yesterday, i watch "the secret in their eyes". it was with julia roberts and others. i really liked the movie and am impress with julia acting. she has gotten better as an actress. her real life husband is did the cinematography for the movie. lets put it this way, he really did no favors on getting the less glamours shots, the most unkempt shots, the beastly shots of julia roberts. it worked. about 1/2 into the film, i realize i was a spanish version of this movie with english subtitles. i believe it was an award for best foreign movie. well there was some difference, but it was, at least for me, well worth it. the spanish movie, watching and reading the english subs, esp when they do it fast..... well, i just don't know.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 04:23 AM) The Mets operate in mostly the same fashion. They play in New York City. The Cubs and Yankees exist. good point, but with the mets, their owner is really strap for money, per all news links and sporting links. yet, they went out spend to get key Fa's and they do have a nice looking minor league system. however, while they can operate in a rebuilding mode and still bring out the fans, i think the sox will not have that luxury.

QUOTE (glangon @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I think the 1st 16 games is generally a good indicator of whether the Sox will have a winning season or not. Lets look at what has happened since 2005 - Record in the 1st 16 games 2005 - 12-4 - Winning Season 2006 - 11-5 - Winning Season 2007 - 9-7 - Losing Season 2008 - 10-6 - Winning Season 2009 - 8-8 - Losing Season 2010 - 5-11 - Winning Season 2011 - 7-9 - Losing Season 2012 - 10-6 - Winning Season 2013 - 7-9 - Losing Season 2014 - 8-8 - Losing Season 2015 - 7-9 - Losing Season If you look at the above, apart from the anomaly of the 2010 season, if we have not went at least 10-6 in the opening 16 games, then we've went on to have a losing season. This season our opening 16 games are:- Oakland (road) 4 games. Cleveland (Home) 3 games. Minnesota (road) 3 games. Rays (road) 3 games. Angels (home) 3 games. So for these 16 games to start the season, where do you see us getting 10 wins or more? thanks for your hard work in assembling this info. for me, based on last yr fiasco of my predictions, i will refrain from any predictions ..... and cheer like a mad man.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 03:37 AM) I know nothing about him. I couldn't find any recent information on him either. Found some stuff from June of last year talking about how he is a free agent but nothing since. I looked him up on BR and he hasn't played since 2013, well, he did have 1 AB in 2014. I'm serious. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=heredi001gui I do know that Yadiel Hernandez's workout is coming up on the 23rd. Regardless of what the Sox might do between now and then, I hope the Sox make a serious run at him. His small strike zone and good batting eye should help his transition to MLB. many thanks for that help. i appreciate it. yeah i know what you are saying, usually there is some sort of a write up on his profile and skills, esp on try out for teams or something. dang, i am just keeping my eyes and opinions open. again many thanks.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 05:27 AM) 7 goals, yikes. 4 points for 88 yeah, i was going to post something last nite at the end of the 2nd period about the game darling is having and the score. but hell, i didn't want to jinx the team and darling. great game all around, esp for darling. as good of performance kane had, i don't know, i really thought darling should have been #1 or at least #2 star. based on the goal against and the win. oh well.

QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 04:45 AM) What the Hawks have done is nothing short of incredible. The more it continues, the harder it becomes to complain about anything going on with that organization. We are fans of a franchise that literally 29 other teams would trade places with right now. It won't get better than this. and that is a great point, but it is against Tor.... just like anything, fans, esp me, will never be satisfied. but i guess that comes with being a fan and wanting the best all the time. unrealistic, yeah, but it is what it is. btw, as much as there has been a lot of chatter of players, org wanting to move, i still maintain, no - one will be willing to really help the hawks. bowman is really going to have his hands full. peace.

New scoreboard "will change game experience"

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 04:06 AM) By 2025, you won't be going to the stadium, it will be coming to you. man you got me thinking. what will baseball for the fans experience be like, in 2025???? -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 02:59 AM) That's exactly why the Sox ownership sucks. They charge so much for burgers, it drives the fans away, and then they don't have money to spend on players. If they lowered the price of burgers, they'd instantly become a 100 win team. not the burgers the italian sausage .... in the old park, right behind 3b in the vending area, great sausage .... when the new park open... none. i was royally pissed about that.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 02:57 AM) nice research.... when was the baseball strike???? ok i google it, the strike was in the 94-95 season. i gave up my season tickets at the strike. i may be wrong, but i believe many around blame the owners for the strike or something like that. or was it the sox fans blame the sox owners. pls forgive, but my memory is kind of fuzzy on this fact.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 02:53 AM) And that would be relevant if the White Sox had also opened a beautiful new stadium in 2010. Minnesota averaged 27,408 last year when they had a playoff competitive, winning team for the entire season. In 2014, when they were terrible and had no young stars like Sano and Buxton coming up, 27,785. Horrible fans, right? They finally have a winning team after 4 years of rebuilding and attendance actually declined. The White Sox averaged roughly 33,000 per game the first five years of their new stadium, despite all the issues with the new facility. In year four, they were still averaging over 32000 per game. Year Five....1995....22,358 despite being one of the best teams in baseball. Now why did that happen? nice research.... when was the baseball strike????

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 02:49 AM) LMAO. The guy who started a thread last year how he was going to change allegiances because the team didn't win enough. He decided not to because he would rather complain, so in essence he would rather complain about a team than have them win. And this is one who refers to someone else as being childish. OK. dang, i thought i was the one who complained the most about the sox not doing enuf.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 03:33 AM) The Twins went through a total rebuild and have outdrawn the White Sox 7 years in a row . that is relatively easy to do, when they are the only game in town. but the sox fans will not support a half ass effort from the owners. not esp when many fans, maybe outside soxtalk, believes the owners are not investing their money wisely into the team. the fans needs to see the investment on the field. visual improvement.....

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 03:22 AM) They ARE a large market team - they play in the city of Chicago. They don't operate as a large market team because they haven't ever figured out how to win in a sustainable fashion in order to build up this revenue base of which you speak. i think this is the important part of your counter, regardless what anyone has to say. they, the owners want to max their profit and yet, can't field the necessary personnel to run the team, to keep them, the team in the running for the playoff. just bad management decisions from the very top. however that is in the past, i like what hahn as done so far and hope the owners will give him what is needed to finish fixing this team and org.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) Well, I guess I was wrong. That's what I get for giving Robin the benefit of the doubt, but you must be right, he kept putting him in there at the DH spot anyway. You must be right, just another example of him failing to understand his players. with the team that is being assemble, i really hope that RV is up to the job of managing this team.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) Thought I would bump this in an effort to spare the Desmond thread. Hahn has made it clear the Sox are looking for another bat and likely an outfield bat. Since the last post in this thread it sounds as though the Sox have moved on or couldn't work something out for outfielders such as Fowler, Puig and Ethier. Doesn't sound like Gardner is leaving the Yanks and nobody would be crazy enough to take on Ellsbury's contract so I think we can safely eliminate them. Kemp is a DH in need of an AL team with an open DH spot and it looks like those spots are filled. I like the idea of Markakis' bat in the 2 hole but from what I've been reading his arm and range has dropped off, and the Braves can keep Swisher and Bourn. Desmond Jennings and his bum knee scares me after some time to think about it. I'm still very curious as to what the Astros are going to do with their plethora of outfielders. Wouldn't mind trying to get one of Tucker, Marisnick or Aplin, though Tucker likely costs more than the Sox are willing to give up and its possible Marisnick is more valuable to Houston ( they love his D) than he would be to the Sox in a trade which leaves Aplin, who the Astros have no room for. I'm still all for the Austin Jackson idea and remain hopeful. Just trying to think of more options that could be available via trade. a really nice breakdown. great post. i wonder if the trade, that was thought of, could it be a possible maybe idea. i am still trying to imagine what the sox have, in assets to make the trade.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 07:13 PM) Why are you so concerned with what the Cubs attendance is? Who cares? b/c the topic was the sox will never have the most fans and will always be second best. the topic was, ok if that is the case, fix the team and the fans will come back out, maybe not enuf to ever beat the other team, but enuf to make the FO happy. fiscally speaking.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 06:21 PM) In what currency LDF? You are getting screwed. It should at most be 2-3K and more likely less than that. yeah i know. 3500 just to get the root canal and the rest is the so-called cosmetic cost.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 06:19 PM) What? Where do you go to the dentist? A root canal is usually about $900 and a crown $1500 or so. Even if you had it pulled and put in an implant it should have only cost $2500 to $3000. I think you got taken. in LA, if i now need to get my teeth fix, i need to drive to Houston. in LA the dentist are really jacking the people around. no lie. also, LA has at one time the highest medical cost... outside the pocket money for what is not covered by the insurance. so yeah, we all know we are taken. when i was working and not retired, i used to send my family to chi for medical care. this is the truth.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 07:03 PM) With the caliper of player that Jackson is, I don't think Boras is as big of a factor as he would be with higher caliper players. Not taking anything away from Jackson but overall, he's not an elite player so Boras can only do so much for Jackson. It's not like Hahn hasn't had dealings in the past with Boras so the possibility of signing Jackson does exist and especially since Jackson has such a small amount of interested teams to choose from. I think it's possible that Hahn is waiting out the market for Jackson like he did with Latos. Time will tell. I know the Sox are reportedly seeking a LH OF bat but I'm hoping the Sox are able to snatch Jackson up. His defense in CF would be a huge boost. dang, i forgot about that.... ref the bold. i was looking at him since the beginning of the off season as well as 2 team players.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) This is rather surprising and agree with others that say things must go right for the SOX to win 90 games. I definitely think it's possible though. as i have said, it is up to that fickle lady called lady luck. i still want to be so positive in my thoughts, as long as they finish.... well.... i leave that there.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) Sox won 72 games in 2007 and drew 2.7 million fans. Sounds like a good fanbase to me. enuf for 15th in the league. the northside team #6 and 3.2 mil. per espn. http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance/_/year/2007

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 05:43 PM) With Latos, I think it's more than just luck. I believe Hahn deserves some credit for knowing Latos' market based on Latos' reputation and injury concerns so Hahn did right by waiting out the market to get a potential steal. Patience was the key in the Sox signing Latos. Take Ian Kennedy for instance. That was a huge gamble by the Royals. If Kennedy under-performs, the Royals are screwed for the next five years. Anyway, back to Desmond. I've been searching Google all morning long and cannot find anything new on him. It looked as though last week his market picked up and now its silent once again. That's not to say things aren't happening, just weird nothing new has surfaced since late last week. Then again, this has been a bit of a weird off season. that is for dang sure. i remember in the latos thread, i said something like i really never want to play poker with hahn. i think that move, more than anything else got me stoke for this season. ref the bold, yeah i agree. make me wonder of the asking price.... with jackson, there will always be his agent as the the bump in the road for any negotiations.
