  1. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) I think corporations should not be allowed to donate any money to any candidate or issue whatsoever. What about Unions? Political Action Committees? Aren't those groups equally insidious?
  2. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,224679,00.html The Generalisimo has his own big mouth to thank for this. He just couldn't stop taking those nasty swipes at the United States and President Bush and, predictibly, it turned off a bunch of moderate states that probably would have otherwise voted for him, even though he tried to buy them off with cut rate petroleum and other fuels. Now, he's forced to throw his mouth...er I mean weight....behind his drug running pal Evo Morales and Bolivia. All he's doing is putting a different face on the same animal and methinks it won't get very far.
  3. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 07:53 PM) How is the ACLU telling you what's good for you or not? They're stepping in to prevent the government from doing so. They're doing it by deciding for themselves that we dont need certain laws and taking upon themselves to try to get them eliminated in spite of the fact that it was passed by a vote of 98-1 in the Senate.,........... http://www.cdt.org/publications/pp_4.25.html .........and signed into law by President Clinton.
  4. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) And he would pursue legitimate debate on the merits of the Fair Tax, including the exploration of strategies to ensure that it is not effectively a regressive tax program. What is your idea of a "Fair Tax". I've heard that label used for both a flat tax and the most steep of "progressive" tax curves.
  5. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) Actually, I was just QFT what Crimson said. Again: How is the ACLU telling you what's good for you or not? They're stepping in to prevent the government from doing so. You also didn't address how poorly written this law is or the fact that it hasn't been enforced even once in 8 years. I don't see how it's not being enforced when pretty much any porn site out there requires a credit card number for site access. If this law is made invalid then that would go away. By "enforced" do you mean nobody has been prosecuted under it? This is a classic case of the ACLU siding with the wrong people to thwart common sense and decency.
  6. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) SHHHH! TEH ACLU = TEH SATANS!!!!!11!1! Can't refute the message? Just make fun of the messenger. Brilliant.
  7. I totally hear ya about this channel. Before it was ESPN Classic it was "Classic Sports Network" when it debuted in the late 90's ( 1997 or 1998 I think ) and it was AWESOME!!! I would get off work and click it on and there would be a great NHL Playoff game going ( who remembers "Frozen in Time" with Al Trautwig? ) , or a classic baseball game from the 60's or something, or MJ hitting the game winning shot against the Cavs in 1988 or a series of season reviews for the Bears in the 80's and 90's. Now it's all bulls***. They ran the world series of poker this whole last weekend for chrissakes. ESPN bought out this network and totally ruined it. I totally agree guys that this network has so much potential but it was totally spoiled.
  8. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) The thing is that the death penalty cannot be properly imposed because human beings are by nature imperfect creatures and prone to making mistakes and having biases. A completely color blind/economics blind etc. system is a pipe dream. Add in the fact that the sheer cost of capital punishment cases is skyrocketing comparatively to life w/out parole and we've got another big reason. And oh yes, the whole "life is sacred" thing that the majority of this country claims to believe in, especially those that are anti-abortion. People cannot lose their innate sanctity of life at a certain age or because of a certain act. Either you believe in the sanctity of life for all people or don't believe in it at all. Unlike you, I believe in removing these parasites from society permanentely. I love how people like you go off constantly citing how much capital punishment costs when it is YOU that drive up the cost of it with years and years of frivolus motions, appeals and other legal manuevers all with the single aim of delaying justice. Oh, by the way, that same majority that believes in the sanctity of life ( innocent life that is being snuffed out via abortion to be more accurate ) also believes in dispensing with society's worst criminals.
  9. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) I for one support our government overlords ruling down from on high about the things we peons can and cannot view. Who needs parents to actually supervise their children and have effective communicative relationships? Bah to that! More government from the party of less government I say, more! "Harmful to children", "community standards"? You don't allow that sort of loose language in a f***ing gym membership contract for f***'s sake. Talk about vague. "Oh I'm sorry, you had an independent thought that was not in line with the current government in power and that could be harmful if children see it and learn to think for themselves. So here's your 6 month jail sentence and your $50,000 fine." But please, let's just put a few anti-ACLU buzz words in there and I'm sure that'll appease the people who kneejerk don't like the ACLU Cuz who needs little things like facts and logic when you have BUZZWORDS! Who needs little things like helping keep porn away from children when you have the ACLU telling people what's acceptable and what's not. YEAH!!! Who needs little things like, oh I dont know, sanity and common sense when you have LCR and his precious ACLU telling us what's good for us and what's not. YEAH!!!
  10. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) I don't understand the draw with Obama. He's half black, he's a liberal and he might run for President.
  11. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) I got home yesterday and there was a box from the White Sox. Inside was every giveaway they had all year. There was 3 hats, a little jersey,a large WS trophy, flag ,cards,a ring and a ton of other things. Did anyone else get this. What a nice touch! He said "BOX"
  12. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_4539917?source=rss President Clinton signs a law requiring some form of proof of age like a credit card number or such to access online porn or other offensive material. Your ACLU, that great protector of our rights is now suing to stop it. Shocking.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) It sure fails on the rehabilitate part. Nah. A dead criminal will never sin again. It's actually the perfect form of rehabilitation.
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) Lobbyists represent a special interest, made up of some part of the population. Politicians have a need to see what certain lobbys think, to fully represent the best interests of their voters and of the nation. Therefore, to me, they are a positive and need to stay. The problem comes in with the money - they influence with the dollar. That is the part you need to take out. To me, the answer needs to be almost absolute. Say, nothing more than the cost of dinner, per day. Beyond that, any spending MUST be from the annual donations as I noted earlier from individuals, or from government dollars given to all of Congress for basic business expenses. We're on the same page here. Unfortunately, politicians like their perks and campaign donations so you'll never get rid of one without getting rid of the other.
  15. -Conservative -Belives in low taxes and government spending. -Wants to abolish/privatize government social programs. -Wants to actually follow the 10th Amendment and return powers not specifically delegated to the Federal Government to the states. -Believes in a strong national defense. Peace through strength. -Believes in sweeping tort reform. Rein in greedy lawyers and their frivolus lawsuits by implementing a "loser pays" system as well as strict caps on damages. -Anti-abortion save for cases of rape/incest or to save the life of the mother. -Believes in punishing criminals as opposed to coddling them. -Believes in a secure border/punishing those who hire illegals/border fence/punishing the Mexican government for encouraging drug smuggling/illegal immigration. -Wants to embark on a crash program to develop new primary source of energy to replace petroleum as both a national security issue as well as an environmental one. -Someone who brings an end to affirmative action and passes legislation to completely eliminate race as a factor in hiring/university admissions and any other forms of preference. Make this a merit based society.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) I was thinking about prison sentences and all they are suppose to do: Protect Society from the individual Protect Society from others like this individual (making an example) Rehabilitate offender Satiate society's thirst for revenge/justice Satiate the victim's thirst for justice/revenge Balancing this is the cost, both human, and monetary that locking someone up and rehab programs cost. Wow, how we ever get that right is beyond me. If it's properly imposed, the death penalty accomplishes all of those things. Its too bad our society doesn't have the guts to bury those who deserve it.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) Adlai Stevenson, Jim Thompson . . . Jim Edgar. As for this year..........I said I was voting straight Republican but I think whoever the Libertarian candidate is will get my vote in this contest to see who the tallest midget is. I expected more from Topinka. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) And she smells. And you know this how?
  18. http://money.cnn.com/2006/10/23/news/newsm...dex.htm?cnn=yes Despite constant claims otherwise, there IS justice for those who commit corporate fraud.
  19. My question is what significance does this hold when it's more than 2 years before the next prez election and neither person is known to be their respective party's candidate?
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) Want to know the scary thing? I'll be right out there that weekend as well. Field trip through part of the Mojave & Owens Valley. If you know where Ft. Irwin is that's where I'll be from Friday up until the day before Thanksgiving.
  21. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) It's really simple northside, people of Nuke's leaning yearn for confrontation wherever they can find it. Yeah and people of your leaning are only too happy to provoke it. /rolly
  22. Another absentee ballot for me as I will be in the middle of the Mojave Desert on election day. All Republicans for me with the exception of Lipinski for Congress.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) Really? Besides, this is just obfuscating the point. Whether its 20k or 40k, I wasn't really talking about gun violence. I am talking about your willingness to write off an entire nation, religion, creed or any other category because of the actions of some members of those categories. If you really believe in personal responsbility as you claim, then how about judging people on THEIR actions, and not that of their neighbors. Yeah, you make it sound as if there are 30K gun murders a year. Lumping in suicides and accidents skews the comparison. I do believe strongly in personal responsibility and it bothers me when people are unwilling to stand up and call for change when murder, bombings, terrorism, blatant discrimination against women and an overall lack of tolerance for anything but their own view of things dominates.
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) And you will be just as accurate as someone who thinks that Americans are a bunch of violent, gun-crazy lunatics, because 30,000 people have died so far this year from gunshot wounds. In both cases, the shoe fits for some people, and not others. Some of us choose not to apply the actions of a few to an entire religion or nation. That figure of 30,000 is totally innacurate.
