News to me, he was always a pretty big fat guy, but I know he's balooned from time to time. It has long been a problem though.

I'm not too concerned with this team. I've said it all week and will continue to say it. We got a freaking great rotation, a good lineup and we'll be just fine. When the weather heats up our offense will only get better and we seem to have at least a few pitchers who also excel in the heat (Freddy, Jose). The pen will need to improve this season but I think our main weapons are all there if they can stay healthy and get on track. The question is whether the back end of the pen will pan out and I think we have two guys that can do the job potentially but there will be some ugly games thanks to our pen.
-
Plus I tend to think you may see a guy like Tyler Lumsden find his way into this pen in September and they'll find a way to potentially sneak him onto the playoff roster if he pitches like he can. He is our 2nd best lefty reliever candidate (aside from Cotts). But he'll be getting his licks in the minors since he's still very raw and missed all of last year. Well I shouldn't say raw, but he missed all of last year and until this season hasn't pitched higher than High A.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) If Bobby is going to throw strikes 96 is enough even though he's going to throw harder. I don't care how hard he's throwing if he's throwing strikes and dropping that nasty hook, he does that and he's be absolutely fine. Exactly, plus his velocity is fine. If he needed to today he could have reached back and threw a FB 98 right by someone upstairs. He was just fine. Guys that throw 98 don't have to throw it every pitch, just use it at the right time.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) He's going to need some help, like, i don't know, from maybe a leadoff hitter getting on base. With the way he's hitting right now he shoudl have so many more RBI's. On the bright side Iguchi has looked good. But god is Pods looking TERRIBLE. I berated him pretty good on my podcast this week (should be up in a bit). Don't know if you listen to it Gene, but we gave ya a shout out a week or two ago (well your site).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) Yes, but all but one of those LOOGY's are not in baseball at the moment I believe, and none of them made a major league roster at all. Not exactly elite competition. The guy is a decent lefty, probably better than the 2005 Marte, but hes still the last arm out of the pen. I don't nkow about that. Thornton seems best suited for our long inning role (especially as McCarthy starts getting used more and more as a 7th-8th inning swing man (who can and will go 2 innings, sometimes 3). Logan is probably that guy we'd go for just one batter. I don't see us doing that with Thornton. However both still need to prove themselves and Ozzie will give them opportunities to do so, until he's seen enough (whether good or bad) to make up his mind on whether they are major leaguers or not. If they aren't, I'd expect you'd see him tell Kenny and a move will eventually be made. For those of you that don't expect to see Logan or Thornton in games we are winning, well be prepared to be mad cause Ozzie is going to use them. Sure they are more likely to appear in a total blowout than a close game, but they'll be used in close games and I think Ozzie and Kenny are hoping at least one of them pans out and be a guy that can be counted on a bit.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) Bobby still only hitting 96 per CBS He had one at 99, but in general his FB looked good and that hook that he got Guillen to ground to Paulie may have been the best hook he's thrown all year. After falling behind 2-0 to Shelton, Jenks threw almost all strikes (if not all strikes) and was unhittable. Looked really good. Garcia pitched a lot better (his velocity was back where it should be in the 93-94 range from time to time), Bmac was great, Crede looked fantastic again (in the field and with that HR), Konerko looked good today and Thome hit another BOMB. Pods looked god awful at the plate and in the field.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) Zumaya should be closing for the Tigers by the ASB No doubt, not quite the breaking stuff Jenks has, but he's got very similar stuff and upside.

QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Mackowiak's 3rd K of the game. He's just overmatched. So far I'm not much of a Mack fan at all.

QUOTE(kane0730 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) Mac's only thrown 19 pitches. Am I foolish for wanting him to ptich the 9th? Not really. I have no problem with him grabbing a 3 inning save. He's that type of guy and he's obviously pitching well.
-
Paulie can be about as short and quick on a FB as anyone in baseball. He showed that by hammering that Zumaya fast ball. Zumaya is a stud though, gonna be another good one for the Tigers. I wouldn't be shocked if he's closing for them by seasons end.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) Looks like SnB has been owned. Chewy chips ahoy are the s***, period. Blue Originals with milk >>> Chewies

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) Its hard, but I try and be a Pepsi guy if I can. Good call. Coors over the domestic beers (I dispise Bud, Miller is a close 2nd). I get the same brand of salad dressing (hate most of the salad dressings you get at the store cause they taste crappy or something). I prefer Bake Dorito's and Baked Lays (Same company) over other chips brands

It was a funny South Park, I loved the big wheel chase scene.

With the shape Thome is in, if he stays healthy I could seriously see him winning an MVP. He is freaking amazing. I like watching him hit more than anyone in baseball. I really hope he stays healthy.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 09:10 AM) I've seen a few of these football and hockey jerseys around. I'm not sure I'm feelin them. http://www.prosportsmemorabilia.com/Produc...6442&fc=bizrate Not at all. I prefer a classic jersey as opposed to this new age stuff (such as the hats that are weird colors; I understand pink for ladies but thats it).

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 07:45 AM) IIRC Sanders landed with a Japanese team. Anyone have a similar recollection? Ya, I think thats exactly what happened. I know he's out of the org though.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) He was up to 99 on the Comcast gun, and supposedly on the stadium gun also, a couple times today. He had only 1 fastball that fell below 97 that i saw. And he also was firing that slider up there at 91. Man, a 91 mph slider...you combine that with that 99 fastball, and nobody's going to be hitting htis guy. He hit 100 on the comcast gun once and Hawk mentioned he hit 100 on the stadium gun either once or twice. And as Addy said they also brought up how he was throwing in the 3 digit range in his last few pen sessions.
-
I'm surprised no one mentioned this, but while he gave up a HR and Crede had to make a couple great plays, Jenks was throwing gas. Was clocked as high as 100. It just looks like he's got a bit to go with his breaking ball. He's looking better though.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Ah, so I should just bum around the dugout? That's before the game, right? Ya, get there early cause thats the best time, imo. Dugout and over by the outfield when they do stretching and all that good stuff. I've never tried at the cell but thats where people usually sign at most stadiums.

White Sox Cocky to Open the Season By Mike Matha Soxtalk.com For the first time in close to 90 years, the White Sox are not only the defending champions, but they’re also the team to beat—and maybe rightfully so. Yet this brings along an honor that perhaps the White Sox aren’t yet ready to cherish. They’re the big boys on the block now, but to be a bully one has to be tough, determined and downright mean.MORE

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 9, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) So otherwise there's still a chance I can get to another of the guys and say a few words and stuff? As long as the starter isn't pitching, sure. I haven't gone for auto's in a long time, but usually anywhere from the dugout down the line on either teams side and your in a good spot.

Ya, pitchers do not sign on game day (the starting pitcher that is). They ahve to go through all there stretching and get in there long toss (to warm the arms) and usually they have a bit of a meeting before the game with the catcher and pitching coach as well where they discuss the approaches and all that good stuff. Plus the Sox are going to have Freddy warm up a little longer for this start to see if they can get him loosened up.
