  1. Not looking too hot as of now. Sox are hitting it hard though so I'm confident. Also looked like Buehrle may of smoothed things out after the 3rd homer.
  2. Yan is absolutely amazing. If any guy can steal 100 bases in the majors it would be him. Thats if he can get on base enough at the major league level. I've been excited about this kid for quite some time.
  3. Minor League Recaps By Mike Doyle April 20, 2003 SoxNet.net Behind solid performance by Jon Rauch (2-0), Mike Porzio (3-0), and OF Cliff Brumbaugh, the Knights took both games of a doubleheader against the Indianapolis Indians, 9-3 and 5-0. In game one, Jon Rauch pitched six solid innings, yielding two runs while striking out six Indian batters. Rauch has pitched well in all three of his starts, compiling a 2.00 ERA so far. Willie Harris continued his hitting tear, going 2 for 3 with a home run and three batted in. Currently, Willie is batting a robust .404 on the year. Second baseman Aaron Miles also contributed to the Knights offensive barrage, hitting two doubles and batting in two runs. Mario Valenzuela launched his third homerun of the year in the 8th as well. In game two of the doubleheader, LHP Mike Porzio continued his unexpected success, pitching six solid innings while striking out eight Indian batters. Porzio has won all three of his starts, and his ERA is under 2. Outfielder Cliff Brumbaugh was the main source of offensive firepower in game two for the Knights, going 3 for 3 with two home runs and three driven in. Willie Harris continued on his success from game one, going one for three with his first triple of the year. Jon Adkins (1-2) will take the mound for the Knights tonight in game three of the series. Indian starter Francisco Campos (0-2) will oppose Adkins. The Birmingham Barons continued their spiral downward, as Corwin Malone (1-1) was lit up yet again in a 6-1 loss to Huntsville. Corwin Malone seemed to have improved his control against the Huntsville Stars, only walking three in 4 1/3 innings, but was nailed for nine hits and four earned runs. The only highlight for the Barons pitching was Royce Ring, who struck out two in his one inning pitched. Ring’s ERA now stands at a miniscule 1.13. Once again, the Barons offense sputtered, collecting a mere five hits on the night. The only run for the Barons came in the 9th, when DH Darron Ingram hit his first homerun of the year. Hopefully things will get better tonight, when Barons starter Brian West (0-1) will oppose Derek Lee (2-0). Kris Honel (2-1) had a surprising sub-par outing, but Ryan Wing (3-0) and OF Daylan Holt salvaged a split of a doubleheader against Frederick. Kris Honel had his first bad outing of the year, going only four innings and giving up five earned runs. Honel only struck out two on the night. Kris McWhirter kept the Hogs close, pitching three strong innings out of the bullpen. The Hogs made a valiant comeback in the 9th, as Daylan Holt launched a massive three run, pinch-hit homerun. Unfortunately, the Hogs could not get another run, and they fell in the first game 5-4. Speedster Ruddy Yan went 1 for 4 for the Hogs, but picked up his 10th stolen base in 11 games. Yan is second in the Carolina league in stolen bases, and fourth in batting. Game two was a different story, as LHP Ryan Wing pitched six more spectacular innings to pick up the win. Wing gave up four hits and a walk in his six innings, striking out six. Wing actually raised his ERA in this his third start of the year, giving up his first earned run of the year. After the game, Wing was named the Carolina League’s pitcher of the week. From all the minor league writers here at SoxNet, a big congratulation goes out to Ryan Wing on his stellar performance so far. Wing did not need much offensive help, but he got six runs worth. Daylan Holt hit another three run homerun, raising his slugging percentage to an even 1.000 in Winston-Salem. Ruddy Yan picked up another stolen base, his 11th in 12 games. Frank Francisco (1-0) will go for the Hogs, opposing Frederick starter Ben Knapp (0-2). Kannapolis continued its hot streak, taking both games of a doubleheader against the Lakewood BlueClaws, 5-3 and 2-1. In game one, the Intimidators rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to get the win for starter Paulino Reynoso (2-0). Reynoso did not pitch great, but pitched well enough to salvage a win in his five innings of work. Josh Rupe continued his outstanding season as a closer, picking up his third save and keeping his ERA at zero. Outfielder Thomas Brice got the Intimidators on the board in the 2nd, with a triple that scored two runs. The Intimidators took the lead for good when Andy Gonzalez singled home a run, and first baseman Julio Reyes doubled home a run of his own. Anthony Webster led the Intimidator attack in game two, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored. Catcher Charles Lisk has appeared to come out of his slump, going 2 for 3 as well. The main story of game two though, was starter Brian Miller (2-1). Miller pitched five outstanding innings, only giving up one earned run on two hits and a walk. Rick Hummel, brother of Charlotte infielder Tim Hummel, pitched a scoreless 9th for his second save of the year. Kannapolis has the day off today. Note: Yesterday in the 4/18/03 minor league recap, I stated that Jon Rauch was 2-0, and going for his third win. At the time the article was put up, Rauch was only 1-0. I apologize for the error.
  4. We'll have something up on a whole lot of the prospects pretty quick. Were behind thanks to me being so damn busy with school cause I got a whole bunch of midterms and papers due this week.
  5. Baggs - gotta disagree with you on Harris. Since none of us have wacthed him play, we don't know if he's swinging for the fences. He could be hitting line drives and grounders, which is what JM has wanted. I also think Harris hasn't had that much time in the majors so nothing can really be decided. He needs to shorten his swing, hit for the liner/grounder and have a better eye. He does those things and he'll be in the majors a long time. I can't comment on if he's doing it in Charlotte, but he's hitting the ball hard to all parts of the field which is great.

    The Ring

Ring was pretty good. Basically the girl wanted everyone to know. Its been a while since I saw it, but I had it figured out or at least I thought I did after I watched it. One scary part was when they pan to the girl and all of a sudden she is like dead and the head falls back. That got me to jump. No Scary Movie has ever got to me, well one did but it was when I was like 7.
  7. Ya, hope everyone that celebrates Easter has a Happy Easter and if you don't, I hope you have a great day.
  8. Also, since when has Daubach earned the starting job? Its not like he's making the Sox want to play him, yet. I have nothing against Daubach and I think he'll be fine, just like I think Aaron will be, but its not like Daubs is forcing the Sox to bench Rowand.
  9. Did you play basketball for the Hoosiers or something?
  10. Ya, its been awesome so far. Surprised they let the Kipster throw that many pitches.

    Bulls

Ya, but from what I've read, Milliceck would be the first pick if it wasn't for James hype. In regards to Pippen he said that he would come for the exception as well as a position with the Bulls when he retires. I also think with 4.5 mill excemption the Bulls will be able to land a quality player.
  12. Chisoxfn

    Bulls

I don't think so. Everyone says Milllilek is a lock at #2 and that he may be better. I'd love getting Anthony but I really want the Bulls to sign Pippen with the midlevel and then take whoever is there with the draft and just let him develop slowly. I don't think we'll see too much activity other then a signing of a sf/sg that can play defense and then us drafting that same position. Were deep at pg, and down low. We'll probably keep Hoiberg and Brunson on IR as well as Blount or thats my guess. I'd look for a very similar roster.

    Org rank

Its funny, I still think we have a top 10 organization. I'd probably rank us somewhere around 10-12.
  14. Chisoxfn

    Bulls

Nope, I wouldn't trade Tyson. Plus this draft is three deep. If we stay at 7 I think we pick Wade. It will be James, Millicic or however you pronounce it and then Carmelo at 3.
  15. Major League and the Replacements for best comedies. Wait, put Sandlot way up there too for me, that movie was great.
  16. I've felt that the whole time. The West will beat up on eachother. I believe the Wild Card will either by the Red Sox or the Twins/Sox whoever loses the division. I think we win the division.
  17. Vince is a new moderator of the off topic board and I think he's going to do an awesome job. He's a great guy whose a diehard Sox fan and I think he'll do an awesome job. You Vince and so does everyone else here
  18. Well Myette looked to be throwing a lot harder then the gun reading, so I'm guessing the gun was off a bit. I also think Koch is working on not relying on a straight fastball. He had better movement today and left that one pitch up, but otherwise he was alright. I do agree though, him not throwing near as hard is a cause for concern. Still, I'll hold off my judgment cause I think he's gonna be damn good, but he hasn't shown me it lately. Hopefully he can get in a groove.
  19. Range is something that you can't really improve. You can to a certain extent, but Carlos is doing all he can to make up for it by RUNNING to balls hit into the corner, and by CHARGING basehits and trying to prevent guys from scoring from 2nd on a single. He seems to be very proficient at making sliding/diving catches also. He's made 2 or 3 very nice ones already this year, and has seemed to get them with regularity throughout his career with the Sox. He ended today with a 3-run HR and a great catch...hopefully he will carry that momentum into tomorrow's game. You can definately improve range, but you can't do it by getting faster, you can only do it by getting better jumps and recognizing where the ball is going better. Therefor, Carlos was terrible at that when he first came up and now he is really improving at it. I have given Carlos plenty of credit for improving defensively and players don't seem to want to run on him. He has worked hard and has taken great pride in his improving defense. Also, he looked solid at the plate again today. I am hard on Carlos only because I think he can be so damn good, either way I'm not really in favor of moving him. I'm happy with our entire team and I do believe Rowand can play but I've just been so dissapointed by his swing. He had some good hacks today though. Olivo had an awesome game today. I loved his hustle. His speed/hustlee caused a few things to happen today.
  20. Well if Manuel manages like he has the past week or so I'll be alright. He's been calling more hit and runs and overall he looks like he's doing a real good job managing the bullpen and the staff.
  21. He's very skinny. Frank was pretty quick in his younger days.
  22. Right now I don't want to trade anyone. I love this ballclub. We are such a deep team and are going to win it all. Also, Konerko looked a lot better today, going opposite field and getting better swings. He is still a few games away I think, but sometime next week you should see him get into a groove.
  23. I have yet to figure out why Shaffer is playing short. I always though Reyes future was at short, but they have been playing him at second and to me thats a mistake. I know some believe Reyes has to improve his defense, but for a minor league shortstop he wasn't all that bad, at least error wise. You can tell me if I'm wrong, but I'd think that Reyes has a heck of a lot more range than Shaffer.
  24. -Leadoff double by Milton Bradley after Josh fell behind. -He goes up 0-2 on the next hitter and throws 4 straight balls so runners on 1st and 2nd. So far he's looking just like he did in Detroit and thats not good cause he was falling behind everyone in Detroit and this kid is gonna get hammered if he's falling behind. I sure hope he starts showing me some stuff to prove me wrong. Also, like I say it takes more then a couple starts to judge a guy, especially since they first have to learn the speed at a new level, etc, plus a lot of times you also have to wait and see what happens after major leaguers make adjustments. -Ellis Burks strikes out on a low changeup. Stewart did a nice job setting Burks up. -Someone rips a deep shot into center but Rowand has room and makes the catch. Runners on the corners with two outs. Come on Josh, get Karim Garcia out. -Karim Garcia flies out to Carlos Lee. Nice job Josh. It showed that you don't panick after getting in a tough situation, me likey.
