  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 28, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) They just took Jason Castro last year in the first round, so if Flowers was included I'd like to expand the deal to get Castro back. He'd probably be a fit since it was rumored nearing draft day last year that the Sox had scouted him pretty heavily. But anyway, I don't think they'd be after Flowers as they obviously love Castro considering who they passed on to take him. My only criteria in an Oswalt deal is no Beckham, no Allen, and preferably no Danks since I think he's a key in extending Jon. I only mentioned FLowers name because he's the next in the group of prospects and I wanted to point out that he would fully be available. I'd also trade Brandon Allen if thats what it took. I like Allen more than most, but he's expendable as I just dont' put a premium value on 1st base prospets (although Viciedo might very well be that). That said, I'm fine if we don't make a deal either, but I do want the Sox to add an impact arm. There's guys I'd prefer over Oswalt, especially since Oswalt won't be in his prime as long as some of the other guys.
  2. Oswalt still has good stuff. If you could get him for a package built around Poreda, one of Hudson/Carter, Josh Fields, and anyone not named Danks/Beckham/Viciedo. The question is, would that be enough? I don't know. And yes that means I'd be willing to part with Tyler Flowers in that package.
  3. QUOTE (tommy @ May 28, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) I think Slayers debut depends solely on Josh Fields' performance, with that said I voted before ASB. Even if Gordon gets called up this year and plays the reminder of the season and postseason at 3B I agree with Heads that Gordon will be playing 2B in 2010 with Tank or FA being our 3B. Slayers debut depends on how Pods does at the top of the order. If Pods does well than theoretically Slayer could actually come up at two different spots, 2B or 3B (If Pods falls off, than Getz might have to stay because he's one of the few guys that might be capable of leading off). I say that because Getz, as much as I like him, isn't excatly lighting the world on fire so if Fields hits, the Sox will still bring Beck's up shortly it just might be in Getz place. And if they both hit, well its a good problem to have but Beckham is king to both of them.
  4. I would take Flowers, Gilmore, and Rodriguez (I won't even mention Lilly) over Chris Young/Javy Vazquez. However, I still like Young because he can play stellar defense and hit for power. However, he won't hit for a high average so his value is in the sense that he plays a premium defensive position with power. I also think a change of scenery might help him, although I clearly was a bit off in him. That said, I was touting him up before he ever was a prospect so that should be worth something because he clearly turned into a top 20 prospect in all of baseball at one point in time. Oh and I was also fine with the Javy trade although I always said I'd have preferred to move Brian Anderson (but the Dbacks preferred Young).
  5. Lebron will stay in Cleveland. People can blab about large market all you want, but Lebron is the face of the NBA already and moving to a large market won't really have that huge of an impact, imo. At least not for Lebron, for the NBA sure. Plus, Cleveland is going to get a Chinese minority owner and they will market him a s***load over in China which WILL be a big boom for Lebron.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 28, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Agreed on all these points. King of the Hill is such an underrated show IMO Ya, King of the Hill was stellar. I'm sad its gone.
  7. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 28, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) Guys, and gals... I've said this player before as a possible guy the Sox could use... 1B Brandon Belt - Texas Currently leading the team with a .342 BA, 8 HRs and 37 RBIs. He was a good LHP coming out of high school but made the switch to the infield when his velocity dipped. Very sweet swing from the left side, closed stance. Here's a writeup about him from today's Austin American-Statesman: http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sp...528texbase.html If someone will allow I can write a draft profile on him, I would be happy to do so and any other Longhorn player... That would be awesome oilcan. Go for it
  8. 1 for 3 with a double in his debut thus far.
  9. I'm going to work on getting all of the draft stuff archived.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 27, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) I’m really starting to get on this kid’s bandwagon. His arm is just outstanding, and power lefties are hard to come by. If KW continues to show Poreda, Brothers is a perfectly logical replacement. It's looking very unlikely that Brothers will be there when the Sox pick. He's pretty much cemented himself into the top 20.
  11. Nice job Paulie. Now lets find a way to get him in. AJ getting walked. Hopefully BA can make the Angels pay.
  12. Another K for Gavin to end the inning too. Beautiful Gavin!
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Viciedo seems destined to be an OF IMO. Maybe, but he's improved a lot defensively so I think the Sox are planning on keeping him there for the time being. Now if Beckham ultimately ends up at 3B, than Viciedo would obviously slide. Either way I expect Viciedo and Beckham in Chicago by seasons end. Of course thats because I think Viciedo will be putting up pretty monster numbers for the next month or so in AA and than get promoted to AAA.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) Word. Soxtalk has incredible people throughout the minor league system. By far and away the best on the web for the White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) I really don't understand the need to "promote" Beckham to Charlotte unless they want to throw Charlotte's owners a bone. They can't be too happy with the White Sox right now. The Sox are moving Beckham to 3rd, at least for the time being, and they can't do that in AA because they'd be blocking Viciedo. Now, they could have opted to move Viciedo up to AAA and let him play with Contreras while keeping Beck's in AA, but I think they also feel Beck's will be promoted soon anyway and Viciedo is finally getting rolling in AA so no reason to move him up too soon.
  16. I would do it. I don't know if Oakland does though.
  17. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) which makes him a great piece for any trade package we may offer for that missing top of the rotation right hander If I were making a deal with the Sox, I'd try to get Fields cause his value is low and he has upside and maybe a change of scenery works out. Its why I hope the Sox can find a way to move Fields for a similar player or of course I'd love it if Fields started to hit.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Probably, but that's not what I'd do. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think Pods is going to keep up his current pace, which isn't spectacular anyway. Either way, I think you and Jas are right about Anderson and Ramirez, they should stick where they are. I also don't like to say it, but now that ramirez is hitting his defense is moving to the next level. He just looks quick and rangy out at short and wow has he been showing off quite the cannon of an arm.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) That's also a good point. I kind of like Jas's idea - Fields in LF while TCQ heals, Beckham at 3B, Anderson and Ramirez stay in CF and Short. Keep Wise at bay. If Fields is traded before Quentin is healthy, Kroeger for LF. That is all assuming that Fields hits. That said, its more likely that we'd either see BA put on the bench with Pods playing CF and Fields in LF or BA in CF with Pods in LF. Pods pretty much needs to be in the lineup every day with the way he's been producing at the top of the order (he really has been good there). I'm not saying what Pods is doing will last, but they need him. So I guess the question is, Fields in LF or BA in CF because only one of those can happen.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Oh yeah, hadn't thought of that - Fields to LF if it looks like he's putting it together. Not a bad idea. So here is a question... would you rather have Fields or Kroeger in LF to hold CQ's spot? Also, I'm guessing this is the first domino in front of some other minor league moves. Fields. As much as I hate him, he does have major league tools.
  21. Like it or not, Charlotte is a Sox affiliate and they need to find a way to turn it into a better environment. Hopefully Beck's is just the first of guys to go there who has a better history of winning and more talent. I don't expect him to be in Charlotte for long and my guess is by early June Beckham is playing in Chicago. They'll have him see some more breaking pitches and than bam, he'll be at the cell.
  22. Ramirez is our SS. He's really starting to get his s*** together too. Fields will probably be trade bait, but if he hits, he could also stick in LF while the Sox figure out what to do with Quentin.
  23. JPN beats me to it, so credit goes to him.
