubs were just throwing money at any Cuban (I can't remember the soft-tossing lefty they overvalued, Concepcion maybe?) While Moncada wasn't expected to make it to the majors this season, all of the scouts were projecting something like A-Rod Jr., and he's not even putting up an 800 OPS in Low A whereas A-Rod and Harper were in the majors before that (and that's not even considering concerns about his defense and eventual position). However, if there's ONE thing I am NOT worried about, it's our organization being able to make correct assessments on this particular nation's players. We missed with Viciedo, but hit it big with Contreras, Alexei and Abreu. you just nailed what i was thinking last nite on him. that was until i remembered how young he is. i am still advocating for an instant help in the cuban players..... look to Japan. there are some great players who could play for 2 or 3 yrs. just enuf to help the sox and give the minors time to fully develop.
  20. i like A.J. Puk - sp tx a+m. alot. i also like Zak Collin - 1b and Bobby Dalbec - 1b. there is 2 more, i can't remember right now. don't know if there were drafted or not. but these are my fav's. i got to see how the cape plays out.

    6/10 Games

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 05:33 AM) Mota is a full younger then any player we just picked in the entire 2015 draft. Of course he has a lot of growing to do. you made an excellent point. i was about to post something that i have a concern about, but now, i can look at it as a young player coming into his own. this can offset the lack of a #2 and #3 pick in the draft, plus get a advance, quality prospect in the system.
  22. ok, i want to say, i have been as critical on RV and the FO as anyone. but come on, in my honest opinion, this complaining is just about RV bashing as it could get. i feel as he is in a position, with some of the fans on soxtalk, that it is damn if you do, damn if you don't. everyone has a right for an opinion. this is mine.
  23. i do not think a. tor would do and b. i don't think chi will do it. remember, looking at the thread on may 1 team results, chi is still in the thick of it. why do any trade.
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) Yes, but July 2nd guys are a crapshoot. Many of the guys that will get the largest bonuses will never advance beyond AA and an equal share of guys that sign for less than $250K will make the majors, there is just way to many variables in signing 15 and 16 year olds. Whereas the Cuban guys have quite a bit less volatility as they have performed for another 3-5 more seasons. They are the equivalent of the talent that is available in the draft, and while there is still a bust rate it is less so than that in the July 2 market. I would sacrifice signing some of those top guys in 2016 and 2017 if we can get the equivalent of 3 additional first round draft picks from Cuba in this class. i am in total agreement. the inherent risk of the young players being a bust, let alone many young players overall is greater than say several cuban players. the sox still needs those bodies in the system, to add depth and who knows, a certified prospect or 2 will develop and be taken into consideration. the theory of probability is in play here. i feel as the cubans coming out, has already been filtered.

    Alex Guerrero

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 05:35 AM) I'm pretty sure that Guerrero has a clause in his contract that allows him to become a free agent at the end of the year if he's traded. Makes him MUCH less valuable to whoever gets him. to me, a. give it a try and esp see if there is indeed a clause in it. b. i would, and i usually hate this kind of a pat on the back, leak it to the rumors page. this is kind of a show the fans the org hasn't given up. c. better yet announce it in a kind of interview the org been having with the media every few weeks. i still suspect the majority of the fans are still holding out hope of a turn around.
