Major Upgrades Will be Done in the next 24 HR's
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 2, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) So it went from 1-3 days a few posts ago to 2-4 days at the beginning of your latest post to 3-4 games by the end of your post, at this rate the site will be down for a week within the hour. I should note, I'm putting in worse case scenarios. Our goal is to get everything done right and if it originally takes a bit longer, so be it, as long as we get everything set up properly. However, the front page of the site may be down for as little as an hr (depending on how long it takes for our server upgarde to go on) and than after that we'll have a temporary forum set up which could remain for as many as 3 days. We hope it will be quicker.

Major Upgrades Will be Done in the next 24 HR's
QUOTE(Felix @ May 2, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) This won't effect the neighbor sites such as TalkBears, correct? Hopefully everything goes smoothly No, there will be about a 1-3 hr outage on all our network sites as we upgrade our mysql and php to more up to date versions, however once we are done with that, we will have a temporary Soxtalk site up where people can post for 2-4 days while we get the message board software updated and upgraded. It could be done faster, but worse case you all will have a spot to post game threads and all that type of stuff for 3-4 days.

Am I crazy?
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 2, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) I made a comment to a NL fan recently which didn't sit well, but its something I think may just be valid. My comment was that the NL doesn't have a team I believe can win the World Series. I feel that the top 6 teams in baseball when its all said and one are all in the AL: The White Sox, Indians, Red Sox, Yankees, Athletics and Angels. I said maybe the Cardinals or Mets should be in that group, but I doubt it. Am I crazy or not? Angels are mediocre and won't even make the playoffs. Indians don't have the pitching. Red Sox and White Sox are both heavy favorites in the AL and until the Yanks find some pitching they will remain the 4th team. The A's could make a run at it. In the NL I think the Mets and Cards are the only two teams that can compete.

Working on some secondary stuff
Going to be sprucing up the skin in preparation for a site upgrade that should hopefully happen by the end of the week. So the default skin will be up for the time being.

Crede, Long term deal?
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 1, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) I was abducted for a second. I don't even know what it was. Sure you didn't

Haeger
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 1, 2006 -> 07:23 AM) I dont see us bringing up a knuckle baller for middle relief. Its just not in the cards. If someone went down and we needed one start, I could almost see us giving Haeger that start as opposed to McCarthy (especially if its later in the year and McCarthy had just pitched). Haeger probably won't ever be a mainstay in our rotation, however, he provides very nice depth of the club and could very well be a player other teams target at the trade deadline (even though a Knuckleballer rarely is considered a top prospect, however, the way Haeger is throwing he needs to be considered just that in our system).

Sweeney was also the International League player of the week.

Crede, Long term deal?
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 1, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) I'd give him a similar deal to AJ, but more like 3 years and 18 mil, but nothing more at this point. I think a deal like that could happen after the season, IF he is serious about not letting his agent (Scotty Bor-ass) get in the way of a deal. I believe we do control his rights through the 2007 season. I'm thinking more along the lines of 3 yr 12 mill with some potential incentives.
-
Crede, Long term deal?
If Crede can stay healthy and hit relatively consistently, I think we'll be signing him to a long term deal. Josh Fields is not the answer at 3rd base, however, he may replace Pods in LF in time.

Team ERA vs Right-Handed Hitters
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 1, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Their pitching isnt really that good. They have played pretty crappy teams other than us, and we swept their asses. Their bullpen sucks, their closer is horrid, and their offense is like us in 2001-2004. I'm not saying the pitching will hold up. But I'd be just as worried about them than a team like the Indians who have a WORSE pitching staff. Bonderman is better than anyone the Tribe throws out (CC is never healthy so I don't really count him) and Verlander is developing far quicker than expected. Rogers is a very solid pitcher as is Maroth and Roberson isn't horrid. That pen is far from good, but its performed well thus far and they have one of the better managers in baseball. The offense is very good. The media may all hype the Indians, but as I've said from day one the Tigers got a pretty damn good ball club (so far they have been making me look good too). Do I think they'll be better than the Sox, NO, but thats if the Sox stay healthy. In the end I think the Tigers will eventually fall a bit because that pen will have its difficulties and the rotation may hit a rough couple weeks, but for all these people that say the Tribe are bar none the best team in our division (aside from us), well those people are wrong, imo.

Ozzie and the ASG
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) If the ASG were today, He'd take JD, Konerko, Thome, Buehrle, and Contreras All 5 of them could be there in July, but they have to continue to perform for him to justify taking them... Vazquez is the one I'm expecting to make the team as Ozzie sees more and more of what he can do. I betcha by the time things roll around, Cotts/Politte/Jenks (at least 2 of them will also be representing).

Team ERA vs Right-Handed Hitters
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) Somehow I don't see them finishing 2nd in the Central like many have predicted on this site. The Twins pitching has been horrid, but they do have hte arms. Right now I'm the most scared of the Tigers. There young pitching is developing faster than expected and the bullpen has held up thus far (especially Rodney). They may just have the best offense in the AL.

About AJ and the angels fans
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) my all time worst Sox game in Anaheim? Danny Wright's 19-0 loss. my best? Sitting behind homeplate and watching Bo Jackson launch a monster shot to dead center. (okay, watching the Sox win the pennant was probably better, but Bo was AWESOME). Ya, that was a horrid game in Anaheim. I do remember a game where we won like 16-2 (may have even been the same series as that 19-0 loss). My best memory, game 5 of the ALCS as the Sox win the AL penant. Worse memory was definately that 19-0 loss.

About AJ and the angels fans
QUOTE(hi8is @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) being that ive been rooting for the sox in the angels stadium since i was about 5 years old..... its nice to FINALLY be on the winning side of things... i remmeber my dad and i going to 3 or 4 game series and being happy to see just one win... thats how bad our sox used to do out here.... now its nice to be the winners, the champs... its nice to have bitter fans jelious and angry at you... its nice to have 70 year old discruntled old people throwing beer and peanuts at you because of your hat its nice to have talented players and hear every excuse in the book from their fans when we just straight up beat them! MUAHAHAHAHAH bring it on angels YES! Seriously trev. I think this has to be the first sweep in the regular season here I've ever witnessed. Its all that much sweeter that its coming after my first ever sweep that we witnessed (ALCS).

About AJ and the angels fans
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 1, 2006 -> 06:54 AM) My favorite was the dumb f*** who was running up and down the aisles with the "Sox Cheat' sign at Friday night's game. I have to admit, I'd be pretty frustrated if I was an Angel's fan too. Sure we always seem to beat them, but I wouldn't say we dominate. It always seems to be a close game and we win on a fluke play. Kind of how the Twins used to beat us from 2000-2004. That guy was a total tool. He was yelling Sox Cheat so loud and the ushers kept yelling at him and he just kept doing it and eventually he was escorted out of the park. It was totally ridiculous. We also cheated when we stole Bobby Jenks from them to close out 2 of the games.

today's "boycott"
They are closing down a lot of the downtown area out here or at least thats what htey were saying on the news yesterday. Bunch of BS if you ask me. I think we all know mexican american workers are important to our society, however, at the same time you have to draw the line somewhere since our tax payers are brunting the costs of a lot of illegals. I like the idea of a new amnesty program since in a few years time it should get the whole border situation a little more cleaned up. However, once the amnesty program goes into effect, we should tighten up the borders otherwise so many people will be coming over to take advantage of the program.

Jermaine Dye
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) People think he's a good defender because of his arm, I swear. The guy is absolutely horrendous out there. He may have an amazing arm, but the Sox tend to run on him all day long and its the right thing to do. He misses cut off man and rarely throws strikes. If he beats you on a perfect throw so be it, cause its so damn rare for him to really make a good throw. And the guy is horrid, he'll drop 3-4 routine balls a year and that doesn't speak of the balls he lets drop because he is one of the few worse defensive right fielders in the game. Garret Anderson is probably one of the worse defensive left fielders in the game too. The Angels need Erstad to regain his gold glove days in the OF ASAP cuase they got 2 AWFUL outfielders around him.
-
Jermaine Dye
If someone is implying Maggs was a poor defensive outfielder they are wrong. He wasn't a GGer, but he was a little above average out there, imo. Now if your referring to having Everett out there after Maggs got hurt, well in that case you'd be correct...Dye is lightyears better.
-
Jermaine Dye
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 05:45 AM) His defense isnt underrated to his team, or to us as fans. Name recognition usually goes hand in hand with selecting a Gold Glove, and guys like Guerrero have the sexy stat "outfield assists" to help them along. If there was a "game saving catch" stat or "diving catch" stat, I think Dye would be a regular gold glover. Ummmm, I don't think there is a person in baseball that would tell you Vladdy is a better defensive outfielder than Dye. Vladdy may be the worse right fielder in all of baseball (defensively). The guy is hideous out there and thats coming from someone who goes to 30 or so Angel games a year.
