Yawn. Somebody wake me up when our offense shows up. :sleep

With a Reds win today, the Cubs also fall to 3rd place. Remember the Trib article at the beginning of the season asking if the Cubs will win 100 games? No. No they won't.

Any chance Ozzie has another neice that is engaged to Albert Pujols? That dude is a f***ing ballplayer! :fthecubs

And I don't think the Cards need to bean anybody. The Cubs have already gotten a message sent to them with these embarrassing two losses. No need to give them any fire with a bench clearing brawl and lose players to suspension in the process.

Chip Caray is a dolt. An inning after they trash the field, he praises Cub fans for being loyal through thick and thin.
-
Yes, the Yankees line-up is grossly overpaid and overrated.... ....but this belongs in the Sportsbar.
-
Albert Pujols = Good Solo Homer Ok, I'm done here. I've spent way too much time talking about the Cubs today.

Make that 7. :fyou

Matt Morris = Bad. Gives up 6 in the 2nd. :fthecubs

Elk Grover here (live about 3 miles away from the proposed Bears site). The reason the Bears stadium deal fell through was that the town wanted nothing to do with it. The mayor, Craig Johnson, actively protested against this and the O'Hare expansion, citing that the citizens of Elk Grove wished to remain a quiet community for small families and wouldn't want the development that came along with a sports venue. The largest fear with the Bears stadium was the traffic and the drunks (not sure why drunks would want to wander the streets of Elk Grove). And being that Cub fans have a reputation of a frat party, I doubt a move to that area would fly. As for the exact location, the plan was to build it on the Busse farm which is directly located across the street from a Lou Malnati's Pizzeria on Higgins.

That's really the thing here. I'm not big on player showboating (I don't even like it when El Caballo does it) but then again, I recognize it as part of the game. But, if it were Prior or Wood yelling at Edmonds, I wouldn't have much of a problem here. The point is that Zambrano should be the absolute last person to be b****ing about being shown up. Case in point: when he flipped out at Todd Walker (his own teammate, mind you) on the field earlier this year. In regards to Cub hatred, the only two guys I don't like are Zambrano and Sosa. All the others are mostly just overrated, but I basically have no problem with them.

Thing I'm liking most about tonights game: all the runs that aren't coming from the long ball. Did we have any that didn't come off a homer at Oakland?

Thank you EY.

As a person who is not a big Schoeneweis fan, I'm sure pleased with the way he's pitching right now. Knock on wood, of course. :banghead

Good sign: We got Chad f***ing Allen out.

They keep showing Buck Showalter and I keep thinking of that Seinfeld episode where George changes the Yankees uniform material to cotton. Great performance in there by both Showalter and Danny Tartabull. Good eye Sandy.

AROW playing out of his mind!

Of course I'll root for them to beat the Twins. I'm just sayin that with the amount of times that we have to play the Tigers, we better be up to the task. Either way, we gotta beat the Rangers first. Common Aaron!!!
-
Sorry if this has already been talked about in some previous thread, but am I the only one seriously concerned about the Tigers? We played like s*** against them last year when they were one of the worst teams in baseball. I'm kind of scared to see how we'd do now that they are playing some good ball while displaying some heart. Just ranting here.

Although I thought Rauch committed a big no-no in baseball standards by leaving that game early, I think the problem most people had with him was that he sucked. The guy already had a couple arm surgeries and from anything we've seen of him up in the big leagues, he's looked like absolute crap. A fastball that tops out around 93, a mediocre curveball and inconsistent control is not going to lead us to success. Personally, I think we actually got a steal in this trade. We traded two vanishing prospects who's chances seem to be running out for a guy who was an all-star as early as last year. Even if Everett turns out to be an absolute failure, I think we got the maximum value for what we traded.

Happened to me too. DJ started stuttering and then, poof, it was gone. Came back on and Maggs was being greeted in the dougout. I sure hope this Comcast station we have next year is better than FSN.

From Barry Rozner in this morning's Daily Herald. Prior thoughts: warning signs were all there Posted Friday, July 16, 2004 By Barry Rozner The worst-kept secret in baseball this year was that Mark Prior had an elbow problem. In fact, it hasn't been much of a secret in any place but Chicago, where the Cubs insisted - and everyone wanted to believe - that it was Prior's Achilles that kept him out of action for months. Never mind that Prior had his elbow checked for damage during spring training. Never mind that once he came back, his breaking pitches were never the same as last year, a sign that his elbow was hurting. Never mind that the Cubs pushed him back and started him Thursday on eight days' rest. Never mind all the red flags and all the denials from the Cubs. The truth is no one gets shut down for two months - entirely shut down - because of an Achilles' injury, and that's how everyone in baseball knew Prior had elbow trouble. Too bad there isn't a dollar in hand for every time a player - current or former - said to us, "I've never heard of a guy taking two months off because of a heel.'' But no one in Chicago wanted to believe it, just like no one wants to hear about pitch counts and abuse of young arms, but Prior was abused last year and you're seeing the results of it now. None of this is a surprise, not in the least. In fact, the only surprise Thursday was that the Cubs didn't claim Prior was OK and would miss only 1 start, which is their stock line in these cases. Not only is Prior not OK, but history tells us sore elbows can lead to Tommy John surgery and a long time on the shelf. And even if it's not surgery, Prior seems destined to miss many more starts, perhaps even the rest of the season. Let's hope that's not true because Prior is a once-in-a-lifetime pitcher and it'd be a shame to see him miss even another month, let alone an entire year or two. But if that's the case, the Cubs can stop worrying about what they need to get to the World Series.

Ok, I guess it was just me.

And Leean Tweeden was on tonight. What's the point of having these hot women on if you can't see them? If they are gonna get a bunch of people to sit around and talk to each other, then they could at least find some funnier people.
