QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) Goff is a volume passer, throwing more than 500 times a season. His stats are great but his overall physical tools dont wow me. Cook plays in a much worse offensive system on a defensively driven team. He's been my top QB since before last season, especially when people were slurping Hack for some reason. I still do not think either one is worth a top 15 pick. I disagree that MSU isnt a power house though. They have been historically and recently. MSU has multiple national titles, thats upper tier stuff. I agree on what you say above, but I do think when it comes to QB's a team will take Goff in the 1st round. Doesn't matter cause i like Cook better and can buy into your historical on MSU but it is relatively recent (grand scheme) that they have gotten back to an elite level. 1966 was last time they won a national championship and it really wasn't until recently that they re-emerged as potential contender. However, to your point, built on defense with a solid offense. Really they are built more like an NFL team then a college team. Cook has gotten better every year. He's getting better and better at reading defenses, improving his footwork, etc. On top of that he has the tools. You look at everything and I think thats a guy who I can project to continue to improve his game at the pro level because their isn't an elite QB today in the NFL who was even close to being the player they were in college. Rodgers is way better...Brady way better...Manning way better. They all took advantage of all the ability to practice, use film, not have to go to school and really hone their craft. Yes you need the tools...but it is the other stuff (along with the mental capacity / smarts) to be able to be one of the best in the league. I think Cook is kind of like Matt Ryan and to be frank, I'm okay with that. You think in retrospect, St. Louis and Miami don't regret taking the Longs over Matt Ryan? I can't think of many examples where a team who picked near the top of the draft and had a need at QB, that went in a different direction, had it work out in their favor. Yes, a lot of teams that take QB will end up having to do it again (due to bust) but going the other direction and ignoring QB when it is a problem seems odd.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) FWIW I should have pointed out that I'm talking about Kessler in the 2R. This team needs an impact player on defense, that's what I want them to get in the 1R. I will throwup if we use a top 2 or 3 pick on anything but QB. Anything other then that is a failure in my eyes. If we aren't taking QB, we need to move down.

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) That is why this FO and coaching staff is sitting soooooooooo pretty. The past regime was soooooooooo historically awful and incompetent that it makes Pace and Fox look like f***ing studs when they wake up every morning and take a s***. Unfortunately, most fans are only so patient and they'll start getting heat faster then any of us would expect (despite how awful the roster is).

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) None of those QB's should be taken in the first round, especially not ones who are in a pass-happy system. I haven't seen any of them approaching the level of a surefire first round pick. Cook is probably tops for me, mostly because he runs a s***ty offensive system very well. Would be shocked if Cook and Goff aren't top 10-15 picks. In fact, I'd be surprised if one of them isn't a #1 overall pick. This is a QB driven league and both of them have a lot of tools. Still a lot to prove but I think because they don't play for the typical powerhouses they get less credit. I also am a fan of Big 10 Qb's in pro-style offenses so I have that bias towards Cook. Goff is doing a lot with a pretty crappy team around him. Again, I really like Cook. He is used to the cold, he is used to a physical conference / play, he plays in a pro offense, has a quick release, and is supposed to be very smart. He also is a winner who has a ton of big game experience (so we've gotten to see the type of "poise" he has and how he handles pressure). All important attributes in a QB, imo. Of all positions in sports, it is QB where smarts become so damn important, in fact, they can overcome physical limitations. Rodgers is insane, but some of the other best are not amazing athletes (neither Manning / Brady / Brees would ever be on the list of biggest arms, fastest QB's, etc).

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) I like that they are cutting bait but I dont want to give them too much credit. Its not their guys they are cutting ties with. It is cutting ties with the mistakes of the old regime which is not that hard to do. I will have more respect when they identify guys that they drafted that aren't what they thought they might be. Even in a good draft you will have two or three that don't produce. The old regime would keep giving those players years and years of chances. Still...it is something the last regime struggled to do.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) Know who else is good under pressure(71% of his passes completed)? And PFF(Since you're using them) had ranked ahead of Jared Goff in their top 10 players returning to the Pac 12?....Cody Kessler. Eh, don't care, I don't like Kessler, not in the 1st round. I'd be okay if he was on the Bears this year cause at least you have an unknown with some talent but I like Connor Cook. He's my favorite of the prospects, although a lot can change during the year. I have little faith in USC QB's anyway. System they run is extremely QB friendly. Guy who is awesome is Rosen out of UCLA but moot point. Whose to say Cardale Jones doesn't make strides and move himself back up draft boards.

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) Has anyone heard any rumors about Forte to the Broncos? One of my coworkers here said his buddy just texted that he has been hearing that, but I haven't seen anything anywhere. If you ask me, the Broncos already have the talent at RB. It's their offensive line that sucks. I don't think it would really change anything for them. I don't know if it is true or not, but I don't think the Broncos could acquire Forte due to cap implications from a Forte trade.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) I'd like to hear some thoughts on Cody Kessler. Is the only reason he's not really talked about as a first round pick because he's "short"? Not interested. I am interested in Goff and Cook. I like Cook for the fact that he has been very good against blitzes. Of course that is based upon PFF so maybe he actually stinks against blitzes (since when Rodgers is good he's actually really bad by PFF metrics). I think to succeed in the NFL, you not only need the tools, but you need the smarts, and when I watch Cook, I see a guy with a lot of poise who seems to do an excellent job reading defenses. He also runs a pro-style offense and seems very comfortable in that set. I think Connor is going to be a really good QB in this league.

Bobby Valentine thinks PEDs are good for sports
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 07:29 AM) I was probably 11-12 years old during the 98 HR chase, and it absolutely got me into baseball. I was raised a Sox fan, but 11-12 is when I really started to understand the game better, and adored Sosa and being able to watch those games every night. Without it, I don't know if I would have the passion for baseball that I do now. It's obvious to say PED's are bad and it's certainly hard to endorse, but it's also hard to argue that the game wasn't more entertaining back then. And after all, that's all sports are. I completely agree with everything said here and this is coming from a fan of pitching.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) I keep hearing "experts" on the radio suggest the Bears should be competitive by the end of next year due to how the NFL is designed to help bad teams become good quickly. To me (and my pessimistic ways), sure seems like it will be a 3 year rebuild given the absolutely lack of building blocks on this team outside of Kyle Long and possibly Kevin White. Depends on if Jay stays or not. If Jay stays, I think you improve quicker (doesn't mean you are a superbowl contender...but can contend for a playoff team sooner), but if Jay is gone, I think you need at least 2 full off-seasons, if not 3 full-offseasons. This team has so little to show form its top picks over too long of a time.

You don't win by going big in free agency. First we need to hit on the draft and be efficient in free agency. The home run can help if you already have a really good team (or somehow a top QB hits the market unrestricted).

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) How can you say that this regime has sucked when they have been at it for half a year and inherited the least talented roster in the NFL? Sorry, I meant to say the team performance has sucked (i.e., won / loss). I am a huge fan of the current regime. I haven't heard about how great we have been practicing or any of that nonsense. It is clear that accountability exists at Halas Hall. That said, if special teams keeps doing what its doing, I expect to see some accountability their as well.

Big difference between the previous regime and the current regime. We suck terribly in both regime's (won / loss), but the current regime clearly is setting a tone that it is unacceptable and we will find new people until we right the ship.

Doing this for my wife, but like the fact that I can take us to verizon at any time if I find that more problems were with htc one one sprint vs. sprint itself. To take it to Verizon, you have to pay the rest of the lease though, right? Is their also a contract breakage or do you just have to pay off the lease (and thus just own the phone)?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) What the hell was their reason for that...? I heard Lebatard talking about it this morning. Some of it had to do with a dropped pick six and a fumble he had. Not sure how much that played into things, because even if you assumed he did both of those things, you still have 5 TD's and 2 turnovers, which has to be a positive value performance.

Let him practice for a few weeks and then plan on giving you half a season. I see no problem with that train of thought. Of course that is assuming you can move Jay.

I'll make my crazy prediction here...Bears trade Cutler to the Texans. Probably doesn't happen, but he'd be a significant upgrade for a QB starved team. Cutler's cap situation is no longer that bad. That said, not sure cap implications of this.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) As of 9/2 the Bears had all 7 of their picks, now they have 9. http://www.prosportstransactions.com/footb...uture/Bears.htm I say get a couple more. Willie Young gets a 5th or 6th. The corpse of McClellin maybe gets a conditional 6th, or a 7th. If you can somehow procure a 3rd rounder or better without dealing Long, McPhee or Alshon I'm all about that too. McClellin has been their best lb'er thus far in the season. It is his first year playing the position he should have been playing since he was drafted. Why should we draft him. He's young and could actually be a core starter going forward. I wouldn't even think about trading Shea for a 5th round pick (nor do I think anyone gives us a 5th round pick for him at this point). He's of most value to the Bears, who are desperate to have potential playmakers, and he has actually shown himself to be competent as a LB in a 3-4, although he still has growing to do, but I have confidence in our coaches to help him get better, but I'm not trading him until our coaches get the full year to work with him. I'm hoping we are signing him this off-season to a few year extension, because that will mean he's proven himself. Young will for sure be dealt. I have to imagine Forte is on the block. I still think Cowboys could come a knocking. Colts could get desperate too (GM and Coach are both on the hot-seat).

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) But Bulls and Hawks are not competing with another franchise for the fan. Those are also sports that sell out at around 20K seats so you don't need near the draw. Plus, to me the in-game fan experience at both are better then a baseball game. That might be because I've been spoiled and attended tons of baseball games where as I rarely go to a live NHL / NBA game (maybe once a year, if that), so when I do, it is a real treat and I get a lot more enjoyment. Of course MLB has been sliding down my list of favorite sports since I had a family. Games are just too long for me to follow as much as I do basketball / football (yes, football games are just as long, if not longer, but once a week is manageable). Right now if you asked me my favorite sports, I'd probably go NFL / NBA / MLB in that order. 10 years ago, it would have been MLB / NBA / NFL and 5 years ago MLB / NFL / NBA.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 05:29 PM) It's a 6th for Bostic according to Biggs. I'll take it. At the very least, all these 6th round picks should help our special teams. If I'm not mistaken, that now means we have all of our picks back, plus an extra 6th (as we had lost a pick from the Khari Lee trade). So I think we now have 8 picks. I presume we can get a 6th for Willie Young too.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) He's totally gonna be a good player for Belichick Good riddance. He was a bust. People complained when I blasted him as a rookie (too premature) but he never made any impact plays out of that big hit he had in the pre-season of his rookie year (where he got fined). He might end up playing elsewhere but he had shown zero football instincts and could never stay on the field due to injuries. Do we even get a pick for him or is this a conditional thing that we'll never end up getting?
