Ryan Sweeney to play CF; Corwin Malone to start
Chisoxfn replied to SSH2005's topic in FutureSox Board
Who was laughed at when this exact comment was brought up during spring training. This is why I am actually knowledgeable when it comes to baseball and the minors -
Alex, you see that I updated the standings. How about them apples.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) Yeah looking at the Bham OF it wouldnt be hard for him to get up there with a good showing....Last year he would of been stuck in High A. How fast do you think the sox would promote him if he performs well. I'd assume relatively quick. But that really depends on how mature he is and how good his swing is. If they feel he succeeds despite being raw they may be best suited holding him back and taking things slowly. However if they see him dominating and they don't notice any bad habits or other things that need to be fixed before moving up a level (ie things that would cause him to get torn apart in AA) than I could see him moved relatively quickly. Right now I dont' think the org knows what they have in him since IIRC he's knew to the whole position player thing.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) Does anyone at soxtalk live by the Winston Salem team or anything or no? And if no is anyone planning on going to any games this year that would be able to tell us a little about him if they did. I talk to people and may be going again this year, but he'll be in Bham if things go well. Randar lives in the area of all 3 of the Sox minor league teams though so I'm sure he'll catch a few games.

What is he having surgery for? I know he had a pretty bad ear issue (kind of like Garcia had). Is it arm related or does it have to do with his ear issue?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) Good individual performances to note; Donny Lucy for WS went 2 for 3, with a BB, a 2B and a HR. Gomes in the #5 spot should be interesting to watch this season. Liotta gave up 1ER in 5IP. Only 2 K's with 2 BB's though, always been the question mark on him. Valido 2 for 4 in the #2 hole, with a double. Collaro homered. Salvador Sanchez went 2 for 3 with a BB, Francisco Hernandez 2 for 4 with a 2B. Rodriguez didn't give up an ER in 6IP. Liotta is a sinker baller so a lack of strikeouts shouldn't really be a concern. He gets ground balls and can get a strikeout with his slider when necessary.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) I think the 2 guys Im most interested in this year is Francisco Hernandez and Anderson Gomes.... besides a course Ryan Sweeny. But yeah a big year by Hernandez can really make him a legitimate prospect and he would almost be perfect to take over once Pieryznski's contract is up. And Gomes just because of how excited Phil Rogers seems about him and obviously the Sox to start him off in high A. Remember Gomes was given pretty big bucks. I think some people expected him to start potentially higher than where he is. That said he has a unique talent, but whether that talent translates into a quality major leaguer, who knows. Going to be interesting to see what he does though, supposedly the ball just jumps off his bat.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) The Brazilian Duo Update: Anderson Gomes: 2-4, 2 runs and double. Winston-Salem Box Paulo Orlando: 3-4, 1 runs, 2 RBIs and a double. Kanny Box Love how the Sox are expanding their talent search. Orlando is an intriguing player. Coming over from the Sox Dominican team where he played pretty well.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) Now you can go to kids day Plus he can help run his kid around the bases. By the way, most of our threads have some type of turn, but this is one of the more unique ones. I can't help but laugh. Just tell the GF when she throws the baby shower that the dad needs scout tickets to get out of the house

QUOTE(chisoxdavid @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) LOL at most of your replies, I just remembered that my girl hates OCB so I would have to take her to a better place. If your doing all right financially I say do it. I'm hoping to catch a game sometime in the next couple years in those scout seats. Why not treat yourself to something nice and enjoy the game in an entirely unique experience. I don't know if I'll be out to any of the games this year, but whenever I finally pass my CPA I'm planning on using a small portion of my CPA bonus on scout seats as my way of celebrating a big accomplishment.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Well the Knights are making Ledezma seem like the reincarnation of Randy Johnson. Ledezmas line so far. 4 innings 3 hits 1 run 9ks. Sweeney goes down again 0-3 3ks so far. He looks like he has happy feet up there, like he doesnt want to settle in. Led is a pretty good pitcher though. I realize he hasn't panned out like the Tigers expected but he has a good arm and has put up high k numbers in the minors (IIRC). One of those guys that has surprised me because I think he has the makings of a mid to front of the rotation guy.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) Yeah..of course i was toiling at work when I wrote that post. This tax season has been so ridiculously busy i'm questioning the whole public accounting thing. I've lost four months of my life this year. I will be looking to possibly go corporate this summer. Hopefully I can find a job that pays around $10,000. You been mainly doing personal or corporate returns? At least on the bright side just another 10 days or so and you'll get some much needed Rest and Relaxation. Found out I start September 11th and I'm already dreading busy season. I heard it was extra rough last year, but I'm with with most of my firms clients having already gone through SOX a few times now it could mean for a little lighter busy season (but as a first year I'm sure I'll get jacked). Odds are I'll be in South Dakota for 1-2 months of my first year Hell I think corporate is what being a CPA prepares you for. I'm sure you'll have tons of options, its just a matter of suffering through a few busy seasons before making the jump over.

Mash is a great show. I hated it when I was younger but now I'll watch the reruns from time to time.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) Nah, he sure wasn't any nicer when it came to dealing with Pauly's problems... I doubt he will be any nicer if he gets wind of the backstabbings while he was sick. Definately not, thats when the whackings will begin.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) Messing up usage of any of the following words is a bannable offense here in SLaM. its/it's their/there/they're our/are to/too (list is not exhaustive) Unless you own the joint

All I can say is college is definately worth it. A year before I graduated I got a job that will be paying me solid. The only problem is living is freaking ridiculous in California. If I were anywhere else I'd be set.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 07:26 AM) That makes sense, and I have no idea, but do Dairy Queen workers work for tips...? If they do I feel bad for them. I've never once tipped there.

Freaking video won't even load for me. Not on IE or Mozilla.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) is there any news on Hermy? i have enough faith in Kenny W that he'll get us a pitcher or two at some point. Maybe Logan will learn something from today's outing and come back and build some confidence in KC. last year was a once in a lifetime experience, leading wire to wire and winning all those one run games. the sooner we stop expecting things to unfold the way they did last year, the better off we'll all be. That won't be easy to do, but it's the only way we can proceed. Hermy isn't expected back till June and last I read Sox brass was pretty upset with him for not being a straight shooter when Ozzie and Kenny asked him about his back.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) The best thing for this team might be getting out of Chicago. There was alot of hype this series, and maybe it will be best for them to get to KC and pound the s*** out of them. I really hope thats what they need... Man I hope we beat KC, otherwise I'd hate to see this place

By the way, I just realized there are a few grammatical things that need to be fixed. It was edited once, but I'm totally exhausted so I'm sure some stuff was missed. I'm going to run through it tomorrow and clean it up.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Good stuff Jas. I started to make an attempt to follow the farm of the Sox last season, by doing a couple AAPs. My AAPs (Cunningham and Sanchez) are both starting the season down in Kannapolis. I'll definitely have my eye on this club throughout the season. Sanchez should be fun to watch develop. He has all the tools, but needs to make adjustments and obviously succeed in his first full season. Had some what of a dissapointing 2005 campaign but the talent is there.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) You still said it though, and will take a little hiatus as a result. Since the season's started and the activity's increased, the respect level's gone to the way side the past couple days. We're going to start cracking down on out-of-line posts and begin punishing guilty-parties, in hopes of ceasing an unbearable PHT during the course of the season. Once again, Soxtalk encourages a free discussion between its members, but does not allow personal attacks, threats, graphic sexual material, and nudity. Follow those few rules, and SoxTalk will continue to be the GREAT board that it has become. Well said Greasy. We need to ocassionally remind people of this and with the season starting back up we need to be careful that people still are aware of being respectful to other posters. This goes for all posters, when you make a post, before hitting the submit button, think quickly and make sure you aren't disrespecting another poster. Disagreeing and debating aren't a sign of disrespect and we encourage a free discussion that doesn't involve personal attacks, threats, or porn.

Hopefully anyone interested in the minors enjoys this. It took a lot of work for me to dig up info on some of these guys. Had to contact people for some of this stuff. I'm going to try and get up one for each team that way people can reference these pieces for info on players if they ever wonder. Did my best to find out what guys threw, etc. For the dominican guys it was insanely difficult and the people I was in contact with really had no idea either.
