  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) It's ok to root for your team, but I laugh whenever we make moves in the winter people assume they are GOOD moves. Lawrie is what he is (cliche). He's not going to emerge as a star. there can be something different thing that can happen to make him a star in chi. so if you are talking about a star who will make a game change instantly, like a big hurt, jose a, and let alone, some of the games superstar, then you are right. but he is a player that can infuse competitiveness into the team. the go-go sox of the 80's. now, i am not saying that will happen, but i like what he brings to the sox. i just hope he is not a swisher.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) I guess you could play him once or twice a week in April and if he remains the awful hitter he was last year, just release him. Eat the 13 million. He's that bad that it might spark the team if you cut him. but he has a bad rep for being a really slow starter. since the sox can't trade him. he is a good defensive option at 1b. keep him and see what happens. remember he did put up 12 hrs. if by the asg, nothing happens and if the sox are out of it, release him. nothing more than a bench option with an occasional start.
  3. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) No offense taken, but I'd like to hear you elaborate on the said "gamble" in that scenario. where i was going, esp in light of the rpt of Laroche to pitt with 8 mil, i really do not see any hope what so ever in trading danks and laroche. now or even when the season start and at the trade deadline. hoping and counting on then or penciling them for a trade, that is the gamble. i see them as untraceable.
  4. QUOTE (Moe @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) No Puig.......ever. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2597460...rce=twitter.com i would regardless of what jose has to say, if they, the sox trade with the dodgers for puig for Brandon Brennan - sp and Danks - sp other wise, pass
  5. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) My hope for 2016 is that the Sox can somehow win 82 or 83 games and at least have a "winning" season which hasn't happened since 2012. Outside of that I honestly don't expect them to contend realistically so I hope to see a continued building of the minor league system, more acquisition of younger talent, the firing of Robin Ventura (and the hiring of a legit manager for 2017) and the selling off at the deadline of more pieces who really don't have a future with the organization. (Hello...LaRoche to cite one example...) Keep building for 2017 then be aggressive next off season. Mark being aggressive in 2017.... maybe in the trade front, b/c i really don't see much in the fa market that is projected.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) The Reds are going to budge or the White Sox and Reds won't have a deal. Sox aren't going to trade Anderson or Fulmer for Frazier and they shouldn't. i agree and with your post, there are several factors in play here. the bottom line is this. cincy will not budge, so the sox and fans should not be shocked if no deal is made. cincy will not bow to the sox, but some other org may budge on those demands. the last thing is, if the pkg gets bigger between the sox and cincy.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) The Royals already hate us anyway, why not bring in two guys from Toronto who they also hate. f*** em. hell ya .... be the det tream of the late 80's.
  8. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) I got a little over excited myself last yr. so I've eaten half of that pie. My hopes are they can get me as excited again with a different outcome. So far so good but we're still a ways away. i know what you mean. i will get really excited when spring training starts. i just can't wait. btw, pass the salt for this pie.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:44 PM) I could see Cincy getting desperate to move him before the season starts, hence lowering the package that the Sox would have to send to them. I'd wait it out a little while to hopefully get Cincy to give in on a deal. they will not budge on their demands.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) Would Baltimore be better off with Chris Davis or Alex Gordon, Pedro Alvarez, and Scott Kazmir? with the cost of what is will be costing, Pedro.... but here is the one thing that i have been holding for a while. his rep of really being a dick to everyone on the team..... pretty much like Albert Belle. too much baggage and a major prima donna.
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) I don't think Pitt has the ammo to make a Quintana deal with them worthwhile. i really do think they do have the ammo, it all depends on what the sox would want as a rtn.
  12. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 10:57 PM) You would think they would be if the Sox let it known that he were available. I think since we haven't heard of interest from a team like Pit, you know that Sox really aren't looking to make a deal involving Q. very true, i think that would be the case until yesterday trades.... Azl-Atl and Chi-Oak. things may have chg/
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) I want absolutely nothing to do with Matt Kemp...a deal for him has disaster written all over it. in gambling that is betting on the come hoping for the odds to happen. for what it worth, do you have any specific situation??? or was it a gut feeling.
  14. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) 1. Teams trade for rentals. If either is having a decent season, it could help the playoff race 2. They are on the hook for only 40% of their annual salary instead of full. that is really a wild hope, i mean no offense. i just can't think of something nicer to say. too much of a gamble.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) I wonder what DRob would bring in a trade. hou wanted kimbrel at the trading deadline and the Padres wanted 4 player, 2 rp,one really good sp. so using that time i would imagine 2-3 decent prospects. if the sox do not over extend their hand. the rtn for giles is an interesting case, but getting a haul like Atl, that will not happen .
  16. i wanted to start another thread some some bozo came on the thread and complained. so if the boss of this site wants individual threads, then tell the admin / mod who poses as another poster to stop the harassment b/s. now, back to baseball. i have been thinking, if the sox were looking at getting a bat in the fa market, the only i really like for the cost would be heyward. now that will be an expensive one. not only in yrs, cost and loosing a draft pick maybe a trade for a young bat, but which team would give up a young bat ..,.. so i think a trade route for a heavy laden contract that the team wants to get away from. one of those was mention on monday on the mlb rumor page. it is the Padres, and the player is kemp. for more yrs at i think 33 his contract is up. 22 mil + yr but the dodgers pays 3.5 mil per for those yrs. Kemp is still a good hitter, and when he can't defend, a move for a yr to the dh, and if necessary they will throw in a player. now they have come back from that player, sp - Ross. but how bout Austin Allen - cat who is at least 3-4 yrs away. now the price is not or should not be that expensive, b/c they want to rid themselves of that contract.
  17. maybe, just maybe one team may be interested but i see somewhat of a 1 sided trade or a rtn that will be extremely favorable to that team. Pitt.
  18. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 06:41 AM) I can definitely see the idea of the Sox being big-time sellers if they don't have a good year. Could be as early as the all star break (Danks and Laroche) Next offseason, you would have Melky, Duke and Lawrie available with only 1 year left, and Robertson with a 2 year contract. Besides a Robertson who continues being great, none would command a haul. But all of them would together would inject a sizable sum of talent into the system. And then you have the weak free agent starting pitching class to try and exploit with Quintana and/or Sale. Not the worst position to be in should your team flop in 2016. i have one flaw in your post, a major flaw. if the sox haven't been able to trade the bolded, what make you think they can do it after the asg???
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 06:25 AM) This is pretty much Lawrie's last chance. He's been a huge bust for a No. 1 pick and obviously the A's think he's no good if they wanted to dump him. Hopefully he'll be humble in this, his last real chance, to make it big. His stats, in fact, were lousy with the A's. We shall see. I am a little surprised a lot of you are happy with the trade. At least he's used to AL pitching, but I see him as a fairly lousy hitter. with what the sox traded for lawrie, i agree they are not earth shattering superstar prospects / studs but neither is lawrie. lawrie fixes a major hole the sox have / had and with all the joy and relief of finally getting a possible 3b who can defend and put up some decent offensive numbers. now, the players traded, i first question is why them, why look at them to perform in the future, the rp projects to make the jump maybe at the end of next yr or more importantly in season 2017. the sp will be 1 yr after, if all goes well. so i am looking at 2-3 yrs from now. i am confuse, instead of looking for a player / prospect who can start in the beginning of the season.
  20. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:36 AM) He talked about LH power in the OF....guess so Didckerson of col hit lh ..... ummmm
  21. b/c of my stupid arse prediction of 90 + last yr, i really would like to see how the rest of the off season plays out. i am still eating the crow pie.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 06:25 AM) I'd be fine parting with Adams, Montas, Anderson and Fulmer in that order if they traded for Frazier. Definitely wouldn't want to see more than one go. In a world where the Sox pony up for a Upton/Heyward, ideally something like Montas, Micah, Guerrero and Engel/May could get it done. i would really hold on to adams, he is the closest thing to a solid #2 like Q the sox have in the minors. with fulmer, no decision on sp or rp.
  23. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 06:11 AM) Bruce Levine on 670 said the Reds want Anderson or Fulmer. i would do anderson for frazier and ss - alex blandino
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:50 AM) Nightengale says he thinks it's a bluff. He doesnt think they are going to spend the 10 years plus the 200 mill for Heyward. has nightengale has any feelings on the sox next move??
  25. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:58 AM) @MarkBermanFox26 Told #Astros getting closer Ken Giles from Phillies for pitchers: Vince Velasquez, Bret Oberholtzer &OF Derek Fisher, pending physicals. Pretty good haul for the Phillies. yeah i agree, i just read that on trade rumors. philly escape on that trade. i still would like the sox to check in on the closer the astro are dealing. i am wondering, are they blowing up the team, b/c if they are, marwin gonzález and evan gattis are players i would like to see if the sox could swing a trade. there is no way the sox will be able to do anything in trading for springer or altuve unless they are trading from their crowded pitching staff.
