  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) s***, this got long. What's the real news? Can someone please let me know? Jose Contreras Headed to the DL; Haeger to Join Rotation By Jason Gage Soxtalk.com The Chicago White Sox are expected to place Jose Contreras on the 15 day disabled list, retroactive to May 4th. Contreras underwent an MRI on his hip and while the injury isn’t expected to be serious, he will miss at least Wednesday’s start. Charlotte RHP Charlie Haeger will be promoted from AAA Charlotte and will make Wednesday’s start. MORE
  2. QUOTE(wcw2323 @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) I am Spartacus........yes, Tuesday would have been Haeger's next start! Haeger is going to go on Wed right?
  3. Contreras to the DL; Haeger to Start More to be added to the article as I get final info from Charlotte or the Sox.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Score says he has a sore hip, had an MRI, and might go on DL. Yep. Haeger will start Wed
  5. Count is on his way to the DL; Haeger will be making the start
  6. Was Levin really on ESPN.
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) It has also been brought to my attention that calling up a kunckler would require having a catcher capable of catching a kunckle-baller. Does he exist on our roster? /Bard Duh....Paul Konerko was a former catcher and is EXTREMELY athletic
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) What??and Whatt?? That was just me ribbing Rowand.
  9. QUOTE(JimH @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) Right, and I'd think the White Sox would want to see how Contreras' back responds to treatment, i.e. today and tomorrow and even Wed. morning because I'm guessing they're weighing a DL trip. If Jason says Contreras has been dealing with a sore back then there's [/i]something going on. But they might not announce it until Wed. morning. Given that scenario, it'd be normal to call down and alert Haeger, even get him on a plane to Chicago. They can always fly him back without doing the official call up paperwork and announcement. Lots of teams used to make these announcements between games of a doubleheader. I should just add to this, 90% sure it was the back, but 100% sure he was getting treatment on something. No idea on the serverity of it, but it didn't seem too serious (so 1 missed start makes sense and thats why Haeger is the perfect candidate). I also think your dead on that they are waiting to see how Jose responds. That said, the way things operate I'm sure they've already been in contact with Haeger and have told him to prepare (if this is true) and the plans would be for him to come in a day early (typically you do that), so if its the case my guess is you'd hear something about it tomorrow.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) I assume this means "Couldn't confirm or deny"? Exactly...it was our way of asking for official confirmation and with the Sox not announcing anything, our assumption was neither would any of our contacts at the minor league level. I think we just have to see how this plays out. My guess would be this poster (if telling the truth, either works in the clubhouse or knows Haeger) and Haeger was told to prepare as if you are starting on Wed. If Contreras is OK on Wed, Haeger stays down, if he isn't (and this poster is correct) the Sox already have the plans to fly Haeger up for the start (if this is the case, Haeger will be here no later than tomorrow).
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) From what I've gathered, Freddy Garcia has been traded for Jose Guillen and Liotta is on his way to replace Freddy in the rotation. We are also getting Ryan Church though to replace Jermaine Dye who is now out for 3 months. In all seriousness Rowand: Mario and I's source indicated to us that Contreras had some sort of injury (believed to be of the back) that was being treated yesterday after the game. Another poster said that Haeger will be called up to start on Wed (happens to be Jose's start). So while I know nothing of Contereras actually missing a start, some other poster seems to think he did and it would make sense considering what I heard about the whole treatment. And we really did trade Freddy.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) My Charlotte source couldn't confirm. By confirming it would have meant the move was official though; We should note that.
  13. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) Well, in my defense, no you didn't. My questions was to whether or not his arb. clock starting would hurt his value to clubs other than the White Sox. Does that sort of contractual thing carry over to the new club? That was my question. That would not effect his trade value. Him being called up would use up an option and obviously start his clock for whichever team took him, but teams aren't going to be worried with that since he could be starting for quite a few times right now. I'm not saying he'd be successful, I can't predict how a knuckler will translate at the major league level, but quite a few teams would be using him already. If he were out of options, than he'd have little trade value, but luckily he's a few years from being in that predicament.
  14. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) Fair enough. Thanks. If you look a couple posts before, I posted why, so I didn't want to double type it being I'm all sick
  15. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) The hijack was hillarious though...props for that. Question for Jim, J: would his arbitration clock starting lower his value to other teams as well? I understand he could come up and pitch a serviceable debut, as many rookies do, but, if he came up and got bombed--which I would imagine he would--I can't quite buy things would be status quo? Now, you have a kunckler with lower value via a poor start and a started arb. clock. ...or am I off? Your off
  16. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) If Jose Contreras, the best pitcher in baseball dating back to the 2005 All-Star break, had health troubles that would merit his missing a start, it would be all over Chicago sports radio. At this point, my only vindication would be this guy's banishment. I have a very low tolerance for this trolling, playground bulls***. Well considering things have been scooped numerous times on here, well before chicago sports radio, I'd like to think there could be truth to this, especially since it goes in line what I heard this morning.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) A few comments ... 1. I doubt they would move guys up even one day, Ozzie wants to keep them as fresh and on schedule as possible, as noted by Jason and GHC. 2. Dye could be retro DL'd. 3. Based on Haeger's work in Charlotte thus far, he is the leading guy to fill in for a spot start. 4. McCarthy is just starting to settle into the bullpen, I don't think they want to mess with him. 5. Logan could easily be optioned out and called back up. 6. Addison't point is a good one but I don't think this mgmt. group is all that concerned about starting Haeger's arbitration clock. Ya, I don't think Kenny is too worried about starting Haegers arbitration clock. If we need a starter, its probably just as wise to call Haeger up. Plus I think Kenny knows if Haeger pitches a gem he's just given a knuckle baller pretty good trade value. If Charlie struggles, well than he can still kick ass down in the minors and people can chalk it up to him having debut jitters (meaning his trade value won't be hurt from a bad MLB performance).
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) Ok, so then who goes on the DL/is demoted? If its 1 start missed, I'd think they'd send Logan down since he has tons of options. Than just recall him ASAP. This is me speculating as I have no inside info on this topic.
  19. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) Hi, I'm Brandon McCarthy, the sixth/spot-starter coming out of the bullpen. I'm already with the big league club, have proven I could get major league talent out, and would not force another arbitration clock to start ticking. McCarthy won't make one start. He's our 6th starter if someone goes down for an extended time. Plus he pitched on the 6th and 7th and I don't thin kthe Sox plan on rushing him back to start as well as mess with his psychi as he works on better preparing himself for the pen.
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Moving up a guy for one start? Or moving your pitchers up one day. This is a baseless gay rumor, and needs to die. Ozzie won't move the guys up one start. If this is just an injury where Jose misses a start, I think its something Ozzie would consider, but with last years post-season run, every indication from mgmt has been that they would do there best to get there pitchers as much rest as possible. In fact, you may see them toy with a 6 man rotation later in the year if we are in control, as a way to give guys extra rest.
  21. Also you should note that Haeger did pitch very good against the Braves in that final pre-season game.
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) If there is truth to this rumor, it would seem the Sox are throwing Haeger to the wolves. Wouldnt Redding be a better spot starter, seeing as he actually has MLB experience? Depends, Haeger has kicked ass in the minors and a knuckler could be the exact type of guy that comes up and really baffles guys in his first start. Especially one who also has a pretty good fastball. Haeger could start as soon as today, however, we won't have any indication from the Charlotte end of things (in terms of a skipped start) since he isn't technically due to throw till the 10th due to 2 games being rained out this week. However, if he were to take the start on the 5th day (and those rainouts didn't happen) he would have pitched for the Knights tonight.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) Thus there is validity to this rumor? I haven't gotten any sort of verification from the minor league end (in terms of Haeger), however, I have been hinted at if the Sox were going to give a guy just 1 start it wouldn't be Bmac simply because they don't want to disrupt him while he's working on figuring out the pen (unless it was for a few starts); plus if Jose were to miss a start, Ozzie is reluctant skipping his turn since he wants to keep our starters as rested as possible due to the post-season run. However, I think there IS a potential story here and in a day we this could be a FACT.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) Spasms? I don't know more than it being a back problem. As far as Dye goes, he's still tight and is going to miss a few more games, unless his swelling goes down relatively quickly. Sorry I don't know more on the issue, but there could very well be truth to this. I wish I knew another person to verify this with on the minor end of things, but my guess is the Sox are keeping things tightly sealed right now. Edit: I want everyone to know I have no idea whether Contrera's treatment was for a back problem that has been long going or if it is something new that came up. That I could not tell you.
  25. Well we may have scooped everyone. We reported on our show that Contreras was suffering from back problems.
