QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:04 PM) I'd rather give a closer ridiculous money than trade prospects for one and what was the dodgers talking about... meaning the rtn in the chapman purpose deal??

Viable Trade Candidates That Wont Cost Anderson or Fulmer?

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Blackmon scares me. Guy had a .695 OPS away from Coors last year and in his all star 2014 he hit .617 away from Coors. i am always very apprehensive on hitter from col. -
QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) The Cards did win 100 games, though they had really remarkable luck. They're still a match for the Cubs and probably better than the Pirates with what they have. The O's won't pony up for Upton, Angelos makes JR look like a spendthrift. I think its basically Angels, White Sox, Tigers, maybe Rangers, Nationals and maybe the Royals (if they get real crazy) as the OF market competition. the cards lost a sp who did very well and heyward. even with heyward, i really like their replacement player. but that missing SP..... really hurts. now the sCrubs did improve alot. it is not even close now.

i wonder if they will be interested in melky???

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:52 PM) Agree. Quit f***ing around and half assing this. If you won't spend a lot of money and get some offense then move Sale, Q and Abreu. someone once said this to me, "if the sox moves or lack of bothers you, leave and cheer for the other team in chi" now i redid that last part. this is why i always mention that chg teams is not a factor.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) If what's transpired in free agency and via trades so far has caught anyone by surprise in Front Offices across the league then they need to be let go. None of what's happened so far has been surprising. None of the free agent costs have been way over what everyone has been speculating for months now. Same with trades. but in one aspect, the trade, it should be of better benefit to the sox if they do decide to trade someone of value.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:48 PM) With the moves AZ and SF have made, the Dodgers may not make the playoffs anyway. The Dodgers didn't develop/trade for their youth only to turn around and trade them. The philosophy in their FO has changed and they are infusing more youth into the entire organization. The Dodgers have been looking to trim payroll for a few years now and what they have been doing the last few years is spending huge in the international and domestic markets to build their farm and develop players that can replace the high cost veterans they have now when those veterans contracts are up. The Dodgers are going to look alot different in 1-3 years with alot more youth that can be locked up long term so they don't have to rely so heavily on free agency. I don't like the Dodgers but I have a tremendous amount of respect for their approach/philosophy. Anyhoot. Cueto signed for 6/130M and an opt-out after 2 years huh. Giants better be praying that arm holds up long enough for Cueto to opt-out or say hello to their new Zito. good point

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) I think Pete Rose should be inducted in the HOF. But all of his transgressions should be listed too so they are not forgotten. I just hate the whole excluding him and acting like he never existed. He did exist and he was a hell of a hitter, but he also broke some major rules. That's all part of MLB history and should all be included in its major museum. if he will ever be inducted into the hof, it prob be after his passing. but look at shoeless jackson. how long as he passed away.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) True, but I bet there are way more shady characters already in the HOF. Ty Cobb.... and rumor has that he even blackmail the commish for some of the things he was doing, shooting at a robber, gambling on games, etc,....

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:14 PM) If you can't add, as much as it pains me, then you must take advantage of said prices and subtract. They had a plan which supposedly included Samardzija. What were they going to pay him with if they have no money? It isn't like they are $20 million short of their projected revenues. If they are, they are crazy. They have never operated that way. Their projections have always been beyond conservative leaving them profits on a yearly basis except one, but Forbes said the $3 million loss they took in 2013 included the $10 million bonus that was paid to Abreu after that season ended. and that is what i have been waiting for. that yr, when it was a lost. they added Jose A salary to that yr, that calendar yr the salary. why??? they could have added it the the new yr coming in. they wanted a lost.... only their acct will know why.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:11 PM) Somehow it seems half assed / in between is the direction we are headed. To me, start to rebuild with an eye longer term or go at this thing. One or the other. I'm not saying you need to make your mind up immediately, but then need to be very careful that they don't over commit one way and than it is too late to head the other direction (because the market has tried up). i think they the sox will need to not to make up their mind quickly but they have to decide and put all effort and resources to fully complete that decision.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) I think the Dodgers reluctance to deal certain players from their farm show their intended direction and confirms what others have said about the Dodgers looking for more cost controlled players. The Dodgers have not been willing to trade guys like Pederson, Seager and Barnes who will be with the '16 team and then pitchers such as Urias and DeLeon in '17. Now they have Peraza to throw into the mix. The Dodgers clearly have a plan based on their plethora of youthful prospects. Anyway. Giants interested in Cueto huh? Cueto should pitch well in the NLW ballpark's ( excluding Coors ) but I can't help but wonder if all the innings he's thrown comes back to bite him in a year or two. Big gamble imo. Glad the Sox aren't in on Cueto. but if they don't trade some of these excellent prospects, then they may not make the playoff.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) Yes, if he would have continued with the numbers he put up in May he would have been a MVP candidate. His track record shows consistent decline in the second half of the season for him with a .273/.341/.506 hitter in the first half and a .239/.298/.417 hitter in the second half over his career. He also has a significant shift away from Great America with a line of .270/.333/.507 with a .231 ISO at home against .244/.309/.426 with .182 ISO on the road. He has good qualities but is not going to be the savior of this team and therefore I don't think he is worth trading for. If the Sox were a guy away and needed to solidify 3B defensively and add a little pop this may make sense, but given the state of things, the Sox are better off diverting resources elsewhere. i really doubt any one player / prospect will be a savior of this team. the only one i see is the owners and they need to throw the money in a wise way into fixing this team and / or tell the FO to make trades that will improve both the team and the system.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:51 PM) Its hard to blame them, since they have a fantastic farm system that should help them, but Andrew and the GM are clearly putting a ton of faith in the develoment of those kids. If they don't pan out, they are done. Trading them for vets would have been the safer move, especially given the payroll they have to work with. That said, I think they are under somewhat of an order to minimize future payroll. They will always spend but I don't think they will have the blank check they did when they first jumped in. The company that owns them, owns them to make money. but they are laden with 3 of'er whose contracts are huge.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) Maybe they realized that they can't just keep spending on over priced players, who don't seem to be able to perform to that high level consistently? These contratcs are going to come back and bite these clubs another excellent point, look at the phillies, after their last WS title. they were burden with all those heavy contracts.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) Maybe they realized that they can't just keep spending on over priced players, who don't seem to be able to perform to that high level consistently? These contratcs are going to come back and bite these clubs they did say that they wanted to get better cost control players, b/c as you said the salary at where it stands now. so that proves your point. it would be nice on a trade for multi pieces from both the sox and the dodgers, but i can only dream.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) Listening to KC sports radio, they interviewed someone from Cincy. Talked about Frazier. Said the Reds could be doing a deal soon because this is about the time they make deals. Said they use Winter Meetings to get things in place. We'll see if they make a deal. They have the leverage because they don't have to deal him. But now might be the time with his second half decline last season. Hope we can get him without giving Anderson and Fulmer. this has nothing to do with you personally, but ref to cincy, talk is cheap.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) Geeze...Dodgers have stood pat (and really got worse with the loss of Greinke) while Dbacks and Giants have aggressively made moves. Tough division. A year ago Pads failed but went aggressive too. Everyone in that division (but Rocks) seems to want it. i know, even thou this is not a finished deal, i am wondering what the dodgers are thinking. with that payroll, they have to commit to an upgrade of some sorts. now, and this is my pipe-dream, if cueto does goes with the giants, then maybe if the sox are so incline to made a trade. the market will be there for a big time rtn. just my thoughts.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:45 PM) Let's all let the personal stuff go, even if it is defending yourself. Back to baseball talk. kool beans here. i don't hold grudges.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) I think that's understood. Still doesnt take away from the fact that it's a waste of time. Plus the talking yourself out of competing people the "Well this team is better and so is this team we cant compete" drive me crazy. You can say that for every single year if you wanted to. You just have to convince yourself that there's no parody and your team sucks. Then it's easy. None of the players mentioned above besides Rodon are worth sacraficing any of the time left on Sale's,Q's or Abreu's contract. again you make an excellent point. in fact you made several. we as fans can scream from the high mountains, but that will not do anything. it comes back to the FO to make the necessary improvement.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) btw go to an earlier post today, he came out of no where to post what he did. furthermore in my defense, a certain person accuse me of something, i asked him to provide the proof. again, if i have indeed been wrong, i have always come back to that post and acknowledge my mistake without spewing out B/S.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:34 PM) If 2016 is a development year then trade Sale,Q and Abreu. Get it over with already. You cant afford to waste years of their youth/contracts to try and see if any of the players besides Rodon can become anything decent. That's a waste. there has to be a happy medium and only hahn will be able to figure it out. we as fans can make all the guesses we can.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) yeah right, if he was questioning the logic, then he should have posted it without my name attached, further more, there was someone else, why did he need to address me out. that was a rhetorical question. now past post of other topics does present a recurring theme. so he has used this forum as a way to attack .... that is how i am coming to my conclusion. i believe i have establish myself as a posters who can take when i am wrong, without any venom spewing. in fact i go out of my way so no one can accuse me of this. btw go to an earlier post today, he came out of no where to post what he did.
