Signed up for that a couple weeks ago and if I end up getting any free time where I'm not on a client I'll be watching from my laptop at work.

Annual Soxtalk NCAA Bracket
I'm in.

MLB 2K7
Sounds like way too many glitches. I may just have to pass on a baseball game this year and it kills me to say that cause I don't know the last time I didn't have a baseball game.

Rowand to the Sox??
On a sidenote...if we acquire another starter and Danks/Floyd pitch well would anyone be shocked if Kenny was just picking up another arm which basically gave him the right to move Buehrle or another starter. Maybe Kenny and Mark have talked in close doors and came to an understanding that regardless a contract won't work. For example, the two sides tried things this past week and in the end Mark wasn't willing to go 4 years unless he got like 18 mill per year and Kenny was understanding considering the market and the two have stayed quiet and now we look for another starter and than quickly move one of ours (I'm not saying it will happen or that this has happened, but if we are acquiring a starter my guess is there is a chance it would be to open up the gates for another one of our starters to head out or at least buy Danks a bit more time in the minors and Floyd more time to work on the changes he's made).

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) Is there any way that Iowa can still hang a banner? We'll just have to hang a....finished better in conference play than a few teams that go into the tourney banner

The Midwest Bracket (St. Louis)
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) KU beat Florida Maybe I'm mistaken, but wasn't Florida going through the flu/injuries when the two teams played (not to lessen it, just to say that I don't think the two teams have played each other at 100% yet).

Rowand to the Sox??
I don't mind the names the Sox would be getting, but I don't see the logic in it. Phils would want major league talent and I don't see those guys being worth giving up major league talent to get. Good to see that tidbit on Hermy in that article about how good he's been pitching.

Sox @ Seattle, March 11
QUOTE(TheOcho @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't he with us last year in ST aswell? I don't know if he played at all with the big club, but yes, we had him last year and he played the entire minor league season down in Kanny, IIRC. Orlando is very very fast, but Gomes is the better of the Brazilian prospects this system has.

Ya, Fullerton isn't going. I forgot they switched to 32 teams so Fullerton really had no chance after they lost 4 of there last 5 games to piss away the conference championship and everything else that mattered. f***ing bs, no one can tell me Iowa isn't one of the best 99 teams in the country...no one.

Flying Under The Radar
f*** f*** f***....CSUF takes a huge s*** this weekend and gets swept by an unranked team. Out of the top 10 we will go.

The Midwest Bracket (St. Louis)
I don't see what is so bad about Florida being the overall #1. They are defending national champs and played like it all year, sans one small stretch and they completely took care of business in the conference tourney. I don't think UNC or KU should be ahead of them and I think you could make a case for OSU but I think Florida has the better resume.

When do we find out whose in? For example...Iowa and Cal State Fullerton.

The West Bracket (San Jose)
I love it...I'll have the Bruins in the final 4. They may be my national champs too, although I'm not 100% on that yet. Zags over IU. I actually have Duke going farther than I thought I would.

Bubble Teams
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) Stanford beat 5 solid tourney teams, I don't see why everyone is up in arms over them getting in. I have them knocking down Ville too. They are better than all of the bubble teams and a decent number of teams in the tourney. The Pac 10 was just ridiculously good this year.

IF Mac stays healthy we won't regret that trade. Although at least the prospect we gave up also has had some health issues. That said I love Tyler's arm and attitude when he is on the mound and healthy. And like most deals it was a fair trade from both sides.

Sox @ Seattle, March 11
I'm not sure, cause I remember Whis going ahead of Liotta and just checked BA and they had Whisler ahead of Liotta and I know Whisler got a larger signing bonus which would indicate the same. I think the Sox site is wrong. Marques brother is in. Speaking of brothers, isn't it the mariners that have Nomar's little brother? I haven't paid attention, has he been living up to his hype?

Sox @ Seattle, March 11
QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) He was the 4th of the lefties taken early in 04, right? I still wish we could have kept Lumsden. Wesley just let them back in it. Maybe he should convert to offense... Whisler was taken 3rd, behind Gio and Lumsden and than Liotta went after. That was actually a pretty damn good draft by the Sox, considering we also took Russell, Harrell, & Egbert in that draft and Fields is actually looking like a first rounder that might produce. Wes started finding the zone a bit. He does get the ball down and uses his height to help him when he's on. Despite giving up 4 runs I am glad to see his motion has consistently gotten better each season I've seen him pitch.

Sox @ Seattle, March 11
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) Whisler looks great. His motion looks better and more fluid but the location hasn't been there and he still shows me that while he has an assload of pitches, none of them are very good.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) So? I guarantee more teenagers grow up aspiring to be baseball players within the Dominican Republic. If Orlando and Gomes is the best we could find in a country with 180 million people, that's either an indictment on our scouts or the players being produced within the country. Which is it? Dude...seriously, Gomes is the exact type of guy you've been b****ing for the Sox to pick up. We gave him a lot of money and the guy is thought of very highly by numerous scouts. Whisler takes a huge s*** this inning.

Sox @ Seattle, March 11
Wes looked good when I saw him last spring, interested to see how he does now. He was a terrible pick when we got him (given when we took him, way too early) but he has a bevy of pitches and what was considered a projectable arm for a college kid (was a two way player in college...who for most of his career was considered a better hitter than pitcher).

Sox @ Seattle, March 11
And flash...considering there are athletes all over the world, maybe its good the Sox are one of the few teams checking out Brazil. Its a place where the Japanese leagues have scouted and if we can be ahead of the trend and able to get some real good talents in an area that isn't as heavily mined, the dividends could pay off big time (I mean its international scouting and your always saying the Sox should do it more). Obviously we have other places to scout too and Ozzie will help the organization a lot in Venezuela (and I guarantee that) and our Dominican scouting could be better but its far from terrible.

Sox @ Seattle, March 11
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) Who the hell scouts in Brazil, anyways? DJ was right -- how many major league players come from that country? I'm sure young children rather play soccer than baseball. IIRC, Gomes was given the equivalent of 2nd to 3rd round money to play with the Sox. The guy is a serious talent, but after a couple years you have to get production and he's yet to do it. He's still plenty young though and considering he was originally a pitcher there is reason to give him extra time. The other Brazillian comes through. Orlando is supposed to be very fast. On a sidenote, has that asian picther the Sox signed this off-season (Li or something) pitched at all in spring?
-
Sox @ Seattle, March 11
Watching the Mariners I'm starting to remember how bad this organization has been over the recent few years when it comes to developing its young players. They have had a good number of talented youngsters that have failed to really develop into the type of players they thought they could be.

Sox @ Seattle, March 11
The Brazillian walks. No I'm sarcastically referring to some hype BA gave Gomes. That said Gomes is pretty darn talented. But there are a lot of those type of guys and it turns out that just dont' have the fundementals to succeed. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 11, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Who's the next Soriano? Anderson Gomes Best thing I've seen all season....Razor Shines hold Paulie at 3rd. With Cora he'd have been running and the inning would be over.
