  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 12:50 AM) I would be lying if I didn't say this put a big smile on my face. Whenever we did go at it, you were always a worthy competitor. It's probably the reason we did go at it so much: I knew you could handle your own. Found this place after I was banned (my ban ends August of 2016, lol) from WSI for telling a mod to get bent after he told me I would never be smart enough to be a lawyer. I had wanted to go to law school and went to their "SLaM" equivalent and asked for the perspectives of the WSI's lawyers about college and the law school process. The first response was a mod telling me I didn't have a shot in the world. Strangely enough, I used his condescension as fuel to encourage me to work on my grammar and spelling. After starting to post here frequently, Matt (NorthSideSox72) noticed my writing and interest in the Future Sox forum and saw me as someone with potential for FutureSox. Been writing for Future Sox for two-and-a half years now. So not everything is horrible about WSI. After all, they are our biggest recruiting tool here at SoxTalk. A lot of people have alluded to it, but the reason this is the #1 White Sox fan site on the internet is because our leadership. Jason (chisoxfn) and all of the other mods/admins who had been here in the beginning made this the safe place for all of the WSI refugees but the real leadership comes from the fabric of the posters on this board and that's why everyone keeps coming back. As Mike (southsider2k5) says every few weeks when a "problem" comes about, "this board polices itself." He's right every time, because this board continues to police itself over and over again. Forums are dying and SoxTalk is growing. Thank you to everyone for contributing to the only website I visit every single day. that was an excellent post.
  2. i wonder with ref to laroche, which team has the best bench .... are they an all in one, or are they individual piece that are riveted together. speaking of riveted benches, was he able to count how many each bench has.....
  3. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 12:35 AM) Who Cargo? Is it still 2013? i went back to look at the comment and the org link, it was a mock trade of sending that pkg to col. i believe.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 12:06 AM) If you can rely on any of Sale/Q/Rodon/Abreu/Eaton not getting hurt, sure. Heck, a year ago we would have seen more Danish and Hawkins talk, along with Avi and Micah as well. Heck, Webb was going to be the closer of the future, too. The fact of the matter is that with all the uncertainty surrounding Thompson, Saladino, Sanchez and EJ, they almost have to hit with two out of three from Anderson, Fulmer and Adams. Anything less than that success rate before 2018 and the balance of the scale is tipping towards rebuilding again...as much as that will hurt in the middle of their media/broadcasting rights early negotiating window. If they do pass on Gordon, Cespedes and Upton in favor of fiscal responsibility after wasting so much the last 2-3 seasons...then there's no choice but trading Sale or Quintana and hoping for a return like Cliff Lee, Phillips and Sizemore....the Teix to ATL deal or even Escobar/Cain for Greinke. It's just doubtful our divided front office can pull it off because by the time they have reached consensus, another team will already have exploited our hesitation and used it to their advantage. Right now, they seem more concerned with leveraging some profit out of a sunk cost in LaRoche than competing in Year Two. but people will not understand or is in complete denial, the sox will not do anything, b/c of lack of funds, but they don't want to dip into built in profits margin.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) He has been on a great streak lately, that no one is talking about because of Kane. He has won a couple of games for us really. interesting of crow.... i need to read up more on that.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) And why do people believe a package centered around Avi Garica, Micah Johnson and Frankie Montas is going to acquire one of the premier OF's in the game? ummmm sometimes sox fans can over value their sox players, or they are hitting the spike eggnog too early.
  7. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) Why are people moving pen arms? I'd rather keep Putnam. i agree, but if one person who can rake in players / prospects would be Robertson, if that was the case, i would say all others are off limits.
  8. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 11:15 PM) A lot of Sox players get overrated on this board, but for whatever reason Montas gets underrated. Seems like everybody is just waiting for him to fail...but he keeps delivering. He's a top 50 prospect in all of baseball heading into this season as a starter with a 98 mph fastball. As a 22 year old with a huge fastball that just has to harness his location a bit (doesn't have a walk problem by any means) and improve his changeup he's doing pretty damn well in my opinion. With all that said I still see him as good trade chip right now. If we can get a good OF/3B under 30 with control for at least 3 years I'd do it for Montas + filler prospects outside the top 12. I like EJ more than most so I think we have 4 rotation spots full already for the forseeable future with Fulmer and Adams knocking on the door as soon as the season after next. We need more hitting talent, it's going to have to come from our pitching depth 1 way or another eventually. Montas seems like the best option in my eyes if we aren't going to trade Q. the way the state of this system is, imho, no one should be untouchable. granted it is perceived that the fo do have a game plan, unlike any in the past, including last yr. that game is based, imo on a retool of this ball tame while trying to maintain some sort of a fiscal budget. now, the org / ballclub needs players / prospects that will step in, in a yr or 2, the only way to do that is to trade player they already have. players that can help bring in multi players, those players are anderson, montas kind of players. so unless trading one of them helps in bringing in a really good, max rtn that is needed or will help, forgot about it.
  9. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 09:27 PM) Its extremely important that Frank Montas builds as much value as possible so the Sox can trade him away for the next position player about to fall off a cliff. what is the matter with you, did someone piss in your eggnog??? why all the negative, can you imagine the sox fo take our comments to run a multi million dollar business.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) It was posted in this thread that Mark Buehrle ( who is revered around here) said he had no problem at all with Lawrie . He was probably asked by the Sox front office about Lawrie's character before the Sox pulled the trigger on the trade. It needs to be emphasized and re-empathized. We've probably all seen or knew athletes who were ultra competitive to the point of being dicks to umps and opposing players but with their own team mates they are the kind of guys you would want in a foxhole with you. Knowing a guy has your back is a good thing, a very good thing. excellent post.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) Fun fact. I actually found this site before WSI (never registered there either). Might be one of the very few who did. Was a lurker around February '03 and decided to register nearly a year later after seeing Jeremy Reed and the Barons (got an autograph too). Been a Soxtalk and FutureSox regular ever since I joined. for the continue growth of this site, i am really seeing the growth in the future sox...... i really see a verbal interest starting to take place. now, if the futuresox part wasn't what it was and all the hard work there, it would not be that strong and growing.
  12. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) I don't post often, but I read at least daily. Thanks for what y'all do and for having a place where we can come and exchange info and ideas in a relatively civil manner. i really think that is one of the key ingredients, and that in itself is due to the direction of the main boss and all the admin / mods.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) Creed was pretty darned good...albeit the sequence of boxing-related events about as likely in real life as Draft Day. And as lost as Mr. Jordan was in Fantastic Four, this was a far meatier role....he had the same director to work with as Fruitvale Station, too. i totally agree with creed, i am not a stallone fan, but it provided the next step in life and the new group coming in. if they do a 2 nd movie, i would be interested on the story line.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 04:46 AM) The only trade I would be comfortable making out of the 3 you listed is the one involving the Padres. you know, i really had to look at this in your way and i agree. that 3rd one can really stand on its own.
  15. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 05:46 AM) Spite is not productive for the future of their franchise what you said is very true, but sometimes i wonder what is on their mind in some of their decision making.
  16. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 04:33 AM) The Reds have no motivation to keep him yes they to.... for spite. if they will not get what they want, they will keep him.
  17. just buy out laroche freaking contract. he is deadwood....
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 05:30 AM) Anyone think we have the pieces to get a deal done without moving Fulmer or Anderson? It'd probably have to be more of a quantity over quality move. But I doubt the Reds have much motivation to move him right now. yes, but whether cincy will move off their req.... who knows. i sometime wonder the idea of asking the max and without moving.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:32 AM) "The Kenny Williams/MLB The Show/Baller Edition" • Sign Yoenis Cespedes for 6 years/$135 million • Trade Spencer Adams, Tyler Danish, Courtney Hawkins, Micah Johnson, Jordan Guerrero, and Adam Engel for Todd Frazier • Trade Frankie Montas, Avisail Garcia, Adam LaRoche, and Daniel Webb for Carlos Gonzalez trade... i am thinking on the fallout of the heyward signing and what it means for other teams. to la , it all depends on cueto interest from the dodgers. robertson - cl, Rodon - sp, to the sox Enrique Hernández - 2b/ss/of, J.P. Howell - rp, Yimi García - rp, Julio Urias - sp, Jose De Leon - sp, Alex Verdugo - of, Jose Peraza - 2b/ss to hou Q - sp, to chi George Springer - of, Marwin González - ss/3b/1b. Mark Appel - sp, J.D. Davis - 3b, to chi and salary dump for kemp and will move to the dh role. Hunter Renfroe - of, Matt Kemp - of, Austin Allen - cat, Javier Guerra - ss/3b. to San TT - of, Lowry - sp, Danish - sp, montas - rp
  20. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 03:57 AM) I like this for two reasons: 1) It shows that another team thinks really highly of Anderson 2) We can stand our ground and believe in Anderson look for other options and another team.
  21. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 04:30 AM) I follow along on this site fairly religiously. Seldom do I feel the need to post something, unless I'm drunk or some dumb s***. but I feel the need to add this to the discussion. I live in Toronto. I worked as a bartender during Lawrie's rookie year. He was a hero. No other way to put it. He was the franchise saviour for the Blue Jays. He was the Canadian cover athlete for our version of MLB THE SHOW, for example. He was still a kid. Maybe 22? I met him a couple times while working. He always seemed quiet and polite, though somewhat intense. Never rude. Then he was traded for Josh Donaldson. He was expected to replace an MVP type player. Again, perhaps impossible expectations What I'm getting at is....maybe he can benefit from not being expected to be "the answer" and just be the player he is. I think that can be a good player. If you excuse intensity for being a "douche" that's is a mistake. And those who like to make personal assumptions about people they don't know? Chill, head. a great point and a nice way to say we should be a little understanding.
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:18 AM) Good idea NorthSideSox72 and I'd say you've got everyone in the right spot except I'm not sure about Trey starting at Birmingham. 10 things I'm really looking forward to next season. 1- When will Montas get his next callup and in what capacity. If all goes well with the Sox I'm hoping Montas can spend the season at Charlotte as a starter and be a September callup again. Charlotte should be an interesting challenge for him. 2- Fulmer's development as a starting pitcher. I have to keep reminding myself that he only has one full season as a starter under his belt so I'm trying not to expect too much while he processes through the minors. 3- Spencer Adams. Strike thrower, good stuff, great composure on the mound and he's a Georgia boy. I'm biased due to my wife being from Georgia, what can I say. 4- Jordan Guerrero. I loves me some south paws. Have only seen a few short clips but after struggling in a few outings after his initial call up he seemed to find his rhythm and pitched pretty well at Winston-Salem. 5- the killer ZZ's in Zangari and Zavala. I'm just going to sit back and follow with no expectations. 6- Tim Anderson. I expect AAA to be a bit of a challenge at first but I think he will gradually adjust to the pitching and faster pace of the game. I think the key word for Sox fans is patience. Don't panic if the kid struggles, he's still quite young and hasn't been playing baseball very long. 7- Jacob May. Imo, Juan Pierre 2.0 and that ain't bad. Like Anderson, it will be interesting to see how he responds to better pitching at AAA. The little guy can fly and should be fun following him for another season. 8- Adam Engel- we know the tools exist so its just a question of has he turned the corner with his AFL performance? I'll take the patient wait and see approach. 9- Trey Michalczewski- He's the one guy on the list I'm not so sure starts at AA. His BA left something to be desired at Winston-Salem but if the Sox feel he's ready for Birmingham then so be it. I won't complain. 10- Eddy Alvarez- a great guy and a fun player to follow. What's not to like? you really made up a impressive list. nice. for me, anderson, 160 hit, 114 k's, 49 sb's nice..... i like. it.
  23. hawks won, 2-0 over the jets. craw in goal and for the shutout, kane a pretty goal, 25 games and counting. the useless player, 8 min and 2 hits. now guess who i am talking about.
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 02:35 AM) I like the moves so far. Buying low on bounce back candidates sure beats paying good money for guys to come to Chicago to die. If players are going to suck let their salary or what we gave up for them reflect that. Players being terrible making $10M+ /year takes the wind out of our sails . the sox have being doing that since the 80's. lost on that rt many times and a very little success. esp when the sox needed to make a really strong move. but i have a feeling that is what is going to happen. until danks and laroche contract comes off the books. in that case, maybe even melky.
