  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 06:53 AM) People have short attention spans. Come June when the Dems have a nominee, given a few weeks to cool down over the decision, the middle and left of the party will all fall in line behind the candidate in question. But, and I think this is among the key reasons why the Dems will pick Obama... the independents and moderates consistently favor Obama over Clinton, polls have shown. That group will have some defections either way, but particularly so among Obama supporters. I bet you dollars to donuts that this is changing before our eyes.
  2. Let's just go ahead and all get chip implants and go on the road to hell. At least we'd all only get one vote. (Sarcasm). (BTW, I would NEVER get that, I'll die first. Not joking. But the technology exists now).
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 08:14 AM) So we scored one run by walking it in. My point was that you need some sort of balance. Having a team with a .450 OBP but a .100 AVG will probably result in a pretty crappy offense since you'll be completely station-to-station. After last year, I don't believe in the "the average will come up, it HAS to" line. I always thought the Sox hit better as the temprature rises. But, I have to agree with you, after last year, I don't buy that noise anymore.
  4. So Barack Obama was at my alma mater this weekend. And, it sounds like there were a bunch of "racially motivated" fights last week at my old high school, after it was announced that Obama would be in town. Are the two related? To be fair, even almost 20 years ago (holy s*** I'm old), there were "racially motivated" fights damn near every year at my high school in the early spring. Why, I don't know, but it was always bad this time of year at my high school. But this year, they started up 2-3 weeks earlier then normal. I'm glad I don't live there anymore.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Limbaugh gets caught seemingly wanting riots in Denver during the DNC. It's called sarcasm.
  6. QUOTE (Soxy @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 09:33 AM) Aka Soxtalk's shortest thread--ever. That's pretty funny.
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 12:25 AM) We lead the league in home runs, that plus our walks is why the offense has scored runs. The team is still not hitting. Eventually people will just challenge our hitters because they will rather have them hit solo home runs instead of walking people. The tigers have started hitting and now are only 3 behind us. So much for their 0 and whatever start. Our crappy 500 ball over the last week mitigated that. That and the Rangers are pretty much a AA team right now. Gawd, they are AWFUL, save Michael Young - and even he isn't doing all that well.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) I've never really understood why the midwest likes the Clinton's much either. Most of their core industries went downhill during his time in office, such as steel and automotive. That was Newt Gingerich's fault, not Billy C's.
  9. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) I'm not sure about figures, but I am confident that, whatever the precise final tally, in the end, one way or another, by one point or by ten, it will turn out that, no matter what the pollsters said before, by virtue of extensive campaigning, the Dems will take this one. Yessiree, Bob. I bet you're right - way to go out on a limb...
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) The Dems have to be kicking themselves for ever giving the GOP that idea during the Michigan primaries. Uh huh. Then, though, it was ok.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) Well, here's the big question that I don't think any of us can answer...which effect will win out...the fact that there's no Dem nominee yet facing up against McCain, or the fact that when November runs around the Democrats are going to have campaigned in like 47-48 states fairly heavily and turned out and registered millions of new voters? It's a good point, but I have a feeling that all the negativity will work against them.
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 08:29 AM) Bill Clinton: Obama "Played The Race Card On Me" “I think that they played the race card on me. We now know, from memos from the campaign that they planned to do it along.” Can he back up that statement about the memos? Or is this another Sniper Fire story? Oh, so is this what people were going to "find out" on the way to the polls today? This is bunk, and priceless, at the same time. Keep on fighting, Clintons... it helps the Democrats sink.
  13. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) I haven't been much more than a casual observer in the past week or so but I haven't noticed this line of thought in the media at all. It was my observation, not the medias. That might be why the polls have dramatically tightened post-debate gate. We'll see how it plays out. Honestly, I wish Obama would win PA and get this over with.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) But here's the other part of it. Obama also went after the media for being so stupid and vacuous. So, instead of reforming, the Media members, the gang of 500 overlords who are all wise and all knowing representatives of the things that All Americans truly believe in, start trying to focus on the fact that Obama is complaining, "oh he's whining, such a girly man", to defend themselves against having to actually work, learn things, or any of the like. Notice what I didn't say. I didn't say that I agree with the whining, but he has certainly come across that way. For some reason, Hillary crying is better then Obama whining (even though I think the whole thing on both sides is junk). However, the reactions are what they are, and it appears that the race is tightening again.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 20, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) How is this sort of post OK with the new 'buster rules? Ok, I'll add a little substance to my observation. Late in the week, he really came across as someone who was crying about his "tough treatment" and his comebacks of Hillary liked getting in the digs (paraphrase but it was exactly the point). Any time a politician plays "victim", they're screwed, and Obama definitely came across as crying and whining about the debate. Now, the polls show it.
  16. You saw George Steffy try and hand Clinton the nomination the other night during that debate. Guess what, it's finally working. Obama is coming across like a little whipped puppy dog.
  17. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) I think Floyd would walk me, if we faced each other. I've hit pitchers who throw as hard as him before, and not all that long ago. It is just a figure of speech, however. Now wait, we've seen you play softball. You couldn't even hit the damn mush ball, let alone a good baseball pitcher.
  18. suck, suck, suckity, suck, suck, suck. There. That feels better. Oh wait, this is supposed to be in the negative catch all thread, huh? BUT WE'RE IN FIRST PLACE!!###!#!#!@#$ LOLZ!@$@#%
  19. Well, go Nashville, for some obvious reasons, and some not so obvious. At least some acquaintances of mine are seeing some ice time this series.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) I understand your point. What I am saying is that, to me, there is a difference between holding a secret meeting about energy policy by Dick Chaney and seeking an endorsement by a Chicago insider. And I generally agree with the point you're making as well but the dilution of those points are dependant on what side you're on.
