QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Haha so after all this, it's not even a sure thing that Haegar will get the call, or that Count will go on the DL, or that Count will even miss a start. And worse case senario is he goes on the DL and misses 2 starts. Wonderful, I love the internet and talk radio, just a BIT too over reactive. Basically its up to the Sox. This is nothing serious...rather its pretty much stiffness of the lower back. Sox have been doing treatments (first I know of was yesterday but it could have happened before that). If they want to be careful, they sit Jose for 2 starts (with the best record in baseball we have that luxury); If Jose really is feeling good, he'll be make the scheduled start.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) I heard that too. They said it's back not hip, and it still wasn't 100% he is going on the DL. Hell we might all just wake up tomorrow and Jose is fine and Haeger is still in Charlotte. Thats exactly where it stands right now. If things don't get a lot better, they are better safe than sorry and they are taking that approach (Haeger will pitch). If Contreras makes progress with the treatments he had, he won't go on the DL.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) And that's what's still got me wondering......it'd really seem like everyone could just be bumped up with today's off day. But, I'm not a professional baseball type person. I think considering this is a very minor issue with Contreras back, typically (given today's off day) we'd just move the rest of the guys up a day, however with Ozzie being extra cautious since the pitchers threw deep into the post-season, he'd just as well give Haeger a start or two.

QUOTE(quickman @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) No disrespect to jason but have we heard anything? I see nothing on any site and I have been listening to the score for the last hour on line. Nothing. I've gotten some sort of verification. However, Jose has not been officially placed on the DL, its just the plan as of now and until he's actually placed on it, anything can happen. But I do know the plan right now is to have Haeger come up and put Jose on the DL. Considering I don't know the extent of his back injury, he could very well wake up tomorrow and be 100% and the Sox could than not go with Haeger.

QUOTE(wcw2323 @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) Still waiting for the 50 guys who were naysayers and basic lemmings today to stand up and apologize for the BS they were slinging. I chose to not divulge my source as requested...period, end of story. :finger As someone that actually defended you and added a bit of info, let me just say that I'm sure everyone appreciates the heads up on that. People in general are reluctant to trust someone on a web, but your proved your credibility. However, there are more respectful ways to say you were right. Now just tell us that you can see into the future and Haeger picks up a W on Wednesdsay

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) When he his walk totals down, let me know. 21 walks in 24 innings won't get it done. We don't want Neal Cotts debut part II. He does have nice numbers overall though. Right now, I'll take Broadway and his nice AA numbers. I know you think he's not ready, but since he is a college guy I think he's closer than a lot of people give credit for. And calling up Broadway, whose not ready, and we would be starting our 2nd best pitching prospects clock, when he isn't expected to be a mainstay in the rotation for 1-2 more years, would not be wise. Tracey's control has been much better since he moved back to the rotation.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) 6:20 SC update... SAID IT IS BACK NOT HIP, REPORTS OF HIP WERE FALSE So I was RIGHT all along
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) My choices for this are either: 1. Haeger 2. Broadway That's it. No one else would even be considered. Sean Tracey should be #2 on that list.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) Didn't he get roughed up a bit this spring, and then they had Charlie Hough work with him a bit? He's been as good as you can be at Charlotte, and was pretty good his last spring training outing. He was hammered in the spring, but finished things off with a really nice outing against the Braves. I think theyd id bring in Hough, but not positive with that.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Huh. That's pretty hard for a knuckleballer. Ya, which is why I think many in the org are intrigued with his potential. He wasn't originally a knuckler, than again most pitchers aren't, but Haeger retired from the club and than started working on a knuckler (in fact I think a coach tried to help him with it) and than he came back and boy did he come back. I believe that is Haegs story at least.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) So what's the scouting report on Haeger? He throws 90?, 95?, what? Haeger throws the knuckler (obviously), a mid to upper 80's fastball, and an ocassional slider. Also, here's an image of him pitching (you can see it on our story at FutureSox, but if this works right, it will also show up in the post).

QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) If Haeger fails, and Contreras is on the DL for a month or more, McCarthy's going to have to move back into the rotation. Hopefully, Nelson will show he still has the ability to get some righties out, and he can go into the bullpen. Haeger isn't being called up to make more than 1 or 2 starts. I think this is mainly precautionary. No reason to have him go early on and end up adjsuting his delivery because he's in pain and than having him blow his elbow or tear something in his shoulder because he's adjusting from the pain in his hip.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) BTW, did the radio reports happen to state anything about structural issues regarding the hip? It sounds like its more precautionary, but I haven't heard any of the radio reports.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) We are in a bad way right now. The no injury streak has run out and conflicting reports have Dye still hurting. F. As that conflicting report, I should reiterate that while Dye is still hurt, it isn't supposed to be a long term thing.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) s***, this got long. What's the real news? Can someone please let me know? Jose Contreras Headed to the DL; Haeger to Join Rotation By Jason Gage Soxtalk.com The Chicago White Sox are expected to place Jose Contreras on the 15 day disabled list, retroactive to May 4th. Contreras underwent an MRI on his hip and while the injury isn’t expected to be serious, he will miss at least Wednesday’s start. Charlotte RHP Charlie Haeger will be promoted from AAA Charlotte and will make Wednesday’s start. MORE

QUOTE(wcw2323 @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) I am Spartacus........yes, Tuesday would have been Haeger's next start! Haeger is going to go on Wed right?
-
Contreras to the DL; Haeger to Start More to be added to the article as I get final info from Charlotte or the Sox.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Score says he has a sore hip, had an MRI, and might go on DL. Yep. Haeger will start Wed
-
Count is on his way to the DL; Haeger will be making the start

Was Levin really on ESPN.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) It has also been brought to my attention that calling up a kunckler would require having a catcher capable of catching a kunckle-baller. Does he exist on our roster? /Bard Duh....Paul Konerko was a former catcher and is EXTREMELY athletic

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) What??and Whatt?? That was just me ribbing Rowand.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) Right, and I'd think the White Sox would want to see how Contreras' back responds to treatment, i.e. today and tomorrow and even Wed. morning because I'm guessing they're weighing a DL trip. If Jason says Contreras has been dealing with a sore back then there's [/i]something going on. But they might not announce it until Wed. morning. Given that scenario, it'd be normal to call down and alert Haeger, even get him on a plane to Chicago. They can always fly him back without doing the official call up paperwork and announcement. Lots of teams used to make these announcements between games of a doubleheader. I should just add to this, 90% sure it was the back, but 100% sure he was getting treatment on something. No idea on the serverity of it, but it didn't seem too serious (so 1 missed start makes sense and thats why Haeger is the perfect candidate). I also think your dead on that they are waiting to see how Jose responds. That said, the way things operate I'm sure they've already been in contact with Haeger and have told him to prepare (if this is true) and the plans would be for him to come in a day early (typically you do that), so if its the case my guess is you'd hear something about it tomorrow.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) I assume this means "Couldn't confirm or deny"? Exactly...it was our way of asking for official confirmation and with the Sox not announcing anything, our assumption was neither would any of our contacts at the minor league level. I think we just have to see how this plays out. My guess would be this poster (if telling the truth, either works in the clubhouse or knows Haeger) and Haeger was told to prepare as if you are starting on Wed. If Contreras is OK on Wed, Haeger stays down, if he isn't (and this poster is correct) the Sox already have the plans to fly Haeger up for the start (if this is the case, Haeger will be here no later than tomorrow).

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) From what I've gathered, Freddy Garcia has been traded for Jose Guillen and Liotta is on his way to replace Freddy in the rotation. We are also getting Ryan Church though to replace Jermaine Dye who is now out for 3 months. In all seriousness Rowand: Mario and I's source indicated to us that Contreras had some sort of injury (believed to be of the back) that was being treated yesterday after the game. Another poster said that Haeger will be called up to start on Wed (happens to be Jose's start). So while I know nothing of Contereras actually missing a start, some other poster seems to think he did and it would make sense considering what I heard about the whole treatment. And we really did trade Freddy.
