QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) Eh, I wouldn't mind this at the right price. I mean, what are the odds we actually use that comp pick to draft someone who becomes even half the player Upton is? believe me when i say it is not the comp pick i am concerns with, to be honest the comp pick for upton would be a great trade off. but will that move limit all other move b/c of the so call 20 mil the FO stipulated before???

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) The moment you "hear" about what the White Sox may be doing, that means they very much won't be doing that. love it.... irony.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Hawk Harrelson and Bob Nightengale can't fault that logic.... so wasn't it the second one who said something about upton and the sox??
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) When they make a move or when they don't. That's when we know. so brilliant, why even post your mock anything if the only time is respond when to Sox FO does anything.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) They traded Neal Cotts for David Aardsma. That was the last time. and so their is a precedent of the 2 teams doing it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) Never, ever take what KW says to the media as the truth. then who do we listen too when some news comes from the sox FO??? at what point to we choice to believe or not???

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) When it comes to lack of funds, I dispute everything he says. There is an extensive track record showing he isn't being straight. you are preaching to the choir on ref to funds and profit the sox makes. but having that money or the ability to spend it as we as fans sees it id one things, for the sox org to do it is another.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) Because this is 'Merica where we are free to express our opinions on topics in which two Baseball teams that have needs actually match up on paper. Also because we're bored and need something to talk about. and it is still not a far fetch idea. the sox and the northside have traded in the past.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) KW also said they had no money and they traded for Peavy and claimed Rios. He said no funds and they claimed Manny, he said no funds and they signed Dunn and brought back Paulie and AJP. If you listened to KW talk finances and he was actually believable,, Greensox would have his dream team of mediocre at best prospects manning every position. you may very well be right, but the point is, he is the only one talking from the FO and he has the eyes and ears of the owner, you can not dispute what he says unless there is some other inside source. i am using the numbers that was spell out by the sox org, and within those parameters i am dealing with.... no what if and well that is not what he meant.... \

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) I have been one of the biggest detractors to giving up draft picks of any kind. I feel like if they were going to do this they should have just traded Shark. I am draft fan and some of it is me selfishly wanting to be entertained on draft night. If the White Sox gave up a pick in the 20's for Ian Desmond or Daniel Murphy I'd be furious. I don't think anyone should be upset for doing it for Upton though. Upton was a 3.6 WAR player last year playing in the Cavernous PetCo Park. He would immediately upgrade the White Sox biggest area of need (RF) with a 28 power bat. If they are willing to spend, he's probably the guy. The benefits to having the draft pick are more related to flexibility in my opinion than the actual player taken. The player taken with the 25th pick in the draft will probably never be as good as Upton. It's not that simple though. If the Sox have 3 picks on the first night of June's draft, I'll be happy about it. If Justin Upton is the White Sox starting RF on Opening Day though, I'd be happy about that too. you make a great point. if upton is signed, would the sox loose the 2nd rounder instead of their comp pick??

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Why would they do nothing else? They are looking for infielders, for starting and relief pitchers, now free agent OF which is a surprise, but probably the easiest way to get a bigger offensive upgrade. They knew they were still short last year and said they weren't where they wanted to be even when we all were excited about thei chances. They will do what they can. They see the same things we see on the field, and even more things we do not. i am taking the interview that said the the sox will only spend about 20 mil. i do not know who said, but it was 2 weeks ago, didn't kw say that?? but that is my point, why spend the whole chunk of what the sox have said they will spend on 1 player when there are holes. now i am taking this 20 mil literally. add the fa's of catching to upton salary and that is it. now the question again is why??? think outside the box, look at the big picture, why would they only do that and maybe nothing else???

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) Yep, no one here has any idea what our payroll will be next year, but the Upton rumor suggests it might be a lot higher than most people here are expecting. Also, for those people against signing Upton because of the QO, how do you expect to add an impact otherwise? We don't any prospects in the system that are even close to being options and trade candidates are going to cost a lot more than a draft pick. I get it sucks to lose the pick, but from a talent perspective, it's probably one of the cheaper ways to add an impact bat. the word impact is really subjective to what many are expecting per their definition. but the answer is yes with some smart trading.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) I think they have more money to play with than a lot of people want to assume. Some current players are getting increases, but between the 2 catchers signing and the players who are now off the books, Samedzija, Alexei, Beckham. Soto, Bonafacio, Keppinger, Noeisi, Guerra, Flowers they are at about -$30 million from last year before those increases. When they acquired Samardzija, they wanted to sign him long term, so they had to have funds available. I don't know why you and at least one other poster assumes no way over $120 million. They were at $119 last year, and payroll usually goes up. i understand what you are saying. i have always said, esp in some of my recent post, now my ideas goes back to playoff time, the sox have around 90 mil in current payroll, add 10 mil for bonuses and such... 100 mil. that is what they have to play with, per the sox FO of only spending 20 mil now. i have always have maintain the sox can go to 140-16o and i made a post on those numbers. again i still haven't chg my positions, even with some of the salary being given out to price and zach greinke or something like that. now many are seeing how trading a Q can help. either way, does the sox have that money.... yes, will they spend that kind of money .... no. now my question that is still unanswered from you, why would you imagine the sox spend that kind of money and do maybe nothing else???? for what purpose???

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) I would imagine that Dodgers would be looking at Quintana. If I'm Rick Someone and the Dodgers won't pony up Seager then there's no deal they prob did and the dodgers hung up after hahn asked for seager plus.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) Numbers don't lie... ok i just thought it was a typo.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Wait a minute. You have been calling for the team to open its purse strings. Now if they do you are going to rant? Upton is obviously one of the better offensive players available. Still reasonably young. Isn't this the exact type of move you have been calling on the team to make? yes i have and i haven't step back from that. ... open the purse strings to do multiple transaction if they would be willing to go in the 140 mil salary. but that is not going to happen. they already mention 20 mil increase. now look at the reasoning on this rumor??? for what reason??? does this move fix all of the holes the sox have??? what resources will it take to go out and get a 3b if they do, after they sign upton??? the sox will not go anymore than 120 mil salary. so again, why spend all your allowance on this one move??

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) One thing is for sure. If we sign Upton, that will be it for our organization. He's so expensive it'll be the Sox FO risking it all thinking one power bat to go with Abreu is all we need. The signing will cripple our organization financially so it's a last-gasp type of signing. I'll say this. If we get Upton, we need to ONLY play LaRoche against righties. He's an automatic out vs. lefties. So when a righty pitches we got in order Melky, Abreu, Upton, LaRoche, Avi. On paper, a little bit of pop anyway. If LaRoche sees any at bats against lefties, our organization is a joke. i really wasn't going to rant but screw it .. i agree ... this is nothing but a pr move, quasi kw and the owners. this is the full 20 mil plus the sox wanted to spend. it is just to compete for headline news against the northside team with kris bryant and rizzo and that rookie, i do not have time to look at his spelling of his name. pr move to hope to bring in the excitement or to compete for it in the media. are they really that shortsighted in their thinking, do they really think that less of the sox fans on not being intelligent to see this???? they will maybe make a token gesture and maybe get lawrie. there are options out there.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 04:57 AM) That was awesome. I don't think I've ever seen Big Buff get drilled like that in his career. That was similar to the one Buff put on Pronger a few years ago in the Finals. question, according to the recap, i only saw bickell with 8 min playing.... was that correct or what???

as much i like and wanted Todd Frazier on this team, i would have no problem if the sox went a different route if the price is too much in ref to players and prospects being traded.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:24 AM) Just build. Kenny Williams (and this has Williams written all over it) is ridiculously obsolete. This stuff doesn't work. But the Sox do it year after year after year. Where does Trayce fit into this? They don't even have the patience to find out if 2015 was at least somewhat real? He could decline .100 OPS points and still really help the team. as much as i hate to keep piling this crap on kw and company but i agree. it is the old way of thinking, look we went out and spent 20 mil for this player, come out and support the team, do not look at the rest of the sox problems. just a pr move to keep the barbarians at the gate contented and to hopeful add a little thunder in the media pr.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 02:24 AM) All I know is that it is not fair to him or the fans to have a future Hall of Fame talent (if he keeps this up), surrounded by a heaping pile of garbage except for a few guys. Hahn needs to get his s*** together and surround his stars with better complimentary players. it is not hahn that is the problem. it is his bosses.

well looking at the reds team and not their minor league, i only see Todd Frazier that would be enticing.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) Could always flip Jansen to the Cubs. soooo many options will be at their disposal.

well with a lot of bad press that surrounds us every day, no matter what city of any state, it always nice to know something special was done. well this is for a verteran of WW 2.... who was sent on a weekend excursion, all paid for him and his family, to New Orleans with all cost and amenities paid for, this is 4 hrs from Lake Charles. tomorrow he and his family is flying to DC and will meet with the President of the US and together go to the gave of the unknown soldier. well and some other highlights. the limo drive to New Orleans is done but a local Native American Indian tribe, Coushatta Tribe. the local casino is picking up the tab for New Orleans stay, the flight to DC and the stay there. the Vet is African American and btw, i forgot to mention, he is 110 yrs young. that is right, 110 yrs. and he is really sharp, i talked to him yesterday .... my family is involve in the VFW big time.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:07 PM) I think it could apply to either pitcher depending on the Rockies preference. I think Q and Arenado is pretty close to being 1-1 with the Sox likely kicking something in but if we're talking Sale than its the Rockies likely kicking something in. I'm not saying this will happen, just using Arenado as an example since his name was brought up. I would be stunned if Colorado actually traded him. oh i know, we poster do not have any inside connections with the FO. so i am with you here.
