QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 12:00 AM) To be fair, the ones leaking the Lawrie news are their beat writers so if not for them, we would know nothing of this deal. except a poster with source, and i believe he has that source said last nite the lawrie rumor had legs..... so it is what beene wants as the rtn.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 11:34 PM) I don't see how a non-playoff team with arguably the worst minor position player talent in all of baseball can be talking about trading their best prospect. Just makes no sense to me. There's no 1 player that is going to turn this team into a WS contender, so unless he's part of a Q package, or something along the lines, that nets us 3-4 top prospects back Anderson shouldn't be discussed. i am in total agreement, i am wondering if Beene is really trying to exploit the hole at 3b that the sox have to get the best from the sox in, what he thinks is a desperate trade. btw, any trade for a short term player should not start or ends with andersen, fulmer, adams, montas.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) By the way if anyone wants to do any supposition about prospects involved, here is the mid-season Top 30 prospects list. Its from July/August so some things have shifted, and there are a few guys not on there that likely will be in January, but you get the idea. great, it is always nice to have a ref to look at.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) That is really crossing the line. Have you ever met Adam LaRoche or asked his teammates about him? You take his words out of context and burst into a ignorant rant. his job to stir the pot and call names.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Montas to the A's? Maybe the next Frank De Los Santos? I really have no idea how to speculate on the package for both Lawrie and Reddick but I don't think your idea is far off and sounds pretty close to me. A defensive OF of Eaton LF, Thompson CF and Reddick RF sounds really good to me. Huge upgrade over last season. right now, montas and other prospects are a gamble.... until they make it to the bigs, no one know how they will develop. however this team is in a desperate condition with now help coming in key position.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) Not sure what you mean here. I mean, of course I am guessing, if that is what you mean - but I was just pointing out where the lack of walks can have multiple meanings. Or do you mean the hitter is guessing? nope, i mean hitters who never have the gift of picking up the pitches just goes up there and guess and swing. sorry for not making myself clearer.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) Garcia and Lawrie put up very similar power numbers last year. .257/13/59 for Garcia, .260/16/60 for Lawrie can he play 3b next season and hit at least 15 hrs???

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) Eh..it's his shtick. Whatever. I like coming up with different ideas, crazy ideas and have fun in the offseason. Some people on here take it way too serious. I like the Sox and this is an awesome board. I'm on it because it's the best on the Internet. I like the posters on here too. thank you, you are too kind.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) I do. You just don't like what I throw out there. Acquire young talent. Don't trade for rents, career years and mediocre veterans. What the Sox are doing has a 100% failure rate. This team is not competing in 2016, no matter how much fawning Williams and Hahn do at the feet of Billy Beane. No matter how many of our young players we hand over to him. And if the price I heard is correct, it's an outrage. there are one major flaw in that whole point. no offense. but it is the success of the norhtside. the bottom line is $$$$ for the owners.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) Which is why they shouldn't get Reddick. Another rent? Lord help us. Yea, yea, they'll extend him, they'll flip him...and they never do either. And saving draft choices isn't a savings if you are dealing away your prospects, which is what would happen. The clown gming has got to stop. And the love affairs with the As never end up well. See how the Cubs did it -they actually had a deal worked out for Castro before submitting the bid for Zobrist. and the sox can only play a hand full of those prospects, what to do with the others?? isn't the minor league system is suppose to be use to fill in needs of the parent team??? whether that is to use them via trade or not?? this is nothing but a batch work that needs to fix the house, that was neglected for yrs.

SSS: Early Look at 2016 Draft with Nick Hostetler
LDF replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) Here's something for you to nibble on. Take it with a grain of salt since the projected Sox pick is based on need and not BPA. I found it amusing. http://www.draftutopia.com/2016mlbmockdraft.html there was a great and valid discussion on why collins, if avail will be a great pick. i still maintain that reasoning. there is no viable help in catching in our system that can step in, in a yr or 2. but this past couple of days and the crazy payment for a #3/4 sp, i may think about another pitcher in the first round. damn if the sox have to sign a fa with a QO. there are some hidden gems i found yesterday and the day before. btw.... i would always enjoy talking drafts and prospects when there is news. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) The problem with a lack of walks in this case isn't just the direct effect. It is perhaps an indicator that they lack plate discipline and would struggle to hit consistently against MLB pitching. more like guessing

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) Just a guess but I think the Sox are looking to include Reddick. That's alot of outfielders Oakland is looking at and the Sox have a need for a real RF with defense. Reddick is left handed with pop and could hit behind Abreu. The Sox could fill two noles in one trade. Reddick would keep the Sox from spending big on a FA OF bat thus saving a '16 draft pick and could look at extending both Lawrie and especially Reddick since he's a FA after '16. I'm just speculating but the trade history between these two teams justifies the speculation. i hope you are right.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:25 PM) What I think they do next: sign a middle-infielder (Cabrera?) After: middle of the order bat i like that idea..... but for me, and basing this on what i mention on the fa of next yr, no trade unless the sox really gets a haul, sign a MI as you said and sign 2 major hitter in fa. yes i know the sox will loose their comp pick and 2nd rounder now, but this will really help in many ways. last, to convince the owners to eat laroche contract and platoon him with one of the fa hitters the sox sign or melky at dh and backup 1b.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) And I'm not justifying receiving less from another team. I just don't think you can assume the same package is ever available for Q. Even if 99% of the baseball world thinks Q > Shelby, if Arizona thinks different that is all that matters. If anything, this trade just make Q even more untradeable because the floor has been raised as you said. this trade if it is to happen, make me realize how important it is to invest in pitching at every chance the sox has. now whether the sox FO changes their outlook or opinion on the sox not trading or to make available Q, Robertson and even Rodon for trade, all this is nice a nice discussion.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) This board b****es about everything. This is a solid move for this team. It improves defense and adds some pop for what will likely be a small cost. this is my only defense on this forum. this is a sports forum, made by fans, for fans to gather as they would have in a pub and gives them the place and time to Biitch. .... and i enjoy this form of reading.

well as a fan of the sox, i am here waiting for the rest of this to unfold. what we know is lawrie is a sox, whether it is good or bad, that does not matter. it was a necessity that needed to be done. we all know why and at what failures of the past that lead us here. it is also here that we wait for that price to be mention. that price..... that too needed to be done, to be paid, we as fans may or may not like the price, it needed to be paid. this payment give the FO a little more time to continue to build this system, to find their replacement and not be under the gun of some kind. i will not rant if that price is too steep for me, but i am only a fan. what is next on the agenda.... who or what ever position is needed. remember next yr fa is pretty poor overall, i will demand here and now, that the sox look at next yr availability players and make and take that step now, to fix this team. this quasi 3-yr plan will hit a snag next yr, all for the sake of not making the necessary moves this yr.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) I just hope they don't try to out intensity each other. They have the potential to be annoying. It could get old really quick. or they could be brothers in arms. this is worth looking at when spring training comes.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) Is it just me or does Lawrie scream mediocre 3B? I don't know about giving up anything significant for him. We can go sign an Asian 3B. Keep the prospects. the unknown factor is how will that asian player preform in the mlb baseball?? with lawrie, he has a track record of success, success is very subjective word here. for the first part of your post, the sox needs a 3b...... sometimes you have to pay that price for lack of proper planning and management ...

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) Thank you for the link Lillian. That is an interesting read. Lawrie comes with some pros and cons but I think his energy and intensity is exactly what this lethargic team needs. I remember too many games where the Sox looked like lifeless dead. Eaton and Lawrie together could really provide a nice boost in the dugout. i just read it, the word intense is sooo funny. i like him as a player. i wonder if he is the kind of player that will lead by example or verbally infuse his personality on players.... meaning take them into account for not running or hustling. but the price???
-
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:48 AM) Seriously...wtf is Hahn doing? Obviously with this trade Q isn't even on the market. Not sure what Plan A B or C is...I honestly doubt they have one. I could see this trade for Q...but Shelby Miller!?!? I'm seriously pissed about this... this really make me wonder if hahn is only a puppet to others in the FO.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:49 AM) To be fair, they really had to trade one of Eaton or Pollock, and Eaton's value wasn't too high at the time due to injuries and a slight decline. and unconfirmed rumor of him being too uppity in the clubhouse. (what ever that meant)
-
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:46 AM) Weird overpay from the team who traded Eaton and Skaggs for Mark Trumbo (a DH in the field and can't put up an OPS as high as Eaton). I'm somehow not surprised. but stewart and larussa are there now i would have thought they would have done better in trading.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 02:45 AM) Color me not impressed. Coming off of a trip almost to the World Series, their two top signings are Zobrist and Lackey. Honestly it reminds me of the White Sox winter last year, in that all are second or third tier guys. For a team that is going to be one of the most profitable, probably in all of sports, I'd be pretty pissed if I was a Cubs fan that they didn't bring in A level talent to go with that offense. no offense to Tony but i agree with you.
