We'll also start doing a Soxtalk twitter so people can get updated Sox lineups and scores and any relevant news with ease!!!! Just another reason why Soxtalk is the f***ing best (and yes, I'm biased being the owner but who cares!!!).
-
Eh, we'll just do one for the time being so futuresox it is. Now can you set it up so there are multiple contributors to the futuresox one? I registered nad than followed the site. Chisoxfn is my username and send a text to my phone.
-
That is assuming Heads can teach me how to use Twitter.
-
www.twitter.com/futuresox We'll make sure to put out all the draft updates so everyone that follows the Sox has the opportunity to get all the info they need from the best minds on the Sox minor leagues...US!!!!!

A soxtalk twitter might be badass. Albeit I have zero idea how to use Twitter.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:49 PM) you may be right. If that's the case though, the sooner the better for Danks. He can't be any worse than what's out there now. Still an OF of Danks,Upton, and Quentin would look awfully nice in the near future . You might be right, but you know what, you got to look out for Danks future and right now I don't see anything wrong leaving him down in the minors.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) I think Mitchell's power could also be intriguing. He's absolutely ripped and bench pressed 335 pounds, and squatted 450 pounds before arriving on LSU's campus. If someone can correct his swing, he could be a special talent. If his swing can't be corrected then we might end up with Esix Snead. I'd be excited with a guy like Mitchell in our system. You can't help but get excited over his upside, even though there is definate bust potential. I think with as many picks as the club has there is nothing wrong with taking a more high upside, potential bust pick and Mitchell fits that bill and should be a guy that isn't a tough sign.
-
And while he strikes out a lot, he also walks a lot. So thats a good sign.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Agreed, and that means you don't cater your draft to not overlap him, etc. Plus toolsy outfielders are valuable. Hell, look at Carlos Gomez, Martinez, McClutchen. Guys that all have a s***ton of speed and a lot of raw tools. All are in the majors now, Gomez obviously having a year of seasoning, but they all had massive trade value (even look at Lastings Milledge). Bottom line there are far dumber picks you can make than toolsy outfielders because as long as they put up decent numbers in the minors they'll have awesome trade value and if they do put up big time numbers or develop you'll end up having a stud.

The Sox aren't trading for a Cfer unless its a stop gap guy and the only way they do that is if this team goes on a big run and it looks like a CFer puts them over the top. Otherwise you'll see them ride Pods and than eventually hand the show over to Jordan Danks who is said to be major league ready by Buddy Bell. That isn't to say he's going to come in and be a star right away but that he might be able to hold his own up here and I do think another month or two will benefit him, but the second the Sox fall out of contention or Pods falls apart, you can expect to see Jordan Danks join Gordon Beckham in Chicago as the Sox get ready for next season. They'll still try to sell themselves as contending and in this division you'll almost always be contending, but I think the Sox future is brighter in the next couple years, imo.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) Extremely risky kid from what I've heard. If he figures it out (and I mean REALLY figures it out) he's a super stud. But he can also be very, very bad. I gotta say he'd be a very talented football prospect. If I'm not mistaken didn't a team select him once before? Hopefully he'll follow the Granderson theme in talent (though if I remember Granderson had nice upside, but really didn't stick out too much in Thornton High. Looks like he made up for it) Though I must say.. I'm not a fan of Mitchell so IF he deos get selected, hopefully the sox see something. Twins drafted him out of high school.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) Shelby's not really a true prospect, is he? Seems like he's more of a back-up at best. He's got a very live bat but he hasn't really clicked this season. He could always move back to 2nd base though and become a hell of an asset, imo. I'd say he's got a shot to at least be a solid backup but he still has the offensive potential to be a very solid everydayer. He can't play a corner outfield position though and be a premium bat so his value enlies in being able to play CF, 2B or as a utility guy.

QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) don't know why... but every time I see Jared Mitchell play I think of Gary Matthews Jr. The swings are relatively similar.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) Why, with the success of Jordan Danks, and the semi-success of John Shelby would this organization still think that toolsy project OF is still a priority with our first pick? Maybe because they had success with Danks they would be well suited to find another. THey also have zero other outfield prospects for the most part and its a very important position (3 starters at the major league level) so it makes a lot of sense, imo.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) I want Ev Williams more than Mitchell or Trout. Trout seems to have a really low ceiling, and I just don't want to hear the Rowand comparisons. A friend of mine who works for the Cubs think they'll have a chance at Kyle Gibson. Gibson is falling and It is understandable. No one is going to get to see him pitch and prove that its just really a stress fracture. So because of it a team that takes a shot might luck out or they might be screwed. I won't kill the Sox if they pass on him cause I don't think he's an elite arm. I will be pretty f***ing pissed if we pass on Scheppers cause he has that special arm thats worth taking a chance on.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) To be honest, I'm more of a Mitchell fan than most on this board that I have read. I wouldn't be terribly upset with the pick. I think he fits nicely into the possibility of the CF leadoff role, almost in line with Allen, Flowers, Danks, Beckham, Retherford's timetable. I'm definately not opposed. I love tools and he's got em. Plus he was drafted originally by the Twins who usually know a thing or two. The question is will the Twins pass up on him? Probably cause I know they are looking more at pitching and I think they'll take Storen if he falls to them. Really sounds like he's going @10 to the Nats.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) What type of power does Mitchell have? Is he from the Owens school or can he hit the ball into the gap? He improved a ton this past season which is a good sign. But he's still very very raw. Good to solid power.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Mitchell is the type of toolsy hole-in-the-swing player that the previous scouting regime would have loved to take at the top of the draft. Multi-sport athlete with a hole in the swing? Check. Technically speaking, Lauman is all about the athletes as is Kenny so it fits more into the current regimes MO. I know they took Anderson and Fields in the past as well, but for the most part they stayed away from the big outfielders. I still think one of Lauman's best picks was the Chris Young selection and I hope he can find us another one of them (not becuase YOung became a star, but because he had awesome trade value for a latter round selection).
-
Considering how close this team is to a rebuilding mode, I hope they realize that it would be very very smart to spend money in this draft, especially when there are bound to be a good group of players available in the first 4-5 rounds and than plenty more guys that fall who could be good options.
-
I say all this about the Sox taking a prep outfielder potentially and than I read this: I know a lot of people don't like MItchell and I agree his K rate is flat out alarming but he does at least have a ton of tools. I like him a lot more than Brett Jackson of Cal. If you go the college OF route it comes down to two players Mitchell and Pollack. MItchell has far more tools, Pollack has good tools, polish and baseball skills. The Sox would have to pay Williams at least slot money so that might scare them off, but hopefully they can get comfortable with one of the prep outfielders.
-
They both suck. I think we'll see Pods play CF when Quentin comes back with BA moving to the bench but if Pods hits the DL or he starts to not perform we'll see Jordan Danks promoted.
-
Lauman hasn't been afraid of taking prep players and the Sox never have been opposed to it. I believe Lauman was behind the Honel selection, which was the last prep we took in the first round. I'd agree they tend to take college guys in the first round and if we go with a pitcher I expect a college guy but if they take the route of a hitter it will likely be a prep.
-
Bailey would be a great get. We'd have to go over slot money for him though but I have heard rumblings that we nab a catcher early in the draft so maybe its him. I also recall reading where Lauman indicated that the Sox could spend money if there was a really good player they liked on the board.
-
I assume if he rakes we'd see him go to short season, but he could just stay there as well. It wouldn't shock me either way as the young dominican guys can get brought up really slowly and he is still incredibly young, even if his age is wrong by a year or so. Oh and it is in just 6 games (3 hr's, 11 RBI's).
-
I don't know what we paid him, but if it is a few hundred K I hate it. We are having the draft and I want the Sox pouring every bit of resource into the draft and than into the July 2nd international signing period (try to find a guy or two).
