This game has been pretty entertaining, great vision/pass from Sharp after Khabby pulled a Jose Valentin on the roller towards him. - like the cross referencing between teams? I go all out, pure hustle.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) DT needs to get Hossa...not only to help the team offensively but to help Havlat get interested again. They were close friends in Ottawa..so who knows. Won't happen of course but a guy can dream right? I agree with what your saying, but Robert Lang was supposed to be the guy who made Marty "happy." They played with the Czech National team together and were friends? Seriously, this guy needs to stop worry about being "happy" and start scoring goals, maybe when the Hawks are crazy popular in the city because they're winning will make Marty "happy".

Of course he scores to make me look like a prick... thanks asshole.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) I was just going to say that the only real negative about that 1st period was Havlat's lazy, disinterested, sloppy play. He really is playing like a guy who's either afraid out there or has quit on the team. He just took a stupid penalty as well. At least he got on the scoresheet somehow. He's playing disinterested... trying feather passes between defenders instead of using his skill to draw defenders to him. No Excuses, he's a guy who could be a SUPERSTAR in the league.
-
Norrena played absolutely horrible that period, Seabrook and Buff had s***ty goals. I have a strange feeling that the hawks are going to go on a little roll here (4/5 wins). Marty Havlat could make this team alot better if played at all like he gave a s***.

QUOTE(A's fan @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) just heard you guys might go after my dubs Mikeal Pietrus and Al Harrington. I dont believe it but if it happens it better be something good. I read that somewhere too... I think that was just Sam Smith doing what he loves to do, achieving Sexual Completion via trade ideas.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) This time next year, Harris will probably be the better PG. He's certainly better defensively IMHO, than Kidd. But the Mavs are going to get Stackhouse back when he's bought out by the Nets, and there's an Antoine Wright for a 2nd rounder deal also supossedly happening. Now they've somehow got to trade Vince Carter, so they can start the rebuilding. Harris is an excellent get for them though. I think your right on with that one. It seems like a reactionary move from the Mavericks, after Shaq and Pau went west. Only I'd rather have Shaq or Pau over J-KIDD. Marion and Harris go to the East, Shaq and Kidd to the west... maybe things will start balancing out talent wise in the conferences.

I've mentioned this earlier, but I think Montoya's value was super inflated because of his performance in the WJC. He beat Andre-Fleury (on a bizzare goal). Montoya's performance since that tournament has been pretty average. I'd take him over Crawford, only because from what I've heard... Crawford doesn't use a butterfly style (he plays a stand up style), which most goalies do and people think he will be hard for him to succeed in the league.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) Sounds like he is stable but damn that was scary for him...That was a lot of friggin blood pouring out of his neck. Reminiscent of Bourque last year... I was actually in the under belly of the UC while he was walking (running) towards the trainers room. Scary stuff, hockey player's worst nightmare. Glad to hear he was ok.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Wallace for Q-Rich, Rose and Fred Jones I heard. Depends how desperate the Bulls are to get rid of him I suppose. One of Curry, Wallace and Randolph would have to come off the bench also which would be quite hilarious to watch. If Ben just wants to stay healthy, lose, and collect a paycheck... he's gonna love NY.

QUOTE(JFields27 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) I dont see Sopel leaving after a contract extension .. cant wait to watch Toews tonight Sharp signed a contract extension too... still if the right deal came along for him, i'd listen.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 09:51 AM) Yes. It's a combination of looking like he doesn't care at all, along with being very timid on the ice. You can actually see it in his game, he is afraid of contact. He just isn't explosive anymore. Thats just on the ice. He makes 6 million, and is supposedly trouble in the locker room. If someone still sees something in Marty, and you can get a decent player back with a small contract, you jump on it. That pretty encapsulates the whole situation with Havlat... there just hasn't been the type of effort/consistency/leadership shown to justify paying him 6mil - it especially hurts when the team is losing and we can't score. Marty is no doubt a fantastic talent, probably one of the 5 most talented players in the league... but this year he has been mentally beaten, and he has looked invisible for games at a time.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) Also -- Williams isn't going to be back for a while, so Ruutu should certainly be top six at least until then. He's actually scheduled to be back next Sunday, and assuming he's actually healthy i think he will help balance out the offense as it was earlier in the season.

The Untouchables: Kane Toews Keith Seabrook Sharp, Wiz, Havlat, Sopel, Lang all have their varying degrees of value but still.... if theres a deal to be made, been nice knowing ya.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) Ruutu wasn't scoring, but the line was dominant. Ruutu was opening up space for Kane and Toews just by hitting everything in site. Ruutu's also one of the better players on this team at mucking in the corners -- guys like Lang, Havlat and (to an extent) Sharp don't do that. They certainly don't hit like Ruutu does, either. I'll continue to say that Ruutu has the skill-set to score goals. He hasn't this year, but there's no reason -- with other good players, not third line muckers -- that Ruutu can't or won't score goals. He's 24 years old. Obviously if he starts asking to be paid big money this offseason, you go in a different direction. But for now, there's really no reason Ruutu shouldn't be playing in the top six. Ruutu - Toews - Kane was "dominant" for about 10-15 games in the beginning of the year and then they didnt register any points for two weeks. Tuomo has good hands, and a good shot.... but I don't think he's a good enough skater to score consistently in the league (maybe a result of knee injuries). When Rudy brings the energy, throws his body around, hes a good player to have on the team... but that's not a given. To take a line from your own argument, he should play top six "for now" when the team is barely keeping themselves in the race. A good team, would have Ruutu producing or playing 3rd line minutes. Williams Lang Havlat Sharp Toews Kane Ruutu Perrault Byfuglien/Bourque these lines make more sense in my opinion, when Jason Williams heals up

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 08:33 AM) Khabibulin stepped it up last night and looked like a #1 goaltender being paid 6.5 mill per season. If the Hawks want to hang onto any SLIM chance of competing for a playoffs spot this year, Bulin has to be at his best. I have a lot of doubt that he could step it up considering he'd lost 10 in a row before last night... but if he does, we still have a chance with Toews close. Toews better be healthy... thats all I care about. If he's just coming to play on special teams... its the worst coaching decision I've ever seen.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 09:20 AM) Why Ruutu hasn't been on the first two lines all season is mind boggling. I'm the biggest Ruutu apologist ever... but there is no way defend the way he played earlier in the year. He didn't deserve to play on the top 2 lines, because he wasn't willing to play the kind of power forward role Savvy designed for him. Yes, he's played better, with more energy and more physicality, but he still hasnt scored a goal in 24 games! He's gone more than a quarter of the season without a GOAL! I love rudy, I think he's been injured a major portion of his career which has hampered his development... but he's third line player on a good team.
-
I hope Ben and his "wrist" stay on the bench a little longer... Thabo is a little bit of a spaz when he dribbles, but at 6'6 he actually poses a threat to defend somebody. This is a huge win tonight, Chris Duhon is an undervalued commodity in Chicago... he plays hurt, plays hard and every once in awhile puts up a nice game like this.... although the gem he played tonight was something special.
-
This is why Savvy shouldn't have ever been giving the coaching job... seriously its horrible that they're going to have to fire this guy. He's a Hawk Legend, loves the organization, and has been loyal... but he's seriously holding this team back. I just don't think he's technically, pardon my pun "savvy" enough to be a head coach in the NHL... he ran the power play for a couple of years - its consistently ranked last or next to last in the league. If DT had hired Ted Nolan instead of Trent Yawney... this team would have progressed much quicker than they have. Oh well, hindsight 20/20, all that good stuff. EDIT: Yes I know the Islanders are struggling this year... i still think nolan is a great coach, who may or may not have had sex with Dominik Hasek's wife.

Both playing the prevent defense.... I think that will benefit Barack Obama, consdiering he has the momentum going into Super Tuesday. Hillary was supposedly licking her chops in anticipation of getting Obama in a debate 1-on-1. Interesting night, I guess I should have expected this going into Super Tuesday, I guess Hillary didn't see any benefits from attacking his Illinois Senate record etc... without Edwards to play mediator between the two, it probably would have looked sinister and petty .
-
Obama and Hillary taking turns giving each other fellatio... I wonder what happened behind the scenes to create all this good will? They were at each others throats up days ago... now fighting for the same mission? Please, I don't buy it. Maybe an agreement to run as a the winner's VP ticket?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) You're sort of playing with fire if you decided to trade Bulin right now, unless you're getting a goalie back. I really liked the idea of trading with Ottawa, and getting Redden and Emery back, but there really isn't any reason for them to take on Bulin. If you trade Nik, Lalime is a FA after the season, and he isn't the answer in net either, long term anyway. Crawford looks like he could be a good one, but he is still years away from being a cup contending goalie, if he ever gets there at all. So if you trade Nik, you're basically telling everyone you need a goalie. Thats a risky deal in Free Agency. What happens if Bryzgala signs back with PHX, and Huet goes to Pitt or something? Then what? Tallon is in a tough spot with the G situation. Hopefully they sort it out, because that could be the key to everything next season. I understand what your saying, but i'm just not sure how to reconcile 33rd in GAA 39th in SV%... Lalime (unless he takes the hawks deeep in the playoffs) isnt going to command major money and would probably stay in town if offered the starting position. Khabby is costing 6.75 million dollars for the remainder of this season and the next.... unless he is providing consistent play, which he's not, you dont risk much gambling on the offseason when what you have costs sooo much and gives back soo little.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) Sassone in his latest article made a good point also, after Khabibulin, do the Hawks have a goalie who is going to take them to a Stanley Cup? If they can't sign a Huet in FA, then probably not. I don't think Crawford is probably going to be the guy. I wouldn't mind targeting Al Montoya from the Rangers, who's stuck behind Lundqvist. I actually got a chance to play with Montoya in High School once, so I'd love to see him come back in play for his hometown team... but I'm not sure he isn't the product of some considerable hype (beating Fleury in the WJC). Crawford is a stand-up style goalie, which concerns me... I think he also would rely on a strong defense to limit quality chances - but he has been impressive in the A Khabby is a temperamental guy... he might accept his role for the time being but down the line he will be b****ing about playing time. He's not a workhorse goalie as Savard said when he took over the team last year, he gives the Hawks no better chance of winning a playoff series than Lalime does (and I know you can cite stats to prove otherwise) but Lalime is a bigger goalie, more agile, and is playing with a chip on his shoulder. If you can get an offensive or defensive piece to help this team, and you get rid of Khabby (maybe even giving up a barker/bolland/brouwer to sweeten the deal) you do it.
