They are 2-3 starters and an entire bullpen from me being too worried about them. The potential is there though.

Ok, now that we have that solved... ...why is it that Donald Duck wore a towel around his waste when he came out of the shower? I mean, he never wore any freakin pants!
-
Actually, my bad...it was the NY Daily News. Add me to the :dips*** list.
-
Even better...it was in the NYPost.
-
Respectable sources are wrong, more often then not. I trust him a hell of a lot more than the people on this board. You know, he's actually, uh, close to the situation.
-
Can I give a big :dips*** to most of the people on this thread? Man, you people will jump on any f***ing rumor thrown at you.
-
What would you consider him? I'm not disputing that. In referring to fathom's previous post that we should have gotten a starting pitcher for him, I'm just saying that with the market that there is right now for pitchers, nobody is going to give up a good one for a player that is a dime a dozen like Carlos Lee. Then again, it all depends on how much you value Carlos Lee. I, for one, liked him, but didn't think he was much of a difference maker. So, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this, I guess.

Carlos would not have gotten us a starting pitcher (at least not one worth a damn). Starting pitchers: High commodity Power hitting LF: Not so much

Did you ever think that maybe thats all we could have afforded to offer? Throwing 21 million over 3 years to a mediocre pitcher doesn't sound like a cheap move to me. If Kenny was doing this just to pretend that we were interested in spending money, what is the point of doing that? That would be a lose/lose situation. He'd be better off not trying at all. That would be a dumb professional move, and I'm positive that Kenny is smart enough to not even think about that.
-
He did it to make room for a starter. Why do you think we even made an offer for Clement? You think he'd do that just to dupe us? Please.

Thank you.

This whole "going nuts on Kenny at SoxFest" thing sounds a bit immature. Don't you guys have anything better to do? I'm pissed about this too. But 1. There are still other players out there and still time to get them, and 2. I sure ain't gonna throw a hissy fit over something a GM of a major league baseball team did or didn't do. I understand being passionate, but this is a little overboard. Take a pill.

I'd agree with you, but it's not like we're asking Timo to be our everyday right fielder here. He saved our ass a few times coming off the bench last year. If I remember correctly, he made some big hits for the Mets in the time he was in New York. I don't think he's anything special, but I just don't see how having him as a bat off the bench hurts us at all.
-
Left handed bat off the bench, made clutch hits in big games, only one year. Why not?

This has been an uneventful day. :sleep

You ever get the feeling that Steven A. Smith is yelling at you? Man, that guy is irritating.

Ya sure this isn't the RED Sox? It is from the Boston Herald.

If the Sox lose out on Clement, it would most likely be to one of those teams. So you could probably remove one of them out of the running for Perez. I think, if we really do want Perez, we'd have a decent shot at him.

If only your law firm knew what you do at this time of night.

Actually, Penny's arm might just be falling off. If I remember correctly, he's had some arm troubles and had a pretty bad shoulder injury shortly after the Dodgers made the trade for him. Still, the whole trade definitely makes little sense on the Dodgers end. Consider that they traded Mota and Loduca to get Penny and that Brazoban was/is supposed to be Mota's replacement as the set-up man to Gagne...this would be sacrificing too much for Vasquez and prospects. Historically, the Dodgers aren't the team to be making cap space moves either.

1. The Big Unit is not a Yankee...yet. 2. It isn't always the money. Case in point: Jermaine Dye.

This just popped up on ChicagoSports.com Sox in thick of Clement bidding By Bob Foltman Tribune staff reporter December 16, 2004, 11:27 PM CST Their initial offer doesn't match those of other teams, but the White Sox are still in the running to sign free-agent pitcher Matt Clement, according to Clement's agent. Clement, who was 9-13 with a 3.68 ERA with the Cubs last season, is sifting through his offers and hopes to make a decision soon, agent Barry Axelrod said. One of those offers is believed to be a three-year deal from the Sox for roughly $21 million. Axelrod confirmed the Sox have made an offer and termed it "competitive." "Anyone on the list is still in it," Axelrod said. Having lost Pedro Martinez to the New York Mets and with Curt Schilling's early-season health a question mark, the Boston Red Sox are said to have offered a three-year deal worth $24 million. Anaheim, Arizona and Cleveland also are believed to have made offers. Clement, 30, made $6 million last season with the Cubs and owns a lifetime record of 69-75 with a 4.34 ERA. He was the Cubs' most effective pitcher through the first half of last season, when Mark Prior and Kerry Wood were injured, but abysmal run support probably cost him four or five wins. Neck and shoulder problems hampered him after the All-Star break. While the White Sox have not offered the most money, they do have a couple of advantages. One is Clement's familiarity with and fondness for the city. "He loves Chicago," Axelrod said. "He would have preferred to stay with the Cubs." Signing with the White Sox could be the next best thing, reducing transition concerns for Clement and his family. Axelrod said he has talked to Clement about signing with certain teams and the pressure that would follow if he's perceived as "the savior." In Boston he would be penciled in as a replacement for Martinez, a former Red Sox icon who has won three Cy Young awards. He would be viewed as the staff ace in Cleveland and perhaps in Arizona if the Randy Johnson trade to the New York Yankees is finalized. With the White Sox, however, Clement would likely be slotted in the middle of the rotation, behind Freddy Garcia and Mark Buehrle. Axelrod said lifestyle factors would play as big a role in which team Clement chooses as the amount of money offered. "He may end up going to the biggest bidder," Axelrod said. "But it won't be because they are the biggest bidder." Copyright © 2004, The Chicago Tribune

Not to mention that the report also had the Dodgers sending Brazelbon and Brad Penny as part of the trade. Losing their two best hitters in Beltre (through FA) and Green, a starting pitcher and a good reliever on the same day sounds a bit much for just settling for Vasquez. I can see why they'd back out of this deal. That is unless they are planning on making a big run at Beltran.

I can't tell if you are overly negative or overly optimistic.

For what its worth, his agent also said that we may know Clement's choice within hours.
