  1. QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) Madison Youginer is still out there... another high upside HS arm. Hopefully the Sox can nab him in the 5th He probably won't sign, without a well above slot offer. Given the Sox latest pick, I'm pretty sure it ain't in the budget.
  2. Amazing.
  3. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) Interesting. He topped out at 89 in the short MLB video. It didn't make sense for a 6'4 kid to not be able to throw even 90 consistently. Everyone says he maintains his velocity deep into games which is a big plus for a prep arm as well.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:51 AM) The couraging thing about Mitchell is that by his senior year his K/BB rate had gotten to almost one. The kid seems to be learning the strike zone. I believe he's a junior.
  5. Sam Dyson is still out there right?
  6. I don't know how you guys can really slam Holmberg. He throws 88-91 as a lefty, kind of like most major league lefties do. And he has a good feel as a prep. He should only advance further along if they sign him. I really want Thompson to sign, get him signed along with Mitchell and Phlegey and I can look past some of our potential overdrafts, etc.
  7. Big time power arm. Sounds like a guy they'll move to the back end of the pen but who knows.
  8. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) Has Diego been taken yet? NOpe, Max Stassi is still out there as well, IIRC. Dominguez off the board to the Giants.
  9. Callis flat out knows his s***. He's just running off facts without a sheet in front of him.
  10. Draft starting back up. I'm going to throw out the name Sam Dyson. Would love to get Dysons arm in the Sox system.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) Basically sounds like Buehrle. Fastball, changeup, curve. Lefty, smart PITCHER not thrower. I'm sure we could have gotten him later though. Don't be so sure. He was widely considered one of the better preps in the country. Went right around where he was projected or at least within 20 or so picks. I don't think a guy at this point who would go within a round of when you got him would be considered a reach, imo.
  12. #51 on BA's list of top 100 high schoolers earlier in the season. Not sure where he ranks currently. In fact, went right where he was slated, lots of mocks had him going in the 2nd round, Sickels on 5/15 had him going 51 to the Angels. Below are various reports that I found on the web. Sounds interesting. Like that he has good movement and he at least maintains his velocity.
  13. You just get the very next pick in the draft BearSox, so we'd get 64 or whatever it would be.
  14. Prep lefty, 6-4, 205. Not great velocity currently, but he's got 3 good pitches already and a very good feel for pitching. Looks to have a projectable body so he might be able to add velocity. Sox are clearly sticking to there MO though, in the sense that they aren't breaking the bank on anyone.
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) Gage, do a writeup on pick 71 Can't, watching the laker game with the women while also covering the draft.
  16. Sox coming up. Twins on the clock right now.
  17. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 06:36 PM) how strong is hte commitment to UCLA? what are the odds we don't sign this kid? Who knows. UCLA usually keeps there guys for the most part, that said, he wasn't slated to go necessarily this early, partly because of his committ and the fact that he still has a lot to learn, but his tools grade out well. My guess is the Sox have talked to him and know he wants to play. They are usually very good at feeling out these kind of guys. I also think this makes it more likely we see them grab a tougher sign eventually.
  18. Interesting, Stock is a darn talented guy but most had him pegged as a pitcher. Going to use him as the catcher.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Anyone have a list of all the 2nd round picks so far? I hate this tracker. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/2009xrnd.php?rnd=2
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Wrong guy or so I'd assume, since Thompson is black.
  21. Bahaha, is Jason Bere really the best the Tribe could get?
  22. Michael Thompson is on the radio a lot around here and they'd have baseball people ocassionally talk about his kid and everyone gushed about him. I think this is a great pick. Won't be an easy sign, depends on how badly he wants to play in the pro's. His family has money.
  23. Trace Thompson, local kid out of Rancho Santa Margarita. He's going to UCLA. I'll try to interview him. Michael Thompsons kid. He's supposed to have really good tools. MLB.com calls him the most improved player. Multi sport guy in High school, just focused on baseball his senior season. Can't complain here, not at all. Athletism and all. Power potential.
  24. I'd guess a pitcher, but who knows.
  25. Funny to see Rolan Hemond announcing for the Dbacks, especially after seeing him at Soxfest all the time. White Sox are now on the clock.
