Very nice play by Garland. His command hasn't been there, but he's missing IN after giving up a few hits and thats not a bad thing since he's actually throwing inside.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 5, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) Wilbur Wood, Chicago White Sox, '72, '73, '74. #1 starter on a team that contended, albeit while falling short of the A's. Tim Wakefield: 144 game winner Charlie Hough: 216 game winner (3.75 Career ERA); He also had a 25 yr career Wilbur Wood: 4 straight 20 plus win seasons with the White Sox Obviously there aren't many that succeed, but at the same time there aren't many guys that try it (usually its a last resort). Haeger actually has a mid to upper 80's fastball and a relatively decent slider (albeit he rarely throws it) to go with the knuckler and from what I've been told he isn't that bad when it comes to holding runners (obviously they can steal at will when the knuckler is thrown, but apparently he isn't quite as slow and deliberate as Wakefield).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2006 -> 07:57 AM) After years of owning cars, im thinking seriously about getting a lease on my next one. I like to get new cars every 3 years or so, and buying them seems more expensive than leasing. What are your thoughts on both? If you get rid of them quickly than you may be better off with leasing, especially since you only pay sales tax on part of it.

How many keyboards have you had to retire during your legendary career?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 2, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) Just saw a mention of it on MLB.com. Anyone else have any details? I know Jas was planning on going to the game so he can probably offer some insight once he gets back from the game. I have no idea what the hell he did. It was neat to see, but the pitch wasn't even close. I don't know if the two had prior history, but Lackey did say something to Kendall. I guess it was something along the lines of Lackey being made that Kendall was trying ot lean into a pitch or something. Than the explosion happened.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 5, 2006 -> 06:45 AM) Read my post more closely. There is no way we would bring him up for middle relief. A knuckler basically cant pitch in relief due to the walks and the passed balls. If he came in with runners on base, there is a large chance they will score. Wakefield would be the rare exception to that rule since he did close for at least one season in Boston.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 4, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) THIS IS f***ING BULLs*** Lol, maybe everyone will be impressed if I get this done and no outage is noticed I say this now, but 20 minutes from now when I blow the thing up you'll all be saying different

I'm going to be doing a quick security patch update in 15-30 minutes. There should be minimal, if any downtime, but I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

QUOTE(THEWOOD @ May 4, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) ARE WE BACK?? The site is back online. We had some delays so all the upgrades have yet to be made. THe next and final wave will be in 7 days, but we are pushing the server company to get it done before that. After that we should be set for a long long time. We apologize for this, but we are doing our best to ensure that things will be smooth for the rest of the season and than some. -

Another Update: Soxtalk.net will likely be up in about 20 minutes and when that happens these forums will be closed for a couple days as we undergo all the upgrades. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 2, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) So it went from 1-3 days a few posts ago to 2-4 days at the beginning of your latest post to 3-4 games by the end of your post, at this rate the site will be down for a week within the hour. I should note, I'm putting in worse case scenarios. Our goal is to get everything done right and if it originally takes a bit longer, so be it, as long as we get everything set up properly. However, the front page of the site may be down for as little as an hr (depending on how long it takes for our server upgarde to go on) and than after that we'll have a temporary forum set up which could remain for as many as 3 days. We hope it will be quicker. -

QUOTE(Felix @ May 2, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) This won't effect the neighbor sites such as TalkBears, correct? Hopefully everything goes smoothly No, there will be about a 1-3 hr outage on all our network sites as we upgrade our mysql and php to more up to date versions, however once we are done with that, we will have a temporary Soxtalk site up where people can post for 2-4 days while we get the message board software updated and upgraded. It could be done faster, but worse case you all will have a spot to post game threads and all that type of stuff for 3-4 days. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 2, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) I made a comment to a NL fan recently which didn't sit well, but its something I think may just be valid. My comment was that the NL doesn't have a team I believe can win the World Series. I feel that the top 6 teams in baseball when its all said and one are all in the AL: The White Sox, Indians, Red Sox, Yankees, Athletics and Angels. I said maybe the Cardinals or Mets should be in that group, but I doubt it. Am I crazy or not? Angels are mediocre and won't even make the playoffs. Indians don't have the pitching. Red Sox and White Sox are both heavy favorites in the AL and until the Yanks find some pitching they will remain the 4th team. The A's could make a run at it. In the NL I think the Mets and Cards are the only two teams that can compete.

QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ May 2, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) I'm not going to get another Virus, am I??????????? We received an PM threatening us and are going to be watching very carefully. All passwords have been changed and we just want to make sure nothing is going on. -
Going to be sprucing up the skin in preparation for a site upgrade that should hopefully happen by the end of the week. So the default skin will be up for the time being.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 1, 2006 -> 07:23 AM) I dont see us bringing up a knuckle baller for middle relief. Its just not in the cards. If someone went down and we needed one start, I could almost see us giving Haeger that start as opposed to McCarthy (especially if its later in the year and McCarthy had just pitched). Haeger probably won't ever be a mainstay in our rotation, however, he provides very nice depth of the club and could very well be a player other teams target at the trade deadline (even though a Knuckleballer rarely is considered a top prospect, however, the way Haeger is throwing he needs to be considered just that in our system).
