  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 02:33 AM) Been researching this lately, now that I have a child and I know there are not good public schools in our district. We've started looking at private preschools, and while I understand they can sort of double as day care, but holy cow! Just was wondering what peoples' thoughts and experiences have been, whether it is worth it to invest a lot in this part of a child's education, etc. i am all for the private, religious kind of school, b/c of the quality of the school, class and most importantly the social interactions of the children. i told my cuz of my ideas with a reminder to emphasize on religious freedom for children. i point blank stated the social interaction. that is soooo much needed in an important part of children growing up.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) I think the LaRoche hate is overdone. They have more important things to worry about fixing. let me understand this more clearly, are you saying that i have a laroche hate???? b/c if you do, you are wrong, i was for this signing, if nothing else, in other words, if the sox couldn't get anyone else, then yes he could have been a fall back. well, it failed. ok, but the sox will not explore any other moves or improvements unless some contract relief comes in. the sox tried to trade him and failed. i am more disgusted at the sox FO for not moving on and continue to improve this team. so what the sox will have to eat this contract, who cares the sox will see if he rebounds, they the sox need to continue the improvements.
  3. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) If we dont give up Anderson the prospect package is probably going to be larger than people want to see go. or better yet, rethink the game plan of how to make this team competitive and walk away from this.
  4. this is what i see, but first let me say, i was all for trading anderson for any improvement, but after yesterday seeing his stats and looking up his history, his stats does not really show the big picture. his stats alone can be elite, his hitting tools, his running tools are exceptional.... he is if position may have question marks. no wonder cincy is adamant on anderson being mention as a rtn. so i say this here..... the value of anderson, what is that value of a elite offensive, dynamic player who would be a #1 in the lineup be worth???? not for a 2 yr rental.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) Totally agree. Between the move to the AL, and the move to DH, plus a nagging injury, I think LaRoche could go back to normal this season. and you think this is a good gamble to make, so the sox should not address any improvement in this particular position??? the salary is committed to, but it still doesn't mean the sox can not improve that position.
  6. QUOTE (glangon @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) The La Roche signing didn't make sense. We went and got a good First Baseman, where we already had someone else incumbent in the position. The sense move would have been to have Wilkins still on the 40 man and playing in AAA in case Abreu went on the DL and Gillaspie as back up 1st baseman and bring in a proper DH such as Butler or Morales. The problem happened when Gillaspie had a poor year and La Roche had a poor year, then all of a sudden we were forced to release Gillaspie in order to bring up Saladino as we had no player on the roster with options as Bonaficio and Beckham wasting away in roster spots they had no right to be in. Our roster construction was flawed and La Roche was brought in to play a position that a) he didn't want to play and b) he had never played before. He suffered, we suffered and it all went to pot. to look back and to rehash what went right or what didn't, well it will not accomplish anything. when things started to go wrong, man it really went wrong. prob put this team and org back several yrs and with the success of the northside, even further. the theory of whom ever suggested the signing of bona and laroche, meaning kw or hahn the theory was sound. it just didn't work, now the org is laden with an unmovable contract in laroche.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 05:56 PM) Watched Grand Budapest Hotel. I really enjoyed it. 4 stars out of 5 i will give you and many who thought this was a good movie. i just couldn't get into it. many props.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) No worries bud, you've got it right. And feel better! dang..... i was ready to get to the pulpit and preach how the sox are starting to screw this up ... blah .. blah btw, many thanks .
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) I said he's a short-term handicap, but that doesn't give a reason to make him a long-term one by taking on someone like Shields or signing Chris Davis to hysterical amounts to fill LaRoche's place. you know, i know you are making, probably a great point, but this is on me, i can't seem to understand it. fyi i am really sick and nasally. so pls forgive on this. but let me add this to what i perceived you are getting at. getting Davis is a real bad mistake, plain and simple. getting shields, maybe interesting, if and only if, they the Padres sweeten the pot. the sox FO could easily say no to any proposals,
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 12:47 PM) Shields is regressing badly and here's why I'm so against the idea. 2014 ERA 3.21 FIP 3.59 in the AL, 2015 ERA 3.91 FIP 4.45. That's a pretty significant spike considering he went from the AL to the NL and pitched 2015 in a pitchers park. Us Sox fans went through four years of Dunn and Danks contracts, one more year of LaRoche will not kill us. At the time, the move made sense since the Sox needed a left handed power bat and the market was thin on those players. Sometimes things don't work out. 4 yrs left on that contract..... that hurts esp toward the end of the contract. now if they, the Padres want to make it work, they will need to sweeten the pot, add their prospects that are ranked #2 and 3 and throw in sp/rp prospect Mazzoni .... then maybe just maybe.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) "LaRoche's $13M this year will handicap us forever!" "Let's go get Chris Davis for $150M" "Let's take James Shields" Guys, in the scheme of things, LaRoche isn't making a massive amount and is in no way a long-term handicap. He's a short term handicap and it would be foolish to make the situation a long term one. long term no, short term yes, esp added to danks contract, the sox FO will not go beyond what they think the team should spend. esp with 28 mil on the books that can not be moved. so if nothing else is done, do you think the team will do well??? the owners would not be b****ing in fans not coming out???
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 01:04 AM) I actually think LaRoche is a good bounce back candidate. The problem with having LaRoche is that Melky is in the OF rather than DH you said he is a good bounce back. the problem i have with this statement is this, he might be, and if the sox wanted to experiment and had the so call money to waste, why not. but at his salary, he was suppose to be a guarantee, not some experiment. second, this team can not waste their effort in this kind of player, they need players who will produce.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:49 AM) Hahn should have probably not mentioned how bad the offense was then. His job should be on the line also this year, IMO. As currently constructed, the Sox are in the bottom 3 of the AL with Oakland and Tampa. i look at it this way, his credibility with the fans would be shot.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 04:21 AM) The prevailing theory is that he's bulked up way too much and also lost X percentage of his fast-twitch muscle memory...and his bat speed has also slowed significantly from 2013-14. It's more of a conditioning/work ethic issue than anything. Sosa went through the same transition, albeit a chemically-enhanced one. or steroids
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) Think I would rather have 1 year of LaRoche at 13M than 3 years of Shields totaling 65M including a 2019 buyout of 2M. The SOX would be doing SD a huge favor. No thank you, Shields is SD's problem. this too in another salary dump i was looking at, yeah he did have a decent yr with ref to stats, but i am going to continue to battle this cliche, he is best suited for a NL team. in the AL team those stats will be watered down.
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 01:15 AM) The pitching in our system is pretty nasty i totally agree, it amazes me on how they keep getting these prospects????
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) He has been on a great streak lately, that no one is talking about because of Kane. He has won a couple of games for us really. now with what you said, this is true, another point in case on what you mention. craw, with another shutout win and kane point streak continues. this two story should be the highlites, equally. it is hard to have a shut out in the nhl these day let alone 2 of them back to back. looking good for the hawks. are they now starting to find their niche ??
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) How is it shortsighted? next yr fa is really not that strong, this is the time, esp with the signing of heyward, teams would be needing to make trades to get better or closer by trading for key personnels, so they will be stronger. in that area, the sox can at least make 1 significant trade and reap in prospects and players. they can make a smart fa or 2 signings and maybe trade off some surplus pitches and or prospects in another minor trade to finish off this time of retooling. here is what i am talking about.... will pitt continue to remain as is, or will they sell b/c of heyward, or will they make even a bigger effort to get a better sp?? stl, stl needs a of'er but most importantly they need a real #1/2 sp esp to combat the sCrubs. sfo, they have not be heard from, with heyward signing, what will they do?? dodgers, they need and prefer a cost control pitching. they need another sp and they want a closer. arz, if sfo and dodgers improve, will arz do the same?? nl east... i do not know what going on over there so here is the time to make some moves, screw the profit margin, go over and it is not going to be a big lost. use next yr as a testing ground for the team and a time for the team to bound. at the end, 28 mil come off the books. add that to the 15 mil coming off the books with the trading of robertson. that is the missed opportunity, to take advantage of the situation that team will feel they will need to make to compete. and the sox can be the sellars and buyers.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) I'm thinking as of now, they'll go with LaRoche to start with but he will be on a short leash. They probably want him and Abreu sharing time at first and DH against righties with Melky DHing, Eaton in left and Trayce in center against lefties. But like I said, if LaRoche isn't performing and Trayce starts off good out of the gate we'd likely see LaRoche shift into a bench role (or even released). so does that mean, they will not make any improvement on that front??? they are being shortsighted in order not to spend money.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 06:34 AM) I actually disagree. The Sox were 5 wins away from .500 last year with the worst offense in the league. I think they just picked up at least 3 wins alone at 3B. Make a couple more marginal upgrades and they should battle for a 2nd wildcard honestly. i can see what you are thinking, but think about this, this way. yes, improve to get those wins that may get the sox into the wildcard, but making some improvements. now do you not think that the other teams will not also make improvements and adjustment to their club as well. they will be moving that goal line every time they add and subtract players to their team.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) That's not even counting Cabrera and Robertson... i think they can live with Robertson contract, everyone can see his productions. now mekly, if he doesn't produce, he will be right up there with danks and laroche. the sox paid for the bottom line = production.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) That number of years and dollars for Davis after what they gave Abreu (roughly 40%) will just never happen with JR as owner...you pay that kind of money for a franchise catcher, SS, 3B or outfielder who can hit and defend. Davis is not close to the modern day equivalent of Albert Belle as a hitter. be that as it may, if all things stays the same, going into the convention for the sox, i really wonder how the sox will spin this. on top of that, i wonder how they will deal with a worst turnover in purchasing season tickets or weekend pkg. are they going to say, this is a 3 yr plan and this is a minor set back or will they tell the truth, the sox have 2 contract of 28 mil and they want that off their books.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 05:06 AM) Let's take the opposite approach. Anderson's ROY in 2017, Fulmer's rookie pitcher of the year in 2016 and Rodon's in the Top Five for Cy Young balloting next year as well. Montas is the equivalent of Herrera/healthy Joel Zumaya. You still need some breaks. The overuse of the cutter not to wear down Robertson's effectiveness by 2018. You will need to replace Cabrera and Lawrie and the only long-term projections you can make are with Anderson, Eaton and Abreu. With no catcher in sight, you're still looking at that position, 3b (Trey M.), two of the outfield positions (unless Hawkins miraculously figures things out...and also where Upton would come in handy as he would still be 29 in 2018), DH and possibly 2b depending on what happens with Sanchez and Micah Johnson. With no Upton and Hawkins...it's hard to imagine where the power is going to come from. Trading Adams? Maybe an international signing from Asia or more likely Cuba? Logically, they would fill in those spots with cheap but elite defenders like Rondon and maybe Engel but it's going to continue to be a struggle offensively. It's just so hard with all the position player flops to imagine Anderson as an All-Star and also count on 3-4 more positions to be handled via internal options. We know that from Thompson, Saladino, Sanchez, Trey and Micah we'll be fortunate to have one starter among them in 2018. Trading Sale or Quintana seems to be the only solution to getting a more balanced offense since they're not going to continue to try to spend their way to one like last offseason. they, the sox FO has a game plan, we, as fans do not know what the plan is. the other thing is, what will the owners allow hahn do to fix this problem, as well as putting a competitive team on the field. the ideal solution would be, not to trade any of the sp in the rotation . but who knows what the sox will do,.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) I'm not, haha I'm currently a grad student in the financial services sector. many wishes for your success.
